Interesting point. The civilians think that the criminals are too "evil" to care about innocent lives, and the criminals think that the civilians are too law-abiding to care about criminal "scumbags". The brilliant manipulation only adds to the confusion, as people try to use their own logic to solve a purely moral dillema.
I believe they would have detonated the bombs in real life. Just for the same reason a soldier triggers his weapon to kill his enemy: to survive. People do that in a corner of the world everyday.
@serkelet2 Prisoners have been recorded to have some of the lowest self esteem in the world, seeing them selves as lower than the average human. Their response was likely.
@serkelet2 I agree on that. Hysteria can cause panic and panic leads to an undeveloped choice when made by a group, however, it was not a group decision no matter how it looks. In the end it was up to that one guy and although panic was setting through, some people have the ability to make rational decisions through panic, a group V person mentality reinforces that.
why didn't the joker give the american's the detinator for their boat and the prisoners the detinator for their boat so they died in every possible way?

EnigmaticCZM... you're not entirely wrong... This was shot in a studio in Pinewood. Outside the windows was green screen panels and I believe the detonator hit that!! If you check out the other version of this on youtube (WHich includes a few bits this one missed) you can see ME hang my head in my hands at about 5mins 53sec! :-)
WHOA I THINK I SPOTTED YOU DUDE! I LOOKED AT 5 MIN 53 SECONDS ON THE OTHER VIDEO, YOU MUST BE THE GUY IN THE BACKGROUND THATS BEHIND THE GUY WITH THE GREEN OUTFIT ON?
Anyway, I am jealous. Lol. My sister was an extra in some movie but nothing nearly as epic as 'The Dark Knight'.
What if the detonator thrown by the black prisoner hit the window edge and accidentally triggered defonation? I think the detonator was to blow the ferry where it was placed.
it was a key that you would have to turn to activate the bomb...But chances are.....both boats had their own detonator..so if they did use it they blow up their own boat.

The detonator is activated by turning a key with some force, so that was a very unlikely thing to happen from a sudden impact.
