Great video - I was part of the parade this year with the RCN - the support we recieved all the way round was phenomenal. However, i do think the commercial aspect could be toned down - and maybe just everyday gay people who dont belong to any of the organisations taking part should be allowerd to march too - lets get it back to the spirit with which the march was started :-)
I think 'commercialism' and the grass roots reasons for starting pride can go hand in hand. If you make it less commercial it will attract less attention and fewer people, if that happens, less of the public will be aware of the issues pride tries to raise.
You can still have a spectacular parade and highlight the 'real' issues , it's a fine line , but it can be done.
Great video, but how can you say there are "too many walkers"? don't you know that the original pride march began with only walkers? Some of us don't have the option of being part of a float. Pride was never a commercial parade like it has become today until recently. I agree though it was rather dis-jointed this year, I think that's to do with it being longer and because of all the roadworks in the city centre.
I understand the politics behind the 2 factions in pride, those like yourself, that feel pride has been 'hi-jacked ' by profiteers ( my own politics support your view ), but , I do feel the public parade side of the event can still be 'commercial' whilst still remain true to it's roots.
More floats and investment from those that are raking in the money, just some fine tuning needed.
