That what McCain said about $5 mil is a joke is beyond obvious. That the Left acts like it isn't shows most of you lot's claims to "intellectual honesty" are an even bigger joke.
After hearing this in context my impression is that McCain threw it out facetiously.
Unfortunate that he did, because that form of humor DOES get distorted in political campaigns. This one certainly was blown up out of the truth zone once Obama's campaign grabbed and distorted it.
Want to talk about rich? Look at how much Obama is SPENDING to win! Does anyone think he's going to be more frugal once he's elected?
jamidwyer, how can you really know that it wasn't a joke until the pastor laughed in shock? also, how can you know that the pastor laughed in shock and not simply because he thought it was funny? in fairness, maybe you are right, but it seems to me that you are stating an assumption as fact.
Clearly you can see at 1:42 even though the angle was on Rick Warren that McCain facial gesture shows he was making a joke. And he says next, "Seriouslly...". Classic example of Obama camp taking McCain's words out of context.
maybe because he specifically said being rich isn't just about income, and then when pressed for a number he purposefully picked a ridiculous one (50 times what the pastor said) and everyone laughed. That is what we call a joke.
He even knew this was gonna be taken out of context. Typical liberal tactics, use half truths, misquotes, and out of context material to make things appear different then they actually are.
Hey folks start at 1:50 to 1:56 and loop it into your brains. He was making a joke with the 5 million number because that is what the Pastor from Saddle Back Church made in book rights last year. If you have brains enough to go see obamas answer to the same question his answer was 25 million which ironically is what the good pastor made in total book rights from his book.
obama's answer was that middle class ends at around $150,000. he's going to raise taxes on people making over $200,000 a year. somebody has to pay for you republicans' war. i suppose you republicans want wal*mart greeter grannies to pay for the whole thing?
i don't know what pastor you're talking about, but is suspect it's something ugly.
Jajedo you are an idiot. How is the question irrelevant? Can you please pose another one that will distinquish between the the differnt classes we have? We are all listening!
Too funny... Obama uses the GOP's own tactics against them and they get all huffy. McCain said it on CNN folks... according to you guys, that makes it fair game and a policy "talking point". Check your history if you don't agree. You're the undisputed Kings and Queens of "out of context". And while I don't think Obama needs it to win, I'm glad he gave you a spoonful-taste of the frustration you've been dumping on us by the bucket for the past 8 years.
McCain gave a good answer. Also it's amazing how many numbers and facts he knows to back up his claims. Obama just always lives in his little do-no-harm hypothetical world.
McCain's is an untreated PTSD victim. The military supports Obama over McCain, 6 to 1. Google "military supporting obama" "open secrets", click on top entry.
Google "doctor phillip butler", click on top entry for what another Vietnam POW has to say about McCain.
Dr. Butler doesn't want McCain anywhere near the nuclear arsenal button.
Jesus fucking Christ. I think I just took a ride on the Talking Points Express to Rhetoricville. He shouldn't dodge the questions and talk so much while doing it otherwise his dentures will fall out.
I'd like to see all state and federal payroll taxes for people making upto $30,000 per year completely eliminated. That would cover a wide swath of college students, single mothers and struggling family people working those Walmart and Best Buy jobs. This is the bulk of the countrys poor to lower-middle-class, and the largest group of consumers. Eliminate these taxes and the economy would explode with growth.
not really. If it indeed takes 5 million for the threshold to be rich, that means 5 million is the poorest of the rich which is ludicrous. It's like he's saying 'woe is me i only make 5 million, millions of people make more than me. Far from the truth, the main point then becomes he does not understand Americans. He's a rich prick feeding off his even richer wife worse than Kerry ever did with the Heines Estate under his wife's belt. We are potentially electing a Vanderbuilt, a Rockafeller.
Don't be silly. McCain was joking. He answered the question by saying he didn't think it needed to be answered because he didn't want to raise anyone's taxes. Whether you agree with that answer or not, it was his answer. The $5 million was a joke to illustrate that he thought the question was irrelevant. He laughed, the other guy laughed, and the audience laughed. I do wish we could see a debate on the real issues and not spend so much of every day debating out of context sound bytes.

I can say McCain got that right?

5,000,000$ a year? less than .01% of america makes over 5,000,000 a year! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

He probably meant it in terms of net worth, not annual income. I didn't vote for McCain, I'm just sayin, this is probably much ado about nothing.
jericomovie 2 years ago
I take that back. I watched it agin. McCain said, "So, I think, if you're just talking about income, how about five million?"
*shrugs*
I tried. Some people can't be helped.

I've been saying somewhat the same thing for years. Also eliminate the loopholes that allow big corporations to pay no taxes at all.

When republicans say "out of context" it just means they can't deal with the true facts right in front of their faces.
