I think it's a little ignorant to say Ton Koopman really doesn't know Bach, when he is highly renowned as a great living interpreter of Bach's organ music. His recording of Bach's Organ Trio sonatas is masterful
Listen to the layers and you'll find Bach is painting a picture of the Fall of man. The top line is the original melody, the inner voices are serpentine (!) and the downward chromatic leaps in the bass are the Fall. Had Koopman played it slower, the inner voices wouldn't writhe like a snake.

Too fast and shallow. This prelude is supposed to be about the fall of man not a child coming down a playground slide.
