The Israelis respond, and when civilians are killed Hamas uses thier deaths for propaganda.

The simple fact that slavery had to be abolished in a later amendment should be clue enough that the constitution wasn't perfect from the start, and thus, is an imperfect document.
The constitution has been changed multiple times in our nations history. They are called amendments. The country's founders expected the future generations to change the constitution. They expected slavery to be abolished. The idea that the constitution written down almost 240 years ago should never be reexamined or changed is absurd. Technology at this very moment is outpacing governments ability to keep up with the times, yet some of you people expect the constitution to manage it unchanged?

The constitution itself has provisions within it for change, problem is that progressives reject the amendment process. The constitution is based on fundamental principles, not supposed to change due to environmental pressure, they are the foundation designed to weather storms.

Norway, my country, was a socialist country up until the 90s, then the labour party became more social democrat, or left-of-centre. @TheInternetizen How is it that by expecting that our constitution be respected and followed by those that have sworn to do so have means that we do not expect any changes be made to meet the demands of a modern world? The constitution itself has provisions within it for change, problem is that progressives reject the amendment process. The constitution is based on fundamental principles, not supposed to change due to environmental pressure, they are the foundation designed to weather storms.

As I read the constitution and then look at much of what occurs in our society today I have to say that I do not see enough flexibility for the emanate domain rulings of our courts, state laws allowing police review our cell phone activity at traffic stops, the whole mess we call the TSA, where is that in our constitution? Norway, my country, was a socialist country up until the 90s, then the labour party became more social democrat, or left-of-centre. There was never any bloodshed, the population was one of the richer ones in Europe. Then the free market system came in 1982, and the country went bankrupt. Yeah, awesome.

@megarational The last census, like the one before it, confirms that the portion of the nations wealth in the hands of the families at the top end increased and the portion of the nations wealth in the hands of the middle and lower class continues to decrease.
In other words, system based redistribution of the wealth has been occurring on a seemingly unstoppable course for many years.

- massive unfunded tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefited the very highest incomes.
- eliminated inheritance tax on large financial dynasties, solidifying economic class structure.
- eliminated tax on dividend's so that a construction worker sweats every workday to make $80K & pays tax through the nose, while a wealthy person can rake in 10 times that income in dividends and not pay one dime of tax on that income.

I just heard Congress ONLY has 31 working days til the NOVEMER elections. Already they work ONLY three days a week, have numerous week or longer "recesses". No wonder they don't have "time" to read the freaking bills they saddle on the taxpayer. Government jobs NEED to become hourly. NO work=NO pay AND NO lifetime retirement. That'll save hundreds of billions a year.

Socialism equals violence. Government equals force. Gov has nothing, it can only steal through force and violence.Redistribution does not CREATE wealth, it just moves it around and over long periods of time ends up shrinking the over all wealth of society. Wealth comes from an increase in production, not by increase of paper money or redistribution. However, in worse than regular socialism, we are getting corporatism more so than socialism in the US. Which is basically socialism for the rich.

I just don't understand the attitudes of some of the wealthy people in this world. Yes some lower class, poor people, COULD have worked harder and made it to riches, BUT not all. There CANNOT be rich WITHOUT poor...plain and simple. Does that sound right to you in a larger perspective? All of you out there making millions or billions, are only fueling the inevitibility of the poor class. You may say you worked hard, but 75% of you didn't, you were born into it. Is that fair?

If ive worked my ass all my life to my great secure post of a great job in an upper class community, I would refuse to pay for the scumbags that are living off wellfare. Im refering the ones who couuld get jobs, but choose not too. I mean no disrespect to the community of disabled who cant work, but these other people can. With the passing of the health care bill, its just getting worse. I dont want to pay more of my already 40% federally taxed income.

Newsflash to all the kindergarten ideologists out there: those glorified Leave-it-to-beaver days of the 50's had much higher marginal tax rates than we do now, and much much higher rates of unionization than we do now--yet the world didn't collapse. The ultimate reason why the super-rich should pay much higher taxes than the rest of us is simple--they should have to pay the most bucks if they are going to assume ownership...

@Jaymee1971 Economics doesn't work that way. Govt policies take time to affect the economy. What Obama did in his first term of office was merely to try to prevent a further melt-down but the recession was already well-under way.

@Jaymee1971 I think Republican policy regarding govt deregulation of financial institutions made abuses easy and the system vulnerable to global market events such as the trade deficit and weakening of the dollar. It didn't help also that George Bush decided to fight a very expensive global war on terror.
What do you want Obama to do? Give up the war, retrench all the soldiers, cut all the govt contracts and cut govt spending? With more jobless you will have civil war in America
