I can't see Apple giving up the Mac considering the direction they are going with it. Also, Apple wants to control the experience from Mac to iDevice and back again. I see it as another key element to their ecosystem.

I'm surprised you're so sure about flash storage for the Macbook Pros....Don't forget that stuff is still really expencive. And onther reason why they wouldn't do it is that they want to keep on selling the new Macbook Air!

@brondaa did you know Apple is the biggest purchaser of flash storage (not just for the MBA's but for the entire 'flash' market i.e. ipods, iphone, ipod touch etc). I'm absolutely certain they will offer this new flash storage on either all or some models of the next generation of Macbook/MBP's. By the time these MBP's are released, it will have been 5-6 months since the MBA's have launched... won't be an issue imho

Surely you must question what you family member was doing while on his computer to manage to viruses on it BEFORE even doing something. Ive ran windows 7 and before that XP with 0 viruses for on my current machine for 4 years with Norton360 so abit clueless about this.

@theunits3 From a business point of view, I would leave the MBP the same at least for one more cycle before I change it completely (Flash based memory, new form factor,…) so that the MBA doesn't loose it's uniqueness.

Knowing Apple, I think this is possible; as much as I like them, they're always thinking about making money… then again, who isn't? :)

They will not market the macs like they do with iPods, iPads and iPhones. No 2011 will be a tablet war. Apple had tablet market of 2010 for free. Now the competition starts.

I've made three exchanges and sold a Macbook pro for the past 6 months. I wanted to try the i7 but it's too powerful for me especially for what I use the computer for, but I paid a high price of course which is the restocking fee. I'm so glad that disappeared, but I don't want to do that again, it's not fun. Now I'm waiting for the Macbook Pro's refresh which it's been rumored for April. Let's see what comes out.

I am really impressed about macbook pro, the design, the look, performance, BATTERY, simplicity...... But I'm still afraid about buying one, it is expansive and worried that my money will be wasted. I'm waiting for the next refresh of the Macbook Pro to see what's Apple gonna bring to the table and hopefully we'll see a new design with an improved glossy display like the one from the Macbook Air and higher resolution standard.

i think apples vision for the future product range is stronger than ever, with the release of lion i can see them really streamlining gestures across all products (alot of what we are seeing in ios4.3 beta), connectivity between both ios and the os will be a big thing with cloud services built in to those os systems to bridge the gap.

@atyl1972 alright bud, golden rule is that if you wait - you'll get the best machine with time. From what you say, I would wait for the next gen Macbook/MBP's. They're due for refresh VERY soon (end of their lifecycle almost). The current MBA is well capable of what you want done, but as your pretty chilled out about the time, then no need to rush out and get the MBA ;)

Id like to see a MacBook pro that used both flash storage and a standard hard disk as standard. OSX would be on say 64gb flash storage part so u would get the quickness of the air, but then a 500gb HD for everything else.....perfect :)

considering mac and windows both lost overall market share last year i dont think mac will be big in 2011. windows 7 went up by alot but xp and vista ovcourse showed alot of loss, expected but windows 7 not reclaiming all windows users. mac started at 5.02, finished 5.02 wihlst windows lost 2. cant really see any big change here at all. neither windows or mac os is the future. the future will be a powerful cloud os controlled from almost anywhere. that is the future, might not be now but soon
