thank you so much this is what i needed for my websters because i all ways throw my head down for them but all my other flips are the lift and push concept thank you
thanks to epic i bought that shirt (im ninja) cause everyone calls me that in school ^_^ thanks and my webster is alot better when i push off an object but when i do it on the ground in alot lower any tips?
epic great vid...just one question...when exactly do you push?when the back leg is still in the proces of lifting or when the back leg is at its peak?
@TheNextgenparkour No problem dude, I was exactly the same. My knees have been way better since I started Parkour because I learned how to land right :) I did freak out about a pain in my knee at one point, and rested my legs for about a month before a big national jam (trained legs about once a week on low impact stuff and did bodyweight squats etc), but since then all has been good and they've just been getting stronger and stronger - I can do pistols on a rail pretty easy now :)
this is probably the most important tutorial I needed thanks for making it. I can't seem to get this, hence I struggle learning anything other than a flip.
good concept. its easier to do flips and tricks off heights using this now because you can keep most of your momentum going forward while adding height and rotation from lift and push. When i use to do the ground punch method all my body just went straight up and i didn't get any distance and it was harder to tuck.
@Trashboldus yup i tried doin lift nd push at the same time...i dnt gain much height nor rotation...im thinkin you gotta push with both legs and lift the back one...because i tried pushin with the front nd liftin the back...and i rotated..but didn't land....maybe coz im not pushin off of my none good leg, because ima leftie,i can control my left wayy better to let it rotate me over instead of my right,if that makes sense?
Epic did u ace science class? Haha no really tho if u know basic physics this is common sense. Also studying physics and the arts of parkour freerunning etc. helped me alot when I was starting. And do u know if how fast u master things is based on ur body structure flexibility etc.?
Yes I was just in the gym and discovered on my own that doing this made my b-twist go from barely landing it to being able to actually swing thru out of it, and actually landed a hypertwist using this method as well. It's incredible what a difference it can make. Then I came home and found this video. What a coincidence!
Hi, I'm from Brazil and I follow your tutorial for some time, but where I live has no GYM, just grass to train if you have a video that helps fight the fear I am grateful. I learned the front with you, and I'm trying to side. Hug.
yo epic i dont know if i just missed the part or didnt get it but how can you out the lift and push into a two footed take off (e.g. front flip)....? do i lift with the arms and push with the feet or do i actually only push and tuck there??
Hey epic, Im just saying, but wouldnt it be a lift, push, and a throw concept. The lift is your swinging leg the push is your jumping leg and in every single one of your videos you also say to throw your arms down, up, or over your shoulder. I use your concept in a lot of my stunts it helps a lot thanks.
hey lift and push is used only from hop? i want to make my sideflip and learn webster but i cant use that concept... i need realy good split flexibility to can make aerial?
Have you tried doing a hop step? I had the same problem, then I added the hop step and had the ariel instantly. If you want I could make a video tutorial for it?
Nice video. Wushu kicks such as bkick, flying side kick, jump front kicks, jumping crescent inside and outside (whirlwind, 540, lotus, etc) use this principle as well. We just call it "leg swinging" but lift and push sounds more cool. Combined with blocking momentum is how wushu players can get so high. Anyways, nice.
@OMGMrStich training is all up to you. it doesnt really matter what you start with. start with whatever is comfortable. the first thing i ever learned was a... a nooby crescent tornado kick lol
you are never not ready for anything dude just do what you want start of with basic roles and stuff like that get into a gym hell you dont need a gym I started out in my back yard with an old mattress doing shitty flips for weeks on end watching EPIC every chance I got to learn a new move. Get some friends together to learn it together trust me it will be easier with friends.
When did you first ever start learning tricks n' stuff epic? What made you want to start too? Your goal to inspire people, well it's definately inspired me to go and learn some of these moves!
hey Epic1- I've been tumbling daily but can't quite get the "push" part of the lift & push.
Doing a static or running aerial I can feel the power and whip of my driving leg which creates the rotation.. but I feel like my pushing leg doesn't get me any height at all and I end up landing short. Same for front flips, lots of tuck for rotation, but very little height and wind up landing squatting.
I don't know if I'm eating up the flow of energy somewhere, or if its just a strength thing :(
I used to have same prob wif frontflips, as cnt do ariels lol, are you taking off your toes?, i used to do flat footed n get no hieght n now i land em straight up:P
there are alot of ways to get over the fear for back flips you can get a spoter for frount flips get a trampoleen... eh how ever you spell it but a way that works for me is get a friend to practice with that gives alot of people the extra push to just do it also fall on purpose so you wil know it won't hurt if you hesitate
practice on something soft and like what alot of people say mess up and fall on purpos to show yourself it won't hurt on grass i've fell on my head wile trying a back flip without a spoter i hit and got right back up it dident hurt alot since the grass is soft, your afrade of brakeing your neck or something chances of that happening are verry low if it is even possable and frount flip wise the olny thing you'll land on is your knees or bust your ass and even then on grass it dosent hurt
yea true hmm find a friend or get your girlfriend(or boyfriend) someone you'd want to impress if you can't and try with them around if you have friends like mine if you mess up you'd get laughed at lol and that might give you the extra push
costs money olny down side not cheap eather 0.o eh where i live but actualy watch epics video on how to do the "macaco" that would be a good practice for the back handsping whitch leads to the back flip but if you decide to take that way keep doing the back hand spring til you want to do a back flip or you accedently do one lol
hey epic have you heard of some flip call aston half star or aston half start not sure which one it is but if uve heard of anyflip like that im pretty sure that this 'LIFT AND PUSH' concept aplies to it.....
@Knightmon99 this is not a power move.... it's a FLUIDITY move... power is when u punch or put a lotta force into something... this movement is more fluid and control. ^_^
@hmoie3321 common sense mate.... mimic the ones that look easiest... wlak urself through'em, step by step, break'em down in ur mind... and practice, train SMART but perform SAFE
do i need to jump and lift at the same time or set half a second after the push then lift to get height on websters ? and same if u do it from a bench or a step up
@metalpk93 try either of them n see which works best for u... OR... KEEP WATCHING MY SLOMO and u'll see.... and listen to wat I say about shifting momentum and weight
yeah well epic i'm confused 2 @____@ lol hahhahha, if u could make an aerial tutorial that would help and mean alot, so when u mean a butterfly kick but vertical, what does that mean? i hear in an aerial ur body should be parallel @____@ very confusing
By definition an aerial is a cartwheel without placing your hands down meaning that much like a cartwheel your legs and waist pass over your head and shoulder directly above them; while a Butterfly kick your legs follow a similar motion though your waist and shoulder should be close to parrallel with the ground.
a "concept tutorial" is a great concept, because this helps with almost everything, whether it be PK FR XMA or w.e. about 2 months ago i was working on getting my websters better and realized i was just lifting not pushing, so i treated it more like a sideflip and ran lowering my mass, then when i was all the way over my front foot, almost falling foreward i lifted and pushed and had to roll out because i overflipped with all the new height.
@l3xism Hey I have the same question as you! What Im going to do is do it of small ledges and work my way down to grass. Thats how i was practicing my Aerial flip and it was getting better and better. Hope that helps mate. Good Luck ^_^
@DragonWarrior7771 With the trampoline, try it with little to NO BOUNCE and really get control of the tucking motion and be sure u can spot the ground as u come out of it... thne on the ground, walk urself through this lift n push concept, make sure u can come out of the flip easy on the trampoline so u can do it on ground easier. n bam.. all in due time ull be doin it no sweat!
@l3xism With the trampoline, try it with little to NO BOUNCE and really get control of the tucking motion and be sure u can spot the ground as u come out of it... thne on the ground, walk urself through this lift n push concept, make sure u can come out of the flip easy on the trampoline so u can do it on ground easier. n bam.. all in due time ull be doin it no sweat!
i meant brandy... i almost got brandy... i want to learn brandy to backflip... barani to backflip would be also cool... but since im not good at twisting frontflips, even though my frontflip is much better than my aerial, i meant BRANDY :D
@Sayjustnothing hmm... ive tried finding some videos but im confused as to what exactly the brandy is. some vids look loike an arial others look like a 180 front flip?
In all your tricks you jump up with your right foot. And all the other people on youtube do so. But my stronger foot is the left one. I can do bkick right now and some other stuff. My problem is: can i just do all the tricks vice versa or must i train my right leg?
I trained myself in both sides so MOST my tricks I can do both ways. But try to break it downt he way I do but reversed... it may be a bit difficult visual wise but my friend you're on an awesome journey if you train urself on both sides. ^_^
Any chance you can explain how to do scoops as well? The lift and push concept is awesome, but I've seen how things can also be done with scoops and I'd like to know the rights and wrongs. I'm generally a b-boy, but I wanna learn how to add tricking into my style. I'd appreciate the help!!
Scoops are mad easy... I personally don't think they need a tutorial, but if you truly think they need one... if I can fidn the time, I may film a tutorial on it for u.
I'd be way grateful, man. It's kinda odd for me because with Lift and Push, I lift with the right, and push with the left, but it seemed to be the opposite when I tried to do a scoop once. Just wanna make sure I'm doing it right, and how to do it going both ways.
Oh yeah, I know that. I meant in terms of momentum. My left leg becomes my momentum leg with the scoop, as opposed to my right leg during a lift and push. I hope that makes sense.
Hey men i'm a huge follower yours, and this is a nice and great video like any other, anyway the thing is i get injuried time ago and wel,l i missed my jump power and when i tried to get back to acrobatics almost everything looks imposible to me so, if you can tell me some excersices to improve my strenght on my ankles i´ll be so much grateful, and also if i can contact you i would like to speak with you, cheers men.
check out the dogen titanium ankle tutorials, and google search or even youtube search some workouts fro ur calves, hammstrings, and quads... and ankle stretches.
whoa wow i think this is the tutorial that will help me more then any tutorial ive ever watched. that is what i was always missing. i kninda knew bout it from watching your webster tutorial but i couldnt do it right cuz i wasnt doing it right. kyle your aerials kinda suck.. you should work on those. your legs are to bent or something i cant figure out excatly what it is but they just dont look very good.. but i know you arent bout makingthings look perfect just enjoying it but yea...
hahaha my aerials are lazy... if I can do the move, I just do it.... if I wanna make ti look clean I can but... maybe i'll post a vid on ur facebook wall just to show u how clean I can make my aerials MISTER!!!! ^_^
But your right, my aerials in this vid are sloppy... Epic is getting lazy!! -lolz-
lol yea that would be great you should post it on my wall if you ever havethetime to make a video and post in up you know. epic cant get lazy!!!! lol jk im lazy to my flips are gettin pretty lame in the winter grr
in aerials, if you basically keep your chin pointed UP, then the lift and push concept will come naturally. my aerials used to look very fast and whippy-like. it was also hard to land them. once i put in epic's lift and push concept and keeping my chin up, my aerials became effortless and i gained a lot of air.
maybe after a few months of tae kwon do classes or... gymnastics classes??? I'm not sure... I taught myself everything I know so I could save money on learning from someone else.
thank you so much this is what i needed for my websters because i all ways throw my head down for them but all my other flips are the lift and push concept thank you

can someone explain a lift-and-push concept for a cheat gainer? lol :D
ch0wsiub0w 2 years ago
@ch0wsiub0w the cheat gainer is NOT a lift n push technique... for the cheat gainer you must drop your center and then swing.
Epic1 2 years ago
lol, no one asked you to repeat yourself. but good video.

Uhh, I'm new to this and I'm wondering what are difference between a gymnastics aerial and martial arts aerial?
Thanks :D
Wiloturtle11 2 years ago
martial arts aerial is side to side, a gymnastics aerial stays on a straight line taking off forword and landing backwords

would a moon flip be a good example for the lift and push concept?
crazymonkeydancer 2 years ago
@crazymonkeydancer like a moon kick?
Epic1 2 years ago
a "concept tutorial" is a great concept, because this helps with almost everything, whether it be PK FR XMA or w.e. about 2 months ago i was working on getting my websters better and realized i was just lifting not pushing, so i treated it more like a sideflip and ran lowering my mass, then when i was all the way over my front foot, almost falling foreward i lifted and pushed and had to roll out because i overflipped with all the new height.

DragonWarrior7771 2 years ago
What would you recommend learning this on, as I just got sideflips on trampoline, and would like to get on flat? Great tutorial though
l3xism 2 years ago
@l3xism Hey I have the same question as you! What Im going to do is do it of small ledges and work my way down to grass. Thats how i was practicing my Aerial flip and it was getting better and better. Hope that helps mate. Good Luck ^_^
DragonWarrior7771 2 years ago
@DragonWarrior7771 With the trampoline, try it with little to NO BOUNCE and really get control of the tucking motion and be sure u can spot the ground as u come out of it... thne on the ground, walk urself through this lift n push concept, make sure u can come out of the flip easy on the trampoline so u can do it on ground easier. n bam.. all in due time ull be doin it no sweat!

hey this one is also nice... ^^ could you please make a brandy tutorial?
Sayjustnothing 2 years ago
@Sayjustnothing brandy or barani?!?!? Some people get the names mixed up... u mean like a 180 frontflip
Epic1 2 years ago
hey epic...
i meant brandy... i almost got brandy... i want to learn brandy to backflip... barani to backflip would be also cool... but since im not good at twisting frontflips, even though my frontflip is much better than my aerial, i meant BRANDY :D
Sayjustnothing 2 years ago
@Sayjustnothing hmm... ive tried finding some videos but im confused as to what exactly the brandy is. some vids look loike an arial others look like a 180 front flip?
Epic1 2 years ago
Ive always been taught a brandy was a no-handed round-off like the aerial is a no-handed cartwheel
great video has really helped thanks :D

Hey kyle i need help ;)
In all your tricks you jump up with your right foot. And all the other people on youtube do so. But my stronger foot is the left one. I can do bkick right now and some other stuff. My problem is: can i just do all the tricks vice versa or must i train my right leg?
ReAlPro1 2 years ago
I trained myself in both sides so MOST my tricks I can do both ways. But try to break it downt he way I do but reversed... it may be a bit difficult visual wise but my friend you're on an awesome journey if you train urself on both sides. ^_^

Any chance you can explain how to do scoops as well? The lift and push concept is awesome, but I've seen how things can also be done with scoops and I'd like to know the rights and wrongs. I'm generally a b-boy, but I wanna learn how to add tricking into my style. I'd appreciate the help!!
Diziala 2 years ago
Scoops are mad easy... I personally don't think they need a tutorial, but if you truly think they need one... if I can fidn the time, I may film a tutorial on it for u.
Epic1 2 years ago
I'd be way grateful, man. It's kinda odd for me because with Lift and Push, I lift with the right, and push with the left, but it seemed to be the opposite when I tried to do a scoop once. Just wanna make sure I'm doing it right, and how to do it going both ways.
Diziala 2 years ago
@Diziala thats because scoop isnt a lift and push it's a swinging motion
Epic1 2 years ago
Oh yeah, I know that. I meant in terms of momentum. My left leg becomes my momentum leg with the scoop, as opposed to my right leg during a lift and push. I hope that makes sense.

in aerials, if you basically keep your chin pointed UP, then the lift and push concept will come naturally. my aerials used to look very fast and whippy-like. it was also hard to land them. once i put in epic's lift and push concept and keeping my chin up, my aerials became effortless and i gained a lot of air.
