  • This is great, but I personally feel something is missing. Oh well. I definitely do not regret listening.

  • @atomicfriendo Everyone has there own oppinon. But if not for the music Anberlin is great because they are singing about the truth

  • this song makes me so sad, but i love it =]. Anberlin Forever!

  • dont you mean, Anberlin is amazing. Fin

  • The 2 people who disliked this dont know amazing music this song makes me happy and so sad

  • @Malicous45 make that 3...anberlin sucks :)-~

  • Anberlin deserves better than 240p quality

  • 6:44

  • @atomicfriendo - It seems to me that you don't know what quality music is! :)-~

  • @atomicfriendo keep on trollin

  • This song really relates to me...sucks that i don't have the full version on my iPod though......this is one of my 2 most favorite songs by them.

  • @kibashlee13 I think this song relates to all "believers".

  • This song really speaks to me.

    I love you Anberlin, sincerely

  • Are we all to you ..... laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I've listened to this atleast 1000 times. Like legit.

  • This song, gives me epic goosebumps.

Anberlin aren't very well known, but they have a beautiful way of addressing situations, life, and all the rest, and making it into art. Into something we can all relate to. I'm not religious, but this one of my favourite songs by them.

No matter who you are, what you believe, this song is still beautiful. Fact. =D

  • thank you so much for download link :D

  • I was listening to this while reading the last chapter of Fullmetal Alchemist. I ended up almost crying. Mostly because of this song. Kinda reminds me of a funeral march. Or someone who just found out that someone died, and is crying in the rain.

  • Cities is my favourite album from them. It addresses so many concepts, themes, and issues that I think the average person deals with in a very mature, serious manner without losing sight of the music. Depression, relationships, faith (or lack-there-of), isolation. It touches on a lot of the negativity in everyday life in such a way that it feels almost hopefully bleak. Reminds me of Radiohead (which they're a fan of, BTW)

  • 06:43 - 08:21 - the greatest verse that man has ever produced

  • What the hell is thus

  • @TheMferg its called music

  • great song

  • @gt3beast Yeah, I remember there was some sort of huge debate to do with religion and the related connotations this song has. Can't remember exactly what as it was ages ago and there are so many comments on this video it'll take ages to look back through and find it! But for me, regardless of your religious position it's an amazing song and that's all tere is to it! :)

  • Beautiful song

  • I really want to make love while playing this song...its on my bucket list....

  • @gibsonguitarist1250 I think I'd lose the power right there. That If I didn't start crying first

  • this album saved my life. literally... if this album hadn't been there to get me through life at that time, idk what could've happened. Thank God.

  • They played this for an encore when i saw em

  • Anberlin is amazing. It doesn't matter how popular they r. I've been following them forever; and living in Florida, I always know they'll come back to play a kick ass show in Orlando. :)

  • Personally I think its good for the fans that they aren't more popular, BECAUSE if they were than too many people would listen to them and there sound wouldn't be as special as it is because every one would enjoy it. I only recently heard this song and I'm in-love with it already.

  • @japwnnab so basically what you're saying.... is you are a hipster

  • Love this song

  • the best song ever written

  • Thanks!!!

  • This song gives me goosebumps! It's soo amazing.

  • Anberlin is amazing.

    The end.

  • @Shelby3692

    More like:

    "Anberlin is amazing.

    El fin"

    hahaha

  • @Shelby3692 one of the best songs and bands ever

  • @TEEHEE4334

    Agreed ! ♥

  • One word : Dualtality

  • i wish anberlin was much more poular, too many people are missing out

  • They only played part of it at the concert in Anaheim... I guess Stephen can't sing like this anymore )'=

  • @denimchick00 Trust me, I heard them play live in Sydney and he can do it. He normally doesn't sing the last part because of the personal references to his life.

  • choir sounds awsome with hard rock

  • fin and Miserable Visu are by far the most epic songs by Anberlin in my opinion. and my favorites! :D

  • this is my most fave song by Anberlin!!! :D

  • Just learned it on guitar im so happy, gonna play for everyone

  • @SNOWlVIAN if you would send me the music i would be your best friend :) :)

  • Hands down the best song by Anberlin!

  • This song gives me faith that everything gets better, you just have to brave it through. This song makes me believe in myself.

  • so where exactly did you hear my friend at the end?

  • @boonitae that fart part was random dude lmao

  • Great live, just wished they had played the damn full version.

  • 1 HATERRRRRRR

  • @boonitae

Sometimes it's accidental :\ I accidentally put thumbs down on a video.

  • 1 person clicked on this link just to dislike&argue ... and i just farted.. and it smells rotten. anyways people like this is the cause of 2012.

  • thank you so much for posting the link to download!!!!

  • the way he sings tht part at 7:37 is about when the tears started.. i cant imagine all he's gone through with God to write something like this.

  • nah it depends on how you precieve it.

  • Dislike Bar = Justin Bieber's Dick

  • @ThermuL And ur sure he got one?

  • @OppiToR No.

  • i loveee this song it gets me relaxed but makes me pumped at my football games

  • can't get enough of this song.

  • im not religious at all but i love this song

  • @zSnipebot This song is about the struggle of losing and finding religion...In my opinion it is great and meaningful to people religious and not, because it adresses the parts in Stephan's life where he had lost faith(he later went on to find it as you probably know) I am also not religious but find it to be an amazing song

  • beautiful song ♥

  • Wow. I haven't heard this song in two years and still remember every single chord, every word (not to mention my sing along timing is dead on). Just goes to show how powerful this song is.

  • aren't we all to you just lost causes? such a hard question--amazing song

  • I don't understand how people can like this beautiful song and then turn around and be ugly to each other in the comments below...shameful really

  • 0:00 - 8:54 Best part.

But in all seriousness, I really feel completely passionate when I listen to this song. It stirs some very strong emotions in me. It's compelling and driving and everything beautiful in such a tragic sense.

I almost like the religious side of this, I think it shows just how far gone the idea has strayed from the original plan. If there ever really was one. I'm happily agnostic, but think on these theories a lot.

All in all, a very well written and performed song.

  • This is my new favorite song.

  • I was walking home one night and I was feeling really challenged. And then this song came on. I was so tired and frustrated but then I just raised it to maximum volume and listened to it closing my eyes. I just felt it give more reason to fight. more reason to live. Thank you Anberlin. You're changing lives. You changed mine.

  • Masterful building of tension in this song. The way they slowly build the tempo and urgency and the vocals, only to have it come back down. One of the most impressive songs I have ever heard and I just can't get enough of it. It's like a resisting of the anger, the giving in and then the regret after the rage. Denial of the anger, submitting to it and then the calm after the release.

  • @ejflesher Couldn't have put it better myself. It definitely gives me chills every time I hear it. So great :)

  • I heard this song God knows how many times.

But when I actually LISTENED to it, the lyrics, the instruments, all of it, and put it all together....... wow

  • If some little faggot ruins the zero dislikes on this video, i swear i'm going to dive into a thorn bush naked out of extreme fury.

  • @MrKittyCat22 Get to diving faggot.

  • @KRAZYKENNY479 DOUCHEBAG!!!

  • 6:46 awesome part to the end also 2:55 but 6:46 most meaning of whole song

  • amazing song, amazing band, nuff said

  • 2:55

  • I feel the chills traveling through my spine and the adrenaline rushing through my veins. One of Anberlin's best and most powerful songs. No doubt.

  • definatly the an awsome band kinda like Breaking Benjamin got alot of awsome songs

  • 2:55. Holy shit.

  • Let songs be interpreted by whomever is listening to them. Don't let others tell you how because thats what ruins a song for someone.

Anberlin, you're the greatest band I've ever listened to. Keep it up.

  • This song gives me chills! It's so complicated, yet simple, a person talking to his concience almost. If that makes any sence. LOL I probable spelled sence wrong. :)

  • this song is amazing, makes me smile cuz of how good it is

  • Everyone needs to quit debating the meaning of this amazing song. I could give a fuck what anyone thinks is the meaning of the song. Regardless of it's interperated meaning or anyone's religious view, it's a really great song with great and original lyrics and great music composition. Anberlin writes some of the best lyrics I have ever read. Great band. Great song. Enough said. Quit debating and arguing like a bunch of goddamn fags.

  • @chadsdabombizzle if people want to debate the meaning you should let them without getting too upset. you after all chose to read the discussion and reply. so you must have been drawn to it somehow. and i don't think it was necessary to use all the language. but thats okay. you like the song, thats what everyone on here has in common. ignore what you want, but don't choose to defy a discussion about the meaning, if people want to know, they want to know!! :))

  • Religion and spirituality are all matters of perspective and life experience. Some people may have tougher times in life, and therefore turn from religion, seeing their "god" as having betrayed them. others may grasp religion as their last hope, praying that their "god" will help them. others turn to religions to explain what they do not understand, such as the true reason for the existance of life and such. all in all, its a matter of perspective.

  • Actually organised Religion is more or less a means of control, pretending to be the voice of a 'God'. The fear and hope of people will enslave themselves to this 'god'. Religion is really a dastardly and ingenious idea that killed alot of other ideas - An idea is a greater monument than a cathedral

  • did they steal insomniums lyrics? cuz this is fucking orgasmic

  • Amazing.

'I am the patron saint of lost causes'

'are we all to you lost causes?'

'this is not heaven, it's hell, my friend'

    Powerful.

  • Very powerful song!

  • no its treu what ejflesher says. we are so bussy whit are selfs that we dont see whats around use and that also includes me,its strains but treu it feels so familjer whit me but i cant place it

  • This band needs more recognition. Period.

  • I agree.

  • @Partylikeaturtle No shit, "Never Take Friendship Personal" is one the best albums I've ever heard, it drives me insane I don't hear them on the radio.

  • @Partylikeaturtle yea they do theyre such a amazing band

  • Straight from Stephen's mouth

  • "Fin is a series of four stories, that all tie together in the line patron saint of lost causes. The first story is a personal memoir about my life as a child and the pull on my soul even then. I deliberated even at eight years old, that it would be better that God and the devil would just both leave me alone.

  • The second story is about a couple from my early teen years church who cried for a miracle. It was a promised miracle, and it never came about. That leaves an impression. The third is about a mentor that used the guise of 'missions work' to leave his family in shambles and eventually decay. That plays with your salvation, when one experiences it.

  • [The fourth story is about] Billy, a traveling ' healer' who crippled my life and growth right in front of me. All these things and many, many others made me lose my salvation. But later in life I realized I needed to stop looking at Christians to see Christ. I wrestled with God, and he won."

  • This song has a bunch of smaller stories intermingled into one. Ultimately it's about the fact that no one would be "lost" if we paid attention to those around us. We can't save the world but we can save those we deal with in our daily lives. You can save your neighbors life, you can save friends life and we can save a stranger at the grocery stores life. If we just pay attention and cared. So much separation between souls in our world.

  • I fucking love you.

  • I think you are wrong in the meaning of this song. I think the song is written to God, asking if if we are lost causes. The story told in the story was like a simily to what he was asking God.

  • lol so many ppl arguing... stfu and enjoy the song

  • What a great song!! GOD BLESS THEM<< TO THE FULLEST

  • It's a shame this video's sparked a massive argument... believe what you wanna believe & let other people do the same... but that's irrelevant really. I'm gonna stick with saying regardless of relgious belief this is an absolutely amazing song & I love Anberlin!

  • @LozG4Rule theres an argument?

  • Anberlin is one of my FAV<<< bands out there right now!!!

    God Bless These Guys!!! :)

  • Hey everyone fighting about beliefs on this vid, stop.

    Truth is truth.

If you really believed you were right, you'd stop trying to justify yourself.

Im the end we'll all know what is true.

  • and who are you to judge people who believe that they have found the truth? something that you dont even understand. is it possible that in your limited amount of knowledge that there is evidence and proof of god? you are blinded by your hatred and desire to serve yourself. i stand by my brothers and sisters in christ and proclaim that there is a god and he is a god of love and mercy. and if you will persecute me for it then do it, because i would rather suffer for my god than for anything else.

  • @PoppingPOPcans u mad bro

  • im talking truth lol...

  • @PoppingPOPcans

...yeah it is just youtube so maybe just relax and stop ridiculing people for believing in something

  • im relaxed just annoyed by ppl like u that belive in some faggot and start yappng on a site.

  • i didnt start this shit dude you did

so stop being a dick and stop hating people because they believe differently than you

  • no stfu ur so stupid why u belive? WHY DO U AL BELIV IN SOME god? it's stupid! sum peasant made up just 2 be rich and said he had connections! he just scammed you all fools!

  • why do i believe... why dont you whats the problem with believing? you cant know for sure that God exists just as you cant know for sure that he doesnt in my faith clergy live a life of poverty so obviously they didnt do it to get rich. clearly you have no actual facts just a bunch of arbitrary personal attacks

  • how about u lick my nuts.

  • @PoppingPOPcans you have no right do we say your fucking dumb for saying you don't believe(well i don't) i want to believe they something they saying there is a very break look outlook i chose to believe that what faith means

  • @PoppingPOPcans you sound so stupid right now. just stop.

  • @PoppingPOPcans god bless. even if your dont believ in him, God bless

  • The vocals at the end are so powerful... wow.

  • I'm pretty certain it's about a pastor's kid/family...and while dad is out ministering to the abandoned, his own family is suffering without him, and abandoning God in the process.

"Widows and orphans aren't hard to find.

They're home missing daddy who's saving the abandoned tonight."

  • a very deep song, to write somthing these deep and wondurful he must be a totured soul

  • @KiLLiSLe not just the lyrics writer, but the band all together being able to write music that accents his beautiful poetry so incredibly...they're probably one of the most talented bands i know.

  • nice interpretation of the song luv this album

  • A great song that i think everyone can relate to at one point in their lives or another.

  • oh and billy is a the mentor

  • and btw when you read the lyrics ,,, billy stands as just a person but timothy takes the place of the singer,,, and when he says hope you drinking would hurry and kill you he's probobly refering to his mentor that was a fake and lied to him

  • this guy has the meaning of the song all wrong... this song is about the lead singers stuggle with god as he was just a child then when he was a teen he started to start believing in god then this mentor from his chruch promised him a miracle but the miracle never happend so that hindered his faith and as he got older he finally became a christian and accepted god into his heart

  • I really like your interpretation, I think lyrically it's quite accurate. But that's one of the reasons I really love this song! It's so ambiguous, that anyone can listen and take their own meaning from it.

  • both u and covanentsbane are correct...there is no right interpertation of the lyrics.....u may believe whatever u want to in these lyrics

  • And actually, there is a correct interpretation of the lyrics. The author of a poem or book, or the writer of a song has an intended meaning he wishes to convey.

But that's not to say that it can't mean something different to you, it's just that there is a definite meaning to most songs like this.

Great song by the way! I love the building epic (Fin, Miserable Visu).

  • dude i sooooo no what you mean and you are totaly right!

  • This piece is an amazing work of art. Beautiful & sad; somehow taking the pain and hurt from the story ad pairing it with a soft and peaceful mood. It paints a picture as vivid as any piece one could find in any art museum.

Something else that I truly enjoyed about this song is its powerful commentary on humanity. Several other commenters seem to take it as a cynical take on God; however, this is not the case. It's asking "Do we deserve any sort of salvation? Or are we just a lost cause?"

  • how can this song is sooo depressing and sooooooooo beautiful at the same time?!

  • I am agnostic but this song is awesome. i fucking love it. this is the first time i heard it and i fell in love with it.

  • 100% agree! :D

    It's a beautiful song nee~~!!

  • THIS SONG IS EPIC!!!! One of my favourites.

  • this song always reminds me of watching a sunrise with a smile on my face. So peaceful, and so quiet... It's too bad not many people that i know are able to stay awake to watch it with me.

  • I prefer to figure out my own meanings within songs... thus is the way of art, left for the observer to decipher...

  • Wow... this song. It really hits home. It's really awestriking.

  • This song is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. :) We are all 'patron saints', for our sins are what killed Jesus on the cross in Calvary. He could have saved Himself at any time. But no, He stayed and endured for us. I believe if I was the only one on earth, He would have died for me, because He loves all of us individually and unconditionally...No matter how alone you think you are, that you feel no one sees or cares, remember that He is always there.

  • excellant

  • my dad is aLso

    doing those things..

    i haTe him!!

    :(

  • ........:(

  • dont just try not to end up the same way yeah?

i mean if theres nothing that he'll listen too just do your best to make your life better without him youd be suprised..

  • Romans 1:20

  • I am an atheist, however I still see the profound meaning within in this song, I know it includes religion, but it's also about getting through hard times. I do not need a god to be happy when times are tough, only a good conscience and persistent and relentless optimism. This is an amazing song, may everyone be happy with their beliefs :D

  • the lovable kind of athiest :P I was getting a little sick of the ignorant and discriminative athiests. But you have put a smile on my face. thank you.

  • It honestly goes both ways, it does for a lot of things. heh, my best friend is a devout catholic, but that's never been an issue because we don't see why it would be.

  • I've done very bad things in my life, but for the most part i myself was the one who suffered for them.(other then my family). People are selfish and just think of themselves, but expect good things. good luck with that))) As for this song.....I love it...i was a lost cause for the majority of my life...25yrs...soon to be 26 and i found my cause. My cause is the love of the most beautiful and intelligent women in the world. I've been blessed and only a fool would ruin something as good as this.

  • I agree with you on that. Also belief i something that come to you. Everyone can believe if they really want. Its the choices you make that matter. To people trying to prove people that believe wrong. Why would you do that. If you really beleive in something nothing someone says will change your mind. The reason we dont weather god exists is because if we knew everyone would just make the right choices because they have to not because they want to. Im 16 and i believe

  • again thats when polytheism was ousted and almost everyone become monotheist. This in my opinion was another way to capitalize on peoples beliefs and control them. I go to church when i can, and do believe, but i also say my prayers every night before i go to sleep. People need to realize that church is good, but belief is beyond that. It's a state of mind, a utopia that nobody can take away from a person. Doing what someone thinks is "Good" goes way beyond doing something for compensation.

  • I agree with you on the thing about belief.

I just don't like it when people think they realize that, and then say that all church/religion is wrong and corrupt just because people are the ones in it. Hey, people... PEOPLE aren't perfect!

  • as for god...people really need to sit and think. Everything we know is contradicted years later with new theories disproving the old ones. The only theory that has existed since the beginning of man is that of a greater power/being. "science" is theory in it's self. "history" is written by man, and with "science" it states we derived from monkeys))). I like bananas, and loved climbing on trees as a little kid but that's it. I know people will say that christ came to earth only 2000 yrs ago but

  • So we're not trying to force you to believe. Just encouraging. I'm telling you all this out of love, not hatred or discrimination or ego or any of those things. I love people, and I love my God. God loves unconditionally, and a little faith goes a long way. He has worked wonders that are unimaginable in my life. I know that He will in yours too. :)

    God bless.

  • I drifted to sleep meaning I was half asleep and very relaxed. Then He told me He loved me. And I felt this all around calm like nothing else. Than I fell asleep completely, and now there isn't a day that goes by without me thinking about it.

  • God talked to me the other night. I had been low on faith and some crap had been going on in my life... And then I thought about my dad and how much he cares about me. Then I thought about God and how I hadn't been thinking about Him or really making any effort in our relationship... And I realized He loves me more than my dad could. I drifted off to sleep, and I heard a voice. I couldn't tell if it was a man or a woman, but it said "WAY more than that". It was the first time ever.
