I think there is a sexuality like this, where you can only be attracted to one person at a given time. I honestly have no looked sexually or thought sexually about anyone else for that entire time. I absolutely love fucking my girlfriend and when I am not around her and I get horny I masturbate about fucking her.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why nice guys finish last. Put her on a pedestal and you'll be licking her boots and taking out her trash for the rest of your miserable life.

This is the most retarded sh*t. I'm not looking for a relationship because of a "nest". If I ever have a child, I'm going to be completely ready to take care of it on my own if it comes down to that. Love transcends past all of these boundaries. These idiots come up with these excuses because they DON'T UNDERSTAND what true, genuine, intelligent love is. You JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. And that's what it comes down to. Friggin bananas.
I am nervous for future monogamous people like me. Watching as science takes over the world (hate religion too, but don't pretend science has no evils). I watch as many of these people who are polygamists condemn monogamy for not being natural, yet neither are their toothbrushes natural. I watch as more and more people have casual sex with random ppl. I watch as more children grow up without knowing who their father is. I watch as my boyfriends throughout life cheat on me.
@TheOneWingedBird You are respected and cherished. By who? By me. Yes, I don't know you but because of your statement, a feel a little hope for humanity. Because I know exactly what you are talking about and I am with you on this one.
@SexyRaww Thank you. I am glad I'm not the only person who isn't stupid enough to believe that relationships should be short-term and all about sex. Sex may feel good, but love feels greater. But of course, most polygamists don't know that because they never seek romantic love. So thanks a lot for understanding my point.
Monogamy is a big part of religion which is already a control tool to keep people dumb to the true self and freedom! Marriage is also a big part of religion for the same reason! Almost every Monogamy Doctrine is a Lie! This is all part of a Control System! Lies such as One this and One that, is nothing more but ways to keep you low, taken control of, and unhappy! Stupid Lies like One God, One Woman for One Man, One Teacher for One Lesson at a time! Most of all this One shit is aimed at control
@MegaWisdom77 So you are telling me that spending a polygamous lifestyle until you're 60 is completely satisfactory? There will never be a moment where you're going to think, "I'm going to die soon and I never loved. Is this all life is about?" You're telling me that a superficial meaningless existence such as that one is the ultimate existence for you? Wow.....I'm sorry but I think you're really stupid.....
@SexyRaww Polygamists experience just as much, if not MORE love. You can love someone without only having sex with them. In fact, you can love three or four people at once...So whose missing out?
@Vegetarianpwnage Nevermind. I just think we don't understand each other at all, or the ways in which we see things is so vastly different. You and I are very different people and we are both seeing this situation through our own perception, in which we can't see it in a different way because of our set beliefs. I have tried to see it in your way but it just comes down I abhorring it. But I respect your decision to do as you please and I preach peace so whatever you do, you do as you please.
@SexyRaww I'm actually a monogamist myself. I just don't think it's natural, and I think 98 percent of people who are monogamists are only so because they think they have to be. It's so deeply in our culture(due to religion) now that most people never even question it.
@Vegetarianpwnage These percentages are beyond me that I am in that 2%. I was never brought up with the ideology of monogamy and I don't believe in organized religion. Neither of my parents were monogamous and it's hard for me to belief in one doctrine of religion because of the lack of proof. I do believe in mysticism but my spiritual belief in the omnipresence of everlasting divine energy has nothing to do with my belief in devoting myself to someone.
@Vegetarianpwnage Monogamy is natural when dealing with more intelligent human beings - the more intelligent a human being is, the less they are dominated by an instinct like sex and the more rationality and, well, rational love, take over. Monogamy can be natural when dealing with intelligent human beings, but the common human being is NOT monogamous.
Respond to this video... (continued) By the way, this might come as a shock to your judgment but I am a serious monogamist and don't believe in organized religion. I am a highly deep thinker and dislike religious beliefs. My monogamous nature stems from a natural desire in me to deeply love one person and be loved deeply by one person. Peace.
If you have the popular presupposition that evolution is fact, then the natural pursuit of pleasure will supersede any hindrance in keeping to monogamist lifestyle.
However, if one has the presumptions that there is a God who will hold people accountable for breaking his laws, in the life to come, then monogamy would be the ideal. :)
Lev 20:10 "If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death
Monogamy is beautiful. But, monogamy is a CHOICE. Scientific FACT. Only 3% of mammals are monogamous, and NONE of those are primates (like humans). Men produce 5 types of sperm, 4 of which only exist to kill other mens sperm - and only for 24 hours. I could go on. But unless your a metal midget, you can see from just those two facts than monogamy is NOT natural. You're immature if you expect your partner to fulfill ALL your needs. That's absurd! BUT don't cheat - try swinging. It's HOT & FUN!!
@KombiPode From published scientific research: Gallup, G.G. & Burch, R.L. (2004) Semen Displacement as a Sperm Competition Strategy in Humans. Evolutionary Psychology 2,12-23.; Bellis, M.A. & Baker, R.R. (1990). Do females promote sperm competition?: Data for humans. Anim. Behav., 40, 997-999.; Baker, R.R. & Bellis, M.A. (1988). ‘Kamikaze’ Sperm in Mammals? Anim. Behav., 36, 936-939.; Robin Baker, Sperm Wars: The Science of Sex; Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature by Matt Ridley;
@KombiPode You know what he means. For instance, humans for centuries have contended that "race-mixing" is unnatural. Yet any human can breed with another, thus proving it 100% natural. There is a difference between human morality (which varies widely by society) and natural law. Nietzsche wrote that there is neither good nor evil, that there is only moral belief that is constructed by society and imprinted into the minds of the youth (societal conformism). Humans ARE the universe.
Human hormone levels and testicle size suggests that humans are adapted for both monogamy and promiscuity. If you look at gorillas, males are monogamous, if you look at chimps, males are promiscuous, if you look at humans we cut it both ways depending on our environment and society. Different environments may favor different lifestyles. If resources are scarce and one male impregnates the entire tribe (assuming a small breeding population) the entire next two generations are at a disadvantage.
I support beating the shit out of bad boys and I have done just that a few times. Besides, what's the use of being a bad boy besides a waste of space. Goodness outweighs badness in the survival of todays society. Bad behavour is a weakness. Thats why they are all poor!
I am a tough nice guy, and I never took a chance on actually having a kid (protection). Me or my girlfriend have never cheat on each other, and we been together fo 9 years now. Monogamy can be achieved.
Here is another reason for monogamy in human beings, population control. Polygamous species are less fertile. Imagine the population of the human species if every horny dude spread those seeds like hotcakes.
@riverlioness "every horny dude". It takes a woman to make a baby. Please don't make this one-sided. Women would be just as selective as they are now. And imagine getting to openly pick who you take home tonight, without being judged. I'll try to imagine that doesn't make you giggle.
I wasn't trying to be one-sided, it was just an example. I complain about women popping out a half a dozen children.
I already took home the pick of the litter, and married him. I haven't seen anything better.
I never cared what society thought. Really. Even women judged me for not choosing a pink collar field. They were my harshest critics. I was lonely for a long time. Attraction is a pit-fall. If you jump, you won't be happy. My guess is cheaters are spontaneous and regret it
Monogamy should be considered no more sanctified or acceptable than non-monogamy. We have motivations for both, as he is saying. These are decisions that couples can make together about their relationship. There are challenges for both. For me personally the challenges to monogamy FAR outweigh the benefits. I do not have a fragile ego and I know how to convert jealousy into something useful.
Follow your instincts... life is like a walk in the park, if you want an apple you pluck one from a tree, if the tree doesn't produce any fruit, move on to the next one.
i lost my virginity when i was 13 it was awesum i love sex i have sex all the time with different ppl ive slept with almost all the guys in my school i loveeeeeeeeeeeee sexxxxxxxxxxxxxx
That whole human's instincts is just a load of bull to be promiscuous and you know it. We are more intelligent than animals. It is not all about instincts we have emotions and can think things through and reason.
Moreover saying were animals and have instincts and urges which we should act on is just an excuse not to be held responsible for being promiscuous and not practicing monogamy.
Biologically speaking humans may be animals but we have a more sophisticated way of thinking. People act like they have no sense and say ignorant things like "were only animals" or "everyone is doing it" Why do it for those reasons. Be the change be more than an animal (on an intellectual level anyway)
Your promoting monogamy as a moral directive. My point is that it shouldnt be looked down upon to be someone who engages in whatever sexual activity they like!! Monogamy is used as a social construct. There is no governing law saying that that is the what every human should practice! Being promiscuous isnt necessarily evil
this sounds a lot like "you don't believe in god in order to sin".
the truth appears to be somewhere in between. we ARE animals, and we certainly do have instincts we act upon. what is different about us is that we have the ability (to some extend) to critique our instinctual impulses, and decide upon our actions. this ability was developed in order to be able to organize well enough to raise our long-childhood babies.
Hillary Clinton is the eldest of three and has two YOUNGER brothers. I think this is the reason why she is so powerful. We need more Hillarys and (Meryl Streeps, who is of the same birth order) don't you think? So if your first child happens to be a girl, and your second child a boy, then have a third child. Hopefully he is a boy.
We are animals, in case you didn't know. Humans are in fact mammals. Don't try and pretend we are above our natural instincts. Instincts that don't favour monogamy, but favour 'spreading our seed.' Don't shoot the messenger for being honest.....
The guy is right. Now, most of you need to learn that concensual non-monogamy would accomodate all of these biological urges. It is not cheating if your partner shares your desire for you to sleep with someone else.
not exactly right, because when your girlfriend shares her vagina with some other male, it will cone also NATURAL to you to be pissed because instinct tells you you might be investing your resources in another males genes-carrier (aka offspring) in the near future. likewise, if you are a girl and your mate sleeps around, you will NATURALY be pissed because you know he might spit his resources with other females and their gene-carriers.
Actually, I have two girlfriends, and both of them have other male lovers. I am not jealous. I focus on the benefits. Also, none of them have children, and I'm the only one able to have children at this point (but that will change). The women have their tubes tied.
well, i'm glad that you're happy, and yes, the conscious can dominate the instinct (at least in some situations), but, you said "you are focusing on the benefits", that implies (if i read it right) that you do feel a pressure of sensing some discomfort in this situation. anyway, what he says in his book (and he is just rephrasing scientists supposedly) is that we are meant to be tormented, to try to find balance between opposing forces. (he was one of you at a point in his life)
in his book he says that love pretty much will last until the child reaches adulthood, then affection tends to drop because the "alliance" looses it's goal.
Also women often say, oh whats the difference? Woman can cheat too or have other partners. The answer is yes its possible but its not built in their nature. We are run by out instincts and hormones, yes even our brain is. The truth is we have to study man as a creature and accept its nature. You can blame god if you want for making men as they are but cant blame men. And its very hard for men to be called every bad name in the book just because what nature has gave them.
that's not what he says. he says women also feel the need to cheat because it's hard to find both good genes (athletic body and such) and good parenting in the same guy. hence.. the cheating. but the need is probably less intense then in males
GREAT video... and the book is even better. Joe's likeable wit makes looking at the battles of the sexes a pleasure. His book is perfect to buy for someone who's trying to understand the science behind the messiness: i.e., ourselves and everyone else! Erika M.
I'd like to know how he explains women like me, who have NO interest in children, monogamy or "romance", and whom is predominately attracted to feminine looking men? I'd much rather spend my life with lots of lovers, friends, in a setting where I feel free to explore my sexuality.
Am I a genetic anomaly? Or a sign of the FUTURE! :) :)
or just like me! As long as the guy is good looking. I got standards. high ones. Everyone knows long term relationships do not work. I don't want to be in a relationship where five years later I am like, " you ruined my life."
This video actually made me laugh out loud! I actually went right on Amazon to purchase the book. Everything you said is true and it was great to hear someone say it with humor and intelligence. Good Luck in your future endeavors.
This video's amazing, and it dangles so many tantalizing ideas that it's a good thing the book can deliver. The book's funny, whip smart, and beneath the easygoing surface, is packed to the gills with science. Joe's a great speaker live too. I really recommended both the book and, if you can catch an event, hearing him speak at your local bookstore.
I'm a lawyer in st louis. I like to read books that are funny and mentally stimulating at the same time.Quirk has succeeded on both counts. What a great book and enjoyable read.Quirk is so goofy but intelligent I can see him juggling and writing at the same time.
Joe, Having worked with your mother for the past 8 years, I can see where your (biological) mannerisms were developed. I'm a retired Fire Captain who started a 2nd career after the fire dept. Your teachings would do wonders in any career firehouse break area. I learned by watching your video's, wish you luck in all your endeavors.
I've majored in biological anthropology and so everything you say makes complete sense. DNA tells women to be choosy about their pertners and tells men to have as many partners as possible. The whole "Men are from Mars" type stuff isn't made up, it's a fact of life. Thanks for enlightening the world to evolutionary reasoning!
This book got me laid, a girlfriend, and got my girlfriend to get me to marry her ! I read this and used its knowledge to help me get a date with this supper hot chick I met. It helped so much and is so funny that she read it too. We are getting married this year! I can't recommend this dude enough. Really funny guy in the video too!
Everyone needs this book! It's the most coherent and enjoyable read you'll find on the topic of men, women, relationships with lots of additional interesting information.
Don't be fooled: beneath the cartoon veneer here is a deep pool of research & thought. Fun video, but the book is even better-- truly excellent. Smart, and with a real sense of humanity.
Joe Quirk is the George Carlin of science. I'm jealous.

Timothy Leary).
When are you going to get your own show on the Discovery Channel or better yet Showtime! I'm going to buy your book and give copies to all of my friends who are struggling to find love. SOoooo when are you going to write the next book on how to trick our biology!
so you're saying... that if you want to increase your chances of conceiving a child, you should make sure to have sex during ovulation (of course) and you should specifically have the male sperm inside when the female filing system orgasm happens?!?
Welcome to the team, Scott! Jerry will be crushed. And Joe, love this. Especially that smoking hot couch scene. Although the voices sounded creepily familiar...

Thinking that humans exist outside of nature is closed-minded and dumb.
Anything and everything that humans do, ever, is completely natural. In fact there is nothing in existence that is not completely 100% natural.
In other news, the earth isn't flat, nor is it the center of the universe.
That being said, monogamy and promiscuity are both programmed into our genes and both serve a purpose.

Excellent video.
Often people do not look for scientific explanations to questions such as why people cheat on their partners.

Follow your instincts... life is like a walk in the park, if you want an apple you pluck one from a tree, if the tree doesn't produce any fruit, move on to the next one.

That whole human's instincts is just a load of bull to be promiscuous and you know it. We are more intelligent than animals. It is not all about instincts we have emotions and can think things through and reason.
hakhap12 2 years ago
Moreover saying were animals and have instincts and urges which we should act on is just an excuse not to be held responsible for being promiscuous and not practicing monogamy.
hakhap12 2 years ago
Biologically speaking humans may be animals but we have a more sophisticated way of thinking. People act like they have no sense and say ignorant things like "were only animals" or "everyone is doing it" Why do it for those reasons. Be the change be more than an animal (on an intellectual level anyway)
hakhap12 2 years ago
Maybe so, but being an individual who chooses not to practice monogamy should not be frowned upon!
jfergu18 2 years ago 2
Your promoting monogamy as a moral directive. My point is that it shouldnt be looked down upon to be someone who engages in whatever sexual activity they like!! Monogamy is used as a social construct. There is no governing law saying that that is the what every human should practice! Being promiscuous isnt necessarily evil
jfergu18 2 years ago
this sounds a lot like "you don't believe in god in order to sin".
the truth appears to be somewhere in between. we ARE animals, and we certainly do have instincts we act upon. what is different about us is that we have the ability (to some extend) to critique our instinctual impulses, and decide upon our actions. this ability was developed in order to be able to organize well enough to raise our long-childhood babies.

Instincts that don't favour monogamy, but favour 'spreading our seed.' Don't shoot the messenger for being honest.....
jfergu18 2 years ago
speak for urself bro......im 100% human....thats why i dont sleep with animals like alot of u sick people do.....
anthmi2 2 years ago
If you sleep with humans u sleep with animals. The species Homo sapien (ie humans) are mammals.......sorry to burst your bubble
jfergu18 2 years ago
The guy is right. Now, most of you need to learn that concensual non-monogamy would accomodate all of these biological urges. It is not cheating if your partner shares your desire for you to sleep with someone else.
aNaturalist 2 years ago 2
not exactly right, because when your girlfriend shares her vagina with some other male, it will cone also NATURAL to you to be pissed because instinct tells you you might be investing your resources in another males genes-carrier (aka offspring) in the near future. likewise, if you are a girl and your mate sleeps around, you will NATURALY be pissed because you know he might spit his resources with other females and their gene-carriers.
preput 2 years ago
Actually, I have two girlfriends, and both of them have other male lovers. I am not jealous. I focus on the benefits. Also, none of them have children, and I'm the only one able to have children at this point (but that will change). The women have their tubes tied.
aNaturalist 2 years ago 2
well, i'm glad that you're happy, and yes, the conscious can dominate the instinct (at least in some situations), but, you said "you are focusing on the benefits", that implies (if i read it right) that you do feel a pressure of sensing some discomfort in this situation. anyway, what he says in his book (and he is just rephrasing scientists supposedly) is that we are meant to be tormented, to try to find balance between opposing forces. (he was one of you at a point in his life)
preput 2 years ago
Balance may be found on either side of the line.

in his book he says that love pretty much will last until the child reaches adulthood, then affection tends to drop because the "alliance" looses it's goal.

D9v9neC9pher 3 years ago
Also women often say, oh whats the difference? Woman can cheat too or have other partners. The answer is yes its possible but its not built in their nature. We are run by out instincts and hormones, yes even our brain is. The truth is we have to study man as a creature and accept its nature. You can blame god if you want for making men as they are but cant blame men. And its very hard for men to be called every bad name in the book just because what nature has gave them.
Bijan67 3 years ago
that's not what he says. he says women also feel the need to cheat because it's hard to find both good genes (athletic body and such) and good parenting in the same guy. hence.. the cheating. but the need is probably less intense then in males

Hey Joe,
I've majored in biological anthropology and so everything you say makes complete sense. DNA tells women to be choosy about their pertners and tells men to have as many partners as possible. The whole "Men are from Mars" type stuff isn't made up, it's a fact of life. Thanks for enlightening the world to evolutionary reasoning!
