  • If only I had seen this last week. My 3 year old tabby cat died yesterday after being in contact with my dog who had been bathed in an over the counter shampoo containing Pyrethrum. There was no warning on the label and my cat had not been treated. It took us too long to make the connection - how toxic are these products if they cause this reaction by only sharing an environment? These products MUST CARRY CLEAR WARNINGS ON THE LABELS or better still withdrawn.

  • @Dibble649 hahaha, brilliant

  • Sergeants Flea & Tick PRODUCTS ALMOST KILLED BOTH MY CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BOTH WENT INTO SEIZURES AND ALMOST DIED THIS MORNING!!!

  • I just bought mortein flea bombs and was about to douse the house as I found fleas on my dog. I have two dogs and a cat. There is no mention at all about permethrin & it's toxicity to cats ANYWHERE on the box or can!! It says to remove pets from the house for two hours. How can this company sell this product!!! It definitely indicates that it is safe to use in a household with pets. I had an inkling that I should check the net and make sure it won't hurt my dogs or cat, after seeing Oliver ther

  • The only person responsible is you. Your the one who used an product that you did not research beforehand. Everyone who owns a pet should know what is toxic to that animal. Im sorry for your loss but blaming someone other than yourself will not heal your pain.

  • @tattoome5150 WELL MAYBE THEY SHOULDNT SELL POISONOUS PRODUCTS WOW

  • I am so sorry! I DESPISE with every fiber of my being these business people who profit off of others without regard for their suffering.

  • I am so sorry for the loss of Oliver! He is jus beautiful. These companies need to take action. Bet they dont use it on their pets!

  • It is all poisonous!!! If you would not put it on the back of your own neck....................DON'T PUT IT ON YOUR PET!!! Every single OTC and even the veterinary available products are toxic. Parasites are a pain in the arse, but there are natural ways to deal with them, along with not letting your pet out and only treating when there is an outbreak.

  • does frontline have this in their kitty products?

  • @CoolConejo No. It has something else, but it still isn't "safe". More and more incidences with Frontline are reported. It had the highest number of incidences to the EPA reporting system of any product. If you don't want to try alternatives like diatomaceous earth, vacuuming, washing bedding & flea combing and need a chemical intervention, Capstar seems to have the least amount of issues. It's out of the body in about 3 days and is to break the cycle while using other stuff.

  • I have an idea: Someone should put a giant billboard up in the middle of a major city that says: "Cat owners beware of Hartz Guard" or something to that effect. It may not stop them from putting permethrin in cat products but it will certainly put cat owners on alert.

  • You would be right that manufacturers have been using permethrin toxicity in cats from dog products as their big scape goat for year. Guess what? It's in CAT only products too... like Sergeant's Flea & Tick Spray for CATS as well as Bob Martin Velvet Collars and others.

  • Did you read the label? Flea & tick products with permethrin are meant only for dogs.

  • @roguegirl29 See above comment. You are wrong. It's in cat products now too.

  • @TinyTimmySpeaks Are you serious? Cats can't matabolize pyrethroids! Even a small amount could kill them!

  • @roguegirl29 I know! I don't think we are on different sides of this. This stuff sucks. period.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver. But any product with Permethrin is meant for dogs only! If you had read the box, it would have clearly stated Not for Use in Cats, likely in very large print. In dogs, it is perfectly safe. So while your situation is very sad, and my heart goes out to you, you cannot blame the company for your misuse of their product.

  • how many days did it take till he died

  • Shoot theses poisnus buggers. Up ere in Canada no one has won much aginst a company that caused the death and injury to many animals and the scandle continues. When are big companies and small ever going to have to meat the same standerd in pet products and food as they do in human products and food.

I am so sorry for your lss. Not everyone recoizes that a pet is as much a mamber of your family as anyone else. That is no one who has a heart. Sorry would be an understatment my friend!

  • OH NO, I am so sorry for your lost of Oliver. HARTZ should be held accountable for this. (=^_^=) Meow..

  • Poor poor baby!! I am SO sorry for your loss!!

  • Permethrin is toxic to cats only. It's safe for dogs and humans

  • Why would you want to apply something that's toxic to ANY animal? It's not "safe"!

  • @kuusaamo Permethrin is in cat products despite toxicity. It is also a carcinogen for cats, dogs, and people and has been known to be so for decades. When the EPA tried to re-classify the toxicity, they were sued. Thus, the public ends up believing what good marketing and fancy lobbying dollars have told them.
