  • people goodness do you not understand the german shepherds who were born to do this love it it people who have never been in a ring with a german shepherd have no room to talk bad becuase i can tell you i handle german shepherds and they love what they are doing and they dont have health issues at all they are beutiful and loving esp. the ones in the ring i can tell you that one

  • I love my GSD she is the most perfect dog ever and she is half american bloodline and half German and she has no slanted back or anything. When I look at the older GSD I'm like."Hey, thats my dog."and i got her from Olympia Kennels in Chester NH. If you want to get a GSD get one there because they don't have have slanted backs like these. He's also a great trainer.HEHE..But GSD's like these are wrong they are made for work not this , but otherwise are a great breed. see ya bye...

  • I have a huge geman line german shepherd (69cm to the shoulders, he's very stocky, but at the same time elegant), he's beauriful (he's black and brown but he looks like a wolf), brave, super obedient and amazingly loyal. He's the best dog I've ever had and I think it will be the best dog I will ever have. He's my guardian and my best friend, he'd take a bullet for me.

  • Thats fuckin sad.. These dogs are made for work not this crap

  • @KX4LifeMX Yep, and as usual the stupid Americans have done the most to pervert the breed with that ridiculous (should be outlawed) slope to the hind. Hey, they allow and often have their cats de-clawed too. If you want to find a German Shepard dog in it's original incarnation look to Europe!

  • @OdinsCloud Because European show lines are SO much better. /sarcasm

What with their same 90 degree angulation less the length in stifle that the American show lines have and their hideous roached backs and Rottweiler-like heads.

  • it should be illegal to purposely breed dogs to have health problems just to make them look a specific way. When did this "style" become popular anyway? so weird and sick!

  • What I find interesting, are those who say breeders are destroying something that nature created. Nature did not create the GSD, breeders did, and not that long ago. (1899) Without breeders, there would be no GSD, no Golden Retriever, and no boxers to begin with. People want a dog that can bring them a duck, pull a cart, protect them, sit on a lap, kill rats or whatever task is at hand, all are based on the wolf, and there is no right or wrong, only opinions.

  • @65champagne1 hey, i like that no one agrees with your opinion, where as my opinion just repeats others on here.. hey... maybe that means your wrong?

  • @16shipton Dear Sir, last time I checked, just because my opinion does not repeat (whatever that means), does not mean I am wrong. Maybe another hypothesis that you might explore is that in life there are leaders, and there are followers and usually more of the latter.

  • @65champagne1 I think there is definitely a wrong way to breed a dog. Breeding a dog to look a certain way that interferes with the health of the dog should be considered "wrong" imo. It is cruelty.

  • @ljp7c4 This is a well thought out comment. I agree in concept, when it comes to health, but it could be argued that large breeds have significantly more hip problems, therefore only small dogs should breed. If you own a dog, not a wolf, then you have contributed what you suggest is the problem. (breeding a dog to look a certain way).

  • @65champagne1 there's definitely a happy medium in there somewhere!

  • Stacking the dogs like that just doesn't look natural at all! And it DOES not look good. At all! Wake up breeders! A GSD looks good when its WORKING!

  • @chri11ejonsson I agree! The American speciality show dogs appearance is the result of what the judges have liked over the years. The breeders simply want their dogs to attain "Champion" rating and follow the judges opinion of what is best. The same thing happens in Germany. Breeders want to have puppies that will look like the Sieger. The result of breeding for a shorter back in Germany resulted in the "roach" back. Neither is correct! Dogs of the 50s and 60s meet the standard!

  • @SADIETXCLAUS I should have said look at the GSDs from the 40s and 50s.

  • oh great,fat people in chairs,watching handlers prance around a ring with their nervous,bat-eared,hock walking,wannbe gsd's...get a life!

  • gorgeous dogs, disgusting video... id like to see what would happen if we bred babies to stand like that, oh but im just being stupid now arent i?

  • @16shipton Yes.

  • @65champagne1why am i being stupid then?

  • OMG shut the *ucking song off

  • best dogs ever!

  • Best dog in the world

  • couldnt u just keep them the same?! i agree the back slope looks good but these are animals , we dont choose how they look.

  • @zanebgsd You are right!!!

  • @ppppp175 yea now they are trying to mess up rottweilers i keep seeing more and more with flat faces they arent supose to look that way but i keep seeing show rottweilers with it... its disgusting and sad.

  • GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE BREED IS THE POLICE DOGS STRONG HIND LEGS GOOD BONES AND ATHLETIC

  • Wow, these are almost a seperate breed from the GSD's you see in the German Breed Surveys. These dogs look almost like short haired collies with squatted back ends.

  • disgusting if the gds was meant to have a angled slopped back like a hyena they would be naturally born like it , like the hyena is , breeders have ruined these dog and what for fir fashion , shame on u breeders

  • its sad to see a shepherd with a sloped back.

  • its the show people that have ruined this dog....

  • best breeds

  • whats wrong with show dogs?

dont people teach dog tricks why is it bad to show off some tricks?

  • @GodleeisBeasT its not the fact that they show off tricks its bad because german shepherds with an angled back get hip displacement

  • @GodleeisBeasT Take for example the english bulldog notice how there faces are all flat..... breeders, breed them like this on purpose and it makes it more difficult for the dog to breath and need surgery to fix it.. same goes for the gsd notice the dog's back they look somewhat like hyenas then soon they will need surgery to fix that and they wont live a happy life. :(

  • @ppppp175 thats just not right :(

  • aww shepherds loving animals like a protection of life

  • Some American GSD really are too angulated at the rear, most are not however.

It does take rear angulation that matches the front to have the longest stride and easiest gait. They can trot at higher speed without galloping.

I love my American GSD. She has beatiful movement and very sound body and a beautiful head. She is not shy for a pet that has some protective utility. She does not have to work for a living, as she is a pet.

  • @woodensurfer

I agree my American GSD is beautiful and hips/elbows are OFA certified as Excellent and she has a slight rear angulation. She has an amazing trot to watch because her movement is fluid and looks effortless. Watching her videos in slow motion, you can see she gets airborne at some point in a gait cycle. The best thing I like about her is her personality and good temperament. She does not have to enter shows, breed, or work--but to just be my friend to love and live with.

  • I much prefer the straight topline of the American line than the roach back of the German line that looks deformed.

I suppose a mild roach is not bad, some german line really has grotesque backs.

Some German lines are very nice looking too.

I was told that the reason for the roached back is to compensate for age so that older dogs don't have sagging back.

A strong back should not sag with age, except when very old, I suppose.

  • The American line has the best appearance, IMO. Very sound body structure in terms of soundness of movement

Rear angulation can be too extreme for some but not most in show.

Not every GSD owner is interested in working ability.

Don't work into a home with an American GSD and expect it to be shy.

American GSD can be very good at obedience training.

Different stroke for different folks, GSD owners.

It is laso possible to look both types, as I do, for different reasons

  • i thought i would take my German line GSD in some conformation classes, just to learn. HA! She was structurally correct an therefore couldnt stack like an american bred GSD. It made me realize just how jacked up we have made these beautiful animals. Sidenote, I had repeated offers at schutzhund training of people wanting to buy her as she had correct, stable tempermant, structure, and intense drive!

  • merda

  • Is that a dog or frog?

  • best dogs ever

  • @teddybear4422 yeah they are

  • 0:35 You can see the dog show fear at the judges approach. I'll take my GSD's from behind the Iron Curtain, thanks.

  • @YourSkankyMom That is so true. Whenever the judge approaches they move their ears down and like a coward go behind their owners.

  • I love 2:26. It looks like a true GSD. Its back is not overly curved. I'm happy to see at least 1 dog in that vid. that is actually looking good.

  • speaking for all shepherd dogs because few of us can speak English...I've been blessed to have this dog's heart in a human body...Shawn Colvin. We loyal dogs know you and we love you.

  • Nice dogs but I wish they were breed to work and not just for the look.

  • best dogs

  • I have noticed the Zamp dog lines have a weak hock. The West German lines also have the funny looking roach. Some move like Black Labs. Take a look at the older lines of GSDs from Germany from the 1970s and older. The older lines look like the American lines now. The true working dogs are from the old eastern block Warsaw pact countries.

  • @rhinomn Very true....Czech GSDs are among the best working dogs in the world and are usually a wolf gray in coat color. Purely functional dogs not bred to be "pretty."

  • American exhibitors and breeders of German Shepherds have virtually destroyed a magnificent breed of dog. What ever possessed them to think that severe angulation of the rear legs coupled with a sloping back-line was a good thing? It has produced dysfunctional dogs with weak hips. Show specimen GSDs in the US look like freaks. You need Euro stock to find a good representative of the breed. No wonder police and the military are turning to the Belgian Malinois and abandoning the American GSD.

  • @JackKangaroo1 There are still a few good breeders who breed working lines and not show lines but not many unfortunately.

  • Is it just me or do these beautiful dogs look like they're suffering? My GSD is 5 years old and looks nothing like these here in the video, his back is almost straight all the way through, and he has a muscular 105 lbs body...but i guess it comes with not giving my dog a treat every time he does something he really doesn't enjoy...and what good are dog shows anyway? Do people really get off of saying " My dog is better than yours"...

  • @YouNeedaRide I believe that the 'show crowd' has done more harm to purebred dogs than any other single problem. In Europe show dogs must also prove their working ability through various working trials. In America showing dogs is nothing more than a beauty pageant with the shower/breeders focusing upon a look based purely upon fad rather than function. Very few show GSDs, for instance, could ever function as any type of working animal. They are neither physically nor mentally fit to do so.

  • This is a really sad thing these dogs have really changed over the years. Djdue25 not all american GSD are slanted but a lot are and yes it is really sad. Im just happy to have a working GSD and Its my partner. Im just trying to learn how to stack it the RIGHT way its not right how they have changed.

  • Sorry not very impressive. whats with the one with the patch of white on his chest? Americans plaes stop breeding these line and let allow the Germans to bring this breed back.

  • These "show shepards" have the over-angulated back, and narrow chest typical of the ruined American version of this breed. Their job is not to trot around looking silly. Their job is to be a working dog, not a refined "pretty" dog.

  • nice looking shephred

  • yeah dogs with deformed backs

  • you are deformed head

  • listen sTupid fak i have GS the reason why is not accepted to compete is becouse he is big massive and doesnt have broken back...GS as breed is totaly destroyed by ridiclous standards

  • It is not true that these dogs will have health problems by middle age. For those that are not aware, breeders do extensive checks on hips and breed those with the best hips. People who breed random regular shepherds, rarely do hip certifications as the responsible breeders do. I have seen some that have problems buy you people talk like they all will and THAT is just not true. They are wonderful, strong, healthy dogs.

  • The german showline dogs and the DDR line dogs are the best in my eyes. They have working ability & match the conformation needs. They also have few health problems.

The American Showline & the so called Alsation that is from the KC are pathetic. Overexxagerted, disease ridden, weaker backs than a dislocated spine & no working ability whatsoever as their nerves are too weak.

  • @wolfbait9...I agree that there are some breeders who do OFA or PennHip testing. But until the AKC makes an "Excellent" hip rating a requirement to compete, then the breed will continue to be plagued by this congenital ailment. I am not saying that the AKC and AKC breeders do not care about the health of their animals, but the AKC standard is based upon appearance only. Consequently, they have never met a breed that they cannot ruin.

  • gsd's are ment and bred to work and the back should be stright(ish) the american breed has been bred to show the working side has been bred out of them very sad i own 2 gsd's and there from working lines

  • Sick! they are meant to be a dog not a frog!!!!

  • You breeder are all dog murderer.

  • 0:17

a dumb thing to do to a dog.

  • i think that in the end their back legs wont exist any more........it's freaky that kind of dog-frog

  • These American lines are a poor representation of the breed. The GSD conforms to both an anatomical and working standard. The American lines are a totally different breed. Unfortunately persons who are not familiar with what a German Sieger looks / works like discard the breed when seeing these poor AKC standard dogs.

  • @djude25 I agree with you! Crooked backs, poor hip angulation, narrow chest, and a male dog that looks feminine. this is the American Shepard, a separate breed from the German Shepard

  • @djude25 You speak of US show lines. There are plenty of US working line kennels that breed for performance and working drive and sound structure.

  • @djude25 agreed, but the a good deal of the German Showlines aren't any better. : ( not to mention the the total lack of variety in the gene pool. Neither the extreme American slant or the German Roaching seen in the show lines are apart of this breeds standard.

  • @djude25

Any show dog- even the European lines- is a misrepresentation of the breed.

The dog was meant to be a worker, and a sloped back- even a slightly sloped back- has no practical utility and impairs the dog's agility. If you look at pictures of the original German shepherds, they are all much smaller than the show lines and with perfectly horizontal backs.

  • These dogs are happy at the moment, but being that way with the week hind limbs and curved back is not right (may I say deformed through breeding) will not live out a normal happy life, I adopted a GSD a yr ago and happy to say she has a staight back and good posture. I would love to have another GSD in the future from a pup but will not support this breeding, so called show dog, breed!!

  • i have a black german sheperd mix witha wolf

  • BUY THE DOG NOT THE FKING SHOW FROG

  • Your ignorance shows that someone like you probably shouldn't even own a dog. "Showing" a dog is actually building a ridiculously strong bond between you and the animal. Buying a dog to loaf around your house and be attached to a run outside as its form of exercise is a serious injustice to the dog. Get a clue.

  • that was @ regelmufasa btw

  • I wonder what would happen if someone didn't stack their GSD in this way and entered the ring?

  • ive got the old fashion kind of german shepard the rin tin tin kind. they are the best cuz they have no geneticly mutated spines or over sized back.

  • You are completely right and I've been saying this for ages. These are no german shepherds, these are something else. They have bad backs and they are NOT good looking. A real german shepherd should have a strong back and a very agile body.

  • It All depends on what you like. There are so many variations(American , German , Czech , Euro , DDR , just to name a few) in the German Shepherd Dog and each "type" has their own charteristics. Ive owned both American and Euro lines and theyre both great. I think the Euro ones are bigger but shed way less. Either way you cant go wrong. German Shepherds are amazing animals

  • all these poor dogs are deformed...the spine is so prounounced and curved..they will all be suffering by middle age..myself...i have the most gorgeous..long hair sheperd..his back..is what i call an ironing board back..his front and hind..are the same length..my dog is a head turner..no papers..or pedigree..but at a recent gog show..all onlookers stated my dog "major"..was the eye candy of the whole show..needless to say..in the ring he didnt even get a second look..judges want deformed dogs

  • I currently have a DDR German Shepherd (check my vid) And Ive owned american gsd's before as well. Each type has its own benefits. I think prospective owners just need to do research and get the type they like. Euro lines tend to be way bigger. My pup @ 1yrs old is already 20 lbs heaveier than my Amer ever was. Either way...youre getting an awesome breed of dog.

  • i dont realy agree with breeding american show would u agree? and yeh euro a second biggest lines old english are the biggest

  • I was really surprized to see the West German Showline GSDs in with the AmBreds. May as well have been comparing different species. European dogs don't generally do well at AKC events.

  • Overstretched and overangulated, makes for weak backs, surprised to see a black dog in line up, the breed is a little better that it was say 15 years ago, but not a patch on what they were like pre 1970's

  • Any big dog is likely to have hip dysplasia so it doesnt really matter its a GS

  • i'm agreed whit whiteluohan poor quality german shepherd look at german shepherds from Europa

  • GS are the best dogs... ther so coool.. and wot do u mean they will hav so many helth promblems in da future

  • i can't beleive people breed these dogs they will have so many helth problems in the future

  • If a dog finds a loving owner then they will make sure that their pet has the best veterinary care and a healthy diet. If I ever got a German Shepherd then I'd definitely take care of him & play with him...since I can't do that right now I'm not taking on the responsibility. Others should do the same.

  • Beautiful video! I also looked at another video comparing the changes made to the breed, German and American...maybe some of you big mouths should view it before you you make ignorant comments. To the maker of this video, wonderful job!

  • Don't bother, there are so many good breeders who will only breed dogs with normal or better hips. Stick with them.

  • It's disgusting what breeders have done to german shepherd's hind legs. I am glad mine is from a working line with normal hips. The AKC needs to urgently change the standard so breeders get back the original image for this working dog breed.

  • I agree. Half of those dogs probably couldn't even do what a normal working dog can do because of their legs. But people will keep paying $3000 for their deformed dogs.

  • I'm sorry you feel that way...

The German Shepherd has traditionally been in the top three breeds for incidents of hip dysplasia in the past. But with the advent of OFA and breeders not breeding without certification, we are now down to 37th of all breeds in incidents of dysplasia. So the breed has dramatically improved to the benefit of both the transition of power and the comfort of the dog. I am sorry that you disapprove. By the way, AKC does not set standards, the breed club does.

  • Ya now i think you guys are all missing the point of this video . Who care's how they were bread. Or what color they are or any thing like this . . I think this video is to just show there love for there German shepherd. I have had bad breeds and good breeds in German shepherd. but no matter what there the smartest dog u can ever have. FACT

  • Um, it's spelled bred, not bread as in the food. And it is not fact, it's opinion.

  • "Stacking" just means "posing" -- you can "pose" yourself or your dog any old way. What is unfortunate here is that a "pose" (stack) that was meant to show the dog "ready to spring" has been stylized and emphasized and even bred for, so that now to anyone not involved in GSD breeding it makes the dog look weak and bizarre. Showing as an end in itself seems to lead to an unhealthy over-emphasis on otherwise irrelevant physical aspects, like that stylish crouch, which was once just a pose.

  • Why are the dog shows and the AKC persistant in ruining these beautiful animals. Stacking or low backs was never "a standard" for this breed and has had devasting effects to the US bloodline. Max von Stephantz has flipped in his grave numerous times because of how this breed has bastardized.

  • Actually to be fair some people just over stretch the back leg but if you stack it short and the hock is a perfect right angle you'll see most of them have a level topline but they must have a small gradual slope to get the drive this breed needs to move as long and as smooth as the standard says.

  • Not sure where you heard THAT. But that is false.

  • what a waste of a dog. Poorly bred i.e. NOT FOR WORK and not functional i.e. Can't run.

  • are you stupid or just ignorant? there is a reason german shepherds are used by military police and state police. smart, strong, beautifully intimidating.

  • haha dude your Funny!

The dogs the Military and Police use are NOT these dogs, they are WORKING LINE German Shepherds and if you don't know what that is you should not be breeding!

In any case the decline of the GSD is such that forces are now buying Malinois and Dutch Shepherds instead of GSD and it is the fault of Show line breeders for reducing the stock to such a piss poor standard! FACT!

  • yep thats right! ruining a great breed with there 'idea' of the perfect looking dog! Police and Military working dogs are bread for for ability! I belive Sheps are still the most used in regards to MWD's but yeah its true some police forces and services are changing the breed used!

  • american gsd are bred very differnt to english and dutch . i dont find any of these pretty . and there bred slop backed not good for the hips . xxxxx good luck to all . xx

  • LOL

Utility is the true criterion of beauty!

These dogs can not work. These are rabbits. Red and black giant rabbits.

    :)

  • 0_0 OMG some are free stacking, my worst nightmare :P

I can do it it's just to risky...I perfer to hand stack my GSD's.

Yes some of these dogs have a sloping topline but not as bad as it could be, I've seen worse.

  • With their their sloping backs these poor dogs can't even run properly. Shame on all those breeders who make cripples out of these beautiful dogs.

  • .... I sloping backs are part of the breed standard.

  • But why???

There is no reason for it.

It is neither pretty nor useful.

    The contrary is the case.

  • I dunno really. I don't care for sloping backs either. But I don't think it impedes their ability to run..

  • The "sloping back" Is caused by angulation in the hindquarter. All GSDs should and do do it. The degree to which they "slope" is dependent upon the individual dog and the LINES of that dog.

A working line dog will not be as angulated as an American or German Showline.

  • I just cannot understand why these showline dogs are being bred in general and I really doubt that I will find out here

  • nice pure gsd

  • If it is gated area, then go all out and get a Caucasian Ovcharka. My uncle always has had COs and there are the best guarding/protecting dogs that I have had any experience.

there are buch of videos on youtube about them.

  • i have about 7.5 acres and want a guard dog..i have a small jack Russell at moment but want to get a guard dog.. which would you prefer and you think will suit me and my property ???? ROTTWEILER OR GERMAN SHEPHERD .. id like to hear your opinion ... im in Australia by the way ..cheer mate.

  • German Shepherd

    Great dog :)

  • Rottweiler every time. They have a stronger bite and were bred for guarding. German shepherds were bred for protecting. each dogs were obvious bred for more than the things I listed.. I have nothing against german shepherds there awesome dogs very smart. but over all i would say a rottweiler is more dedicated to guarding.

  • German shepherd dude.

  • rottweiler i would suggest they are really fun but having 7 acres i would get a gsd remember do your research

btw if you want a really good top of the line gsd (also very expensive) you can go to harrison k9

the prices of their dogs average about $35,000 and i think they ship world wide but you would have to call have fun with your new friend!

  • Sounds like a great way to waste your money. There are plenty of perfect lines that would go for maybe 10% of that price. $35,000 is just a branding scam.

  • yeah im not promoting the company but its mostly for really rich people that dont want to have to take the time training the dog and other lazy rich people stuff for me personally i would probably get one from a decent breeder and train it from there :) cheers

  • meh, american dogs.... if i showed a gsd like that with all the white patches over in australia id come last everytime! Its a breed fault over here you know.........

  • I love the GSD! My favorite breed ever! Ultimate guard dogs, best companions, loyal, awesome!

  • they are all champions they are just a awesome dog overall. they aim to please you in every way.

  • i love gsd there my fav breed. i think they stack them that way to show the body setting but idk

  • I agree (the last sentence). If I saw the dog at 2:29 's head only, I would think he is a bitch.

  • Does anyone know why they stack GSDs like that?

  • another nice job placing music to the beautiful dogs at this specialty!!!! Cant wait for our next specialty!!! Nice job!!!

  • That's not true. There are extremes in every line. The Americans can go overangulated in the rear, German Showlines have that god awful roach, and working lines can be far too extreme in drive.

There are also plenty of German dogs with bought titles.

  • the first german shepered that is at the begining looks like my old german shepered tiger i miss him and the police had and he died 3 days ago

  • Sorry for your loss! Get another from German Shepherd Rescue and become a dad or a mum again! Do it soon! Hope you one day get over your loss!

    Regards and respect to you!

  • Just Beautiful.

  • I have 2 german shephards. One is 5 years and one is one year. they are the best dogs in the world!

  • I love German shepherds so much. I was going to buy one but parents dont want one. guess Ill have to move out if I want one .these dogs are so beautiful and Im sure are a lot of fun to have. Its like I wanna reach through my computer screen and pet it .

  • Do you have a clue why are they over angulated?

  • omg that shepard is beautiful at 0:08

  • I really love your video and have added it to my favorites.

  • However, I have to say that people are just about nearly ruining the breed, generation by generation, with their extreme angulations. It's not right. It even looks painful in some scenarios. GSD's are beautiful dogs AS LONG AS they don't have the bad rear angulations that make it look like they have no back at all.

  • i have to totally agree with you!!! show line breeders are getting real bad about this. akc is finallly seeing this though from the sound of it.i hope they can stop it before people think the "perfect" gsd is one with their butt on the ground when stacking.

  • Beautiful dogs! I'm a big fan of German Shepherds, I love them. They're very beautiful dogs, both German lines and American lines. Notice that many GSD's from German lines have "Banana backs" while many GSD's from American lines have sloping backs. People may be bashing in one of the lines because of their personal topline preference, or maybe for another reason, but they're all beautiful dogs.

  • They're so beautiful! I grew up with German Shepherds my entire life, they're such loyal dogs. My latest dog won an obedience award.

  • I have a purebred German Sheppard. Her name is Sally and she is 11 months old and allready weighs about 80 lbs.If a burgler broke into our house she would either lick him to death or hide under the table.(sigh).Still,she has a real easy going personality and that works well for my family

  • this is not the german shepherd dog...is the american show line...they cand do anything...so sad to see this beautiful breed turned into something ugly like this...poor dogs

  • Upity crowd?

I see quite a few people out there that I know personally (Ken, Julie...) and upity...not the words I's use. Sounds like someone looking from the outside in.

In my over 30 years of working with these dogs I've found that the American GSD's are in whole a healther breed than in years past structurally and mentally.

    Lovely video and great examples.

Kudo's to whomever did this and thank you!

  • great !

  • MelloJ01, I second everything you've said. Along with the structural changes seen in the breed... there are temperament changes, too. The American showline GSDs are more neurotic than ever before. It's absolutely criminal what is happening. This breed should be able to work! With the combination of structural issues and weak temperaments, the breed has gone down hill. What a shame. Even the German showline dogs are being ruined.

  • Looking at these dogs it's really sure to me that american gsd's are completely another breed. They are nothing like GERMAN shepherd dogs.

Are these supposed to be working dogs?

  • German Shepherds are a herding breed not working.

My girl is built like these dogs and she can herd all day long. She flys like the wind with a nice easy loping gate and she never tires.

  • Have you ever read the breed's history?

GSD's are made multipurpose working dogs since day one. von Stephanitz understood that the breed wouldn't have a future if the dog would be just a herding dog. The goal was to create a breed with multiple uses, for this, he created Schutzhund, first trial was held on 1901.

When speaking of working dog structure and movement of a herding dog, I'd say that border collies, the true herding dogs, do not resemble at all these.. ..things.

  • lmao! what a bunch of upity clowns... I'v owned gs's all my life... Never would I breed a dog to be like this!! German Shepherds are strong and intelligent breeds, AND were never meant for this tpye of moching display of weakness....

  • I agree, not one of these dogs looked as it had a pair of balls.

  • your a fuckin retared these german shephereds are the preetyest thing i ever saw plus i'm getting one....so shut the fuck up

  • Also, if you look at the pasterns of a working, American show, or German show line shepherd, you will find that they are all similarly structured, and jut forward(for lack of a better term?). Yes, American show lines have long legs and German show lines have ugly backs. But saying that they are in pain is completely untrue and frankly I was just sick of hearing that.. that is why I responded to the negative comments here..

  • You're right, I meant to say most are tested for E/HD. The flying trot is not necessarily because of a long stifle, but because of the angles of the dog, mainly the shoulder angle, and the height of the withers and how it flows into the back of the dog. As for pastern problems, the GSD is not the only dog predisposed to these conditions. Many breeds can get it and with good nutrition can overcome it in some cases.

  • These dogs have unbelievably strong backs, you dont know what you are talking about, most are hip certified and do not have problems....

  • es sorprendente como una raza tan especial nos llena tanto, su asombrosa inteligencia y sin igual fidelidad; realmente me siento orgulloso de ser parte de los amantes del pastor alemán, aparte que soy dueño de uno...........
