  • Brad Hogg looks older here than he does now...

  • love it. hoggy with the tongue out, what a beauty.

  • Good to see him back in the team

  • 9 years later and he's still bamboozling batsmen

  • I personally asked Brad Hogg about this delivery and he said it was indeed a "flipper". And no, I'm not just making this up... He's a Perth boy like myself , quite often see many of the WA lads out and about. Often see Marcus North and Ryan Campbell at the shops as well... and saw Gibbs and Paul Collingwood at a bar.

  • Wtf

  • @MegaWhata racist fuck.

  • @MegaWhata pffft your mother is more of a monkey from all the bananas she throats hahhahahahahahhahahahha

  • zimbabwe lol

  • @robelinda2 this is one of my favourite uploads of yours. Love me some hoggy.

  • i never knew that brad hodge bowled i thought he was a batsmen but i must stand corrected and that took of wen it hit the ground almost not really as good as shane warnes flippers

  • @cricket4life45 It's Brad Hogg. Not Hodge. Hogg is a chinaman bowler for the Scorchers, Hodge a batsman for the Renegades+Victoria.

  • @cricket4life45 once i saw HODGE bowl in a state match pitched before halfway and turned it over leg stump

  • looked like helmet was on wickets :P

  • this was posted up on a forum - big cricket dot com where a load of us had a look at it, people enhanced it and stuff, but to be honest with the poor quality/frame rate its not easy to see exactly what he does. It might be the top-spinning Flipper, but what does it matter one way or the other?

  • To everyone who says its not a flipper.....it comes out the front of his hand, what else could it be?

  • @mcnesta80 yes its a flipper. it doesnt matter which part of the hand it comes out. from the ball is dragged down quicker in the air its a flipper

  • @kemar282008 it needs underspin to be a flipper, so it hurries on. I'm not sure how you get underspin without either changing the action or going out the front.

  • That's both physically impossible, funk, and it wouldn't produce the topspin that you can see in the video. You need a rethink.

Have a go at flicking out a cricket ball between your first and second fingers and tell me how it goes. You might be able to do it with a table tennis ball perhaps.

  • that's what funk192 said until he saw the light and removed his comments. look closely: the ball very clearly has topspin on it. Topspin = not a flipper.

  • @py0alb I removed my comment not because I think it has topspin on it, but because there is not enough detail in the video to show exactly what happend. To me it looks like it shoots out the hand and if it had topspin on it, the ball path would be much more curved(dip)

  • that was a flipper, it comes out of the hand a completely different way to the top spinner

  • lol cant believe ppl r saying thats a topspinner or not a flipper. listen to robelinda2

  • @funk192 I just sit and laugh at the dickheads who don't know what a flipper looks like, you can't get a more legit flipper than this.

  • i guess its called "Top-Spin" ?

  • It's a great delivery. But that ain't no flipper!

  • Well for coaches, spectators, analysts and batsmen wanting to understand the art of legspin, and young bowlers hoping to emulate international bowlers, it matters a whole lot, because they're completely opposite deliveries in their execution.

  • @py0alb In response to your point here, I just don't think this is a good example to use as the quality is so poor. If you're looking for examples of a conventional Top-Spinner - see Warne and Jenners videos. If you're looking for examples of a Top-Spinning Flipper that's a little trickier, your only port of call is Grimmetts book 'Getting Wickets' circa 1930 for a written description as far as I know.

  • Seriously, does it even matter whether it's a "flipper" or a "top spinner"?

  • Oh the Flipper ! What a bowl and sadly no one uses it anymore

  • Sorry not Dravid, Ganguly. Same difference anyway.

I see no reason to believe Brad Hogg even actually bowls a flipper. He just has a couple of different toppies.

  • @kalvin77

    Look at: v=h4x3QWQC6Tc

at 3.57 he bowls the exact same ball to Dravid. The topspin is even clearer here. This is NOT a flipper, its a quick, flat topspinner.

  • @kalvin77

So you're claiming one of two things: either that the delivery doesn't quite visibly topspin on it in the slow motion replay - in which case you need your glasses checked, or that a flipper has topspin on, in which case you're simply incorrect.

So what are you: blind or stupid?

  • That's not a flipper, just a quicker topspinner. You can see the ball spinning forward in the air.

  • @py0alb you obviously know nothing about leg spin, you can see the position of the hand and fingers it is a flipper

  • In terms of wickets, Brad Hogg is Australia's 2nd best ODI spinner of all time behind Shane Warne. Warney took 293 ODI wickets and Hogg took 156 wickets. Hogg was also a handy lower order batsman - probably better than Warne. His wrong'un was brilliant and he's the one of the best left-arm wrist spinners in cricket. He also contributed greatly to Australia's two World Cup wins too. Hoggy was a great bowler. So many batsman in world cricket struggled to read him.

  • chinaman bowlers are very rare to see..

  • what an awesome ball to get one of the best batsman in cricket!

  • If he had pulled that, it would be a boundary. What was he doing!? Thats not even a shot... what, was it like a half cut?

  • That was just a quicker ball. LOL Flipper my arse!

  • @GibbleDibble Genuine flipper , you can see the change in his action and wrist position. As well as the pace and direction of the ball

  • Comment removed

  • @GibbleDibble again you know nothing about legspin, this is a flipper and you can see the grip and release it comes out the front of the hand

  • yeah, flower a good player of spin, but you can see hogg pushed him back and back and that was too quick to play a shot

  • George did have a nasty flipper. And a pretty handy googly too.

  • Brad Hogg was great. Shame there aren't many videos of him on youtube

  • @TheKing2494 Have a look at the best of Bradd Hogg vid that's nearly five minutes worth of him. He's a good bowler.

  • @someblokecalleddave1 You're a flipper expert. Is this a flipper or not? Thx

  • So this is the famous flipper I read about...Flower was a damn good player of spin but he didn't have a clue of that..

  • That is 1 of the best balls I have ever seen bowled by a spinner unplayable pretty quick to Brad Hogg you gun

  • Onya Georgie!

  • brad hogg was a better bowler then a lot of people think. he took a lot of WC wickets. cheers for the upload. nice vid

  • @cameron9792 agree 100%, people were doubting his ability, he showed them they were wrong, good on him.

  • Take that Andy!
