  • What does LIS stand for?

  • lis

  • It's such a shame to learn that deaf people in Italy are oppressed. I'm curious now, are the neighboring countries there like that, too?

  • Grazie tanto per il vostro supporto!

  • I did it! Luckily, I understand enough Italian to have been able to comprehend what was on the page! I'm thinking of doing a ASL video about the situation in Italy. It sucks! The Deaf Italians definitely have my support! From your hearing brother, Manny!

  • Another thing you might find worth mentioning is... if sign language(s) were purely gesture (which they are not), then it would be expected that everybody can understand everybody else "universal", and hearing wouldn't need interpreters to understand sign language(s) since supposedly everybody can understand gesture. Hey, hearing who love real sign language(s), maybe test the "it's not real language" people by asking them how they'd gesture a rather abstract concept, or even describe 'internet'

  • Austin Andrews, you keep spelling LIA instead of LIS, please place your thumb a bit more carefully, because it makes me feel confused that the letters don't match in a bilingual sense.. so really, I'm not sure which it is: LIA or LIS. Thanks.

  • @Bridgetowalk:

Ah, what you're seeing is "LIS" spelled, using the Italian Sign Language manual alphabet.

I can understand how this could be confusing; that's why I usually accompany this with the ASL spelling the first time I do it (see timing 0:45 - 0:46). You can also see this in a previous vlog, "The Italian Job" (from 1:28 - 1:30).

Additionally, this is briefly addressed in the captions (to turn on captions, click on the "cc" at the bottom right-hand corner of the video).

    Thanks!

  • @Bridgetowalk It's LIS and that how Italian people sign their LIS... you can have a look at Italian Sin Language on youtube and see their A-Z :)

  • LOVE the style in this Vlog. You rock AA!

  • Signed!! Thanks to show me the link to support LIS. Thumb up! :0)

  • Excellent protest. and funny. Signing right away.

  • I have already signed this petition this afternoon and received an email notification. I hope it helps :) I will keep letting my friends know about this

  • Hi Austin, it's good to see you again since your famous Ninja movie. Say hello to your Dad for me. This is me Brenda. Keep it up for the Global Sign Community!!! Bravo!!

  • I love you man! Off to ACT (Catherine)

  • Going to send this to the Japanese Deaf community too!

  • podrzavam protest.od zoran iz serbia

  • I don't know whether to laugh or to cry when watching your vlog. Language of Moan and Grunts are equivalent to Language of Mime and Gestures indeed! It makes me really miffed to see how ignorant those lawmakers who are being influenced by those anti-sign language users that they swayed their vote to this very non-sense name of LMG. Hey Italian Parliamentary, we got news for you; take a signing class and we will bet you a million dollars that it is nothing compared to mimes & gestures.

  • I dont read Italian. Please translate what the words for English on the register to sign up.

    Cognome ? Last name?

    Citta?

    Commento? Comment on what?

  • @JEDorricott - I know what you mean; if you watch Part 2 (click on "watch next video" in the top right-hand corner), you'll see examples that help you understand what Cognome, Citta, etc mean.

  • We are the Global Signing Community. Let's flex our Signing Power! :)

  • Language of moans and grunts haha love it! Si LIS!

  • I like it. I am italian but I live in South of England, I am going to London on 25th May in Italian Embassy to protest them NO LMG YES LIS

  • Austin, thanks for your support for us deaf Italian :)

  • Thank you for your SUPPORT! Claudio

  • nooo lmg , SI LIS LIS LIS LIS LIS .

  • I shared this in FB to encourage others to keep it in circulation to give Deaf Italian people our support.

Mime? Gesture? Mama mia! It's so wrong! *shakes head*

  • Language of moans and grunts.... Good one! Thank you so much for being a great supporter of the Deaf Italian community. :D

  • Superb!!! done and share in fb too! GRIN!

  • awesome! im gonna link this to deafbook.tv!

  • GOOD Vlogg! I did too.

  • I totally agree with you there, man! Sign language in any form, are NOT miming at all.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of the hearing community viewing sign as "mime" or "gestural" language, without any form or grammar set in place. That's a totally stupid and ignorant way of thinking!

Thanks for this vlog, and this is a great cause to get behind - whether you're Italian, American, Asian, European - or even Venusian! We all need to act!

  • Sure thing, I will do that.
