  • I was lucky to watch this performance live in the concertgebouw March 6th 2011. It was a stunning performance. I ifelt the vibrations of the organ in the hall. Unbelievable.

  • What do you mean the Concertgebouw is closing?? The Hall?? The orchestra is disbanding?? I've heard recordings from here and think the Concertgebouw has some of the best acoustics in the world. As well, I understand it's one of the busiest halls, too! I've not heard of the Dutch government's "war on the arts". Why would they do that? Doesn't make sense!! Born in Canada, but being of Dutch heritage, and a professional musician, I'm HORRIFIED at this news. I don't believe it! Can you clarify??

  • As youtube still doesn't allow links in replies to messages,

I have (again) had to reply to this, your question in the info section.

  • @carminum It must be lies that they will close it down that would amount to a crime equalling murder and treason during wartime.

  • @Tyrfingr Simon Reinink, director of the Concertgebouw, in daily 'De Volkskrant', October 1, 2010: "If this goes through, it is the end of the foundations under our very existence. I'll have to close shop."

  • I agree, this is totally awesome performance! The clarity is unlike any previous version I've heard to date. Aside from conducting myself, I sing in a choir that regularly performs with our local professional symphony orchestra (the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra), and for a smaller mid-sized city, they are excellent. We haven't performed Mahler's 8th, though. Done several others, including the 2nd "Resurrection". That was great to sing!
