Words can never repay the debt owed 2nd ranger Battalion for those that gave their lives R.I.P. They shall and will never to be forgotten along with all those that perished in WW II
@webbster92 its a production by the Smithsonian Network - TIMEWATCH: D-DAY: THE TRUE STORY OF OMAHA I know an exec there so I was able to get a production copy
@webbster92 check out my other projects at youtube.com/collegeyears. Projects such as the history of the internet which I believe is much better than this
My grandfather was part of D-company, 2nd ranger battalion that stormed Pointe du Hoc (which the narrator cannot pronounce). He was best friends with Leonard Lomell, who you can read tons about. My grandfather, Richard Spleen, was captured on D-day after getting knocked unconscious from an explosion. This was all told to me by Leonard Lomell, a great man to help me learn about my grandfather.
@Mikeluv311 My grandmother's brother was there too. He was captured two days after they landed. He was later on liberated. There is a bronze plaque at Pointe du Hoc dedicated to him. He was captured when he volunteered to go find their machine gunner that got lost. On his way back he came across a patrol of 6 Germans and as he used to say; they pointed their guns at me and said if I came peacefully then they wouldn't shoot and that sounded like a good proposition at the time.
On Jan, 11 1979, this 13-hectare field was ceded permanently to the US government, who made the American Battle Monuments Commission responsible for its maintenance.
great vid but its doesnt show that the cannons were the ranger out for were moved back inland from the beach for 1.5 km because of the bombardments and were totally unmanned
well done great vid took my son to see pointe du hoc and stunned at height and steepness of cliffs scariest assault on d-day heroes every man i salute you all
