  • I played this so much I got attached to all the characters they mention in the diary. I also got obsesssed with the Red Barron. Man, this game was an absolute gem.

  • Played it till my quick shot broke. Amazing game absolutely!!!

  • Oh, I loved this game! Always ended up dead because of AA-fire or mid air collisions though :)

  • man, i loved this game. I remember one mission it was me v 9, i got most of them before they put me out of the skies, but on the way down I got the last of them, and survived the landing, only to die a few missions later in a mid-air collision.

  • Ahhhh Can't wait for the ipad version Cinemaware are making!!!!

  • Incredible game! Good old Cinemaware where did you go?

I remember this is one of the early games where you could improve your pilot with successful missions. Character development made it better. Once you got your stamina to IRON MAN you would not die the first time you crashed your plane but your stamina would go down.

    The music was fantastic too!

  • @ctanyol ... Good old Cinemaware didn't go anywhere, they are still here:

    wxx(dot)cinemaware(dot)com

Go to the Archives for some free games. Like many other retro Amiga developers they are all re-releasing their games on Ipad2 etc. I have been asked to be a game tester for Hybris on the Ipad2 can't wait for that.I love Cinemaware's Amiga Graphics, you knew straight away from the quality that its Cinemaware. Basketball games and baseball games and the awesome It Came From The Desert etc.

  • I got to be so good at this that I used to give my flight mates a good spray of bullets right at the start of the mission, so the Huns would take them down easier, leaving me to shoot them all down at my ease. Good old Farrah never worked it out, bless him.

  • THE game. I remember encountering 10 enemy planes with 5 of us. Bang, bang and my four allies went down and my plane was full with holes. Yes, I landed it. I was young, not stupid.

  • yea we played this loads, did acid once and ended up playing this and listening to quadraphonia for hours. i was 15, oops.

  • Amazing Game !! One of the Best !! Good old Amiga Days !::))))

  • I got one character through about 100 odd missions, then he bought the big one......I was about 11 at the time, and was proper gutted!!!!

  • This was a fantastic game! I remember one mission where my two wing men were shot down but I still managed to take down five hun fighters with one gun shot out!

  • I PLAYED DAYS THIS AMAZING GAME ONE OF THE BEST EVER.

  • this sure brings back memorys, man what a game :)

  • omg i played that game on a PC in school back then,no instruments what so ever, had to look where the head is turning to find your enemies, imagine the flight path and hold ahead of him to get some decent hits, what a cool game it was, loved it

  • the best game ever...they dont make em like this anymore

  • awesome game...most enjoyable flight game ive ever played.

  • NEVER bank left when your guy is looking right... that put the enemy directly behind you, not a good thing. ;)

Awesome game though, had great music and story line to it... one of my all time favourites.

  • WINGS!!

I played this game so hard and for so long that my 3"5 drive seemingly died from too many disk swaps.

  • I bought an Amiga because of this game. :)

  • amiga was the best...best days of my life ...only swore when I got that red software guru error

  • Fantastic game. But my poor Amiga was struggling with the grapich with many planes on the screen. And it was difficult to see where the enemies were.

  • Wow what a fantastic game!

I ve never seen it before!

  • TOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOP..

  • I swear to God I was yelling "PULL UP" as you hit the ground there

  • My mint condition, fully working Amiga 4000 040 will be appearing on eBay in the next few days. Complete with SVGA monitor, keyboard, mouse, joystick, and loads of software. Happy bidding.

  • Best flight sim ever!

  • The frustrating thing about this game is how it wrote to the same floppy discs as the program was installed on i.e. there wasn't the option to save to another disc. Ended up corrupting my program discs, and the backup copy :-(

  • @NJJ77 Happened to me with Populous I... It was a shame.

  • This game was AWESOME. I played it when i was 5 years old, right in 1990. Awesome :D

  • Played this game for hours and also wings of fury was an amiga gold game, i still own an amiga in the loft somewhere, superfrog, prince of persia omg the list is endless.

  • i always say cheating is bad

but not for ORCA THE KILLER TOMATO LOL

  • though i had made my mark so had the boche

  • Nice sounds effects.

  • @cypress1337

Yep the best are if someone hits your plane xDDD

  • i finished this game slowly in one year. it really takes a lot of time, you have to save missions after complete each level so if you fail and die on next mission you can recover the previous stage. Cinemaware has been always best game publisher on amiga computer. download amiga emulator winuae to play this game on a pc. need help let me know.

  • Loved all the Cinemaware games!

  • @thebes56 yeahhhhhh! great!

  • I did fairly well on this, the key to it was when you got shot and your engines smoked you needed to ditch level...... Lt Col Dunn 89 kills ;-)

  • bellissimo

  • This game was awsome i was like 10 an must have spent 30+ hours over the weekend playing it i loved the dogfights 4 of you fighting say 15 of them. anyone else notice when you had wingmen they didnt last 3 mins haha great days!

  • @Richxcore for got to put my best stats on it was something like 142 missions an 122/25 kills an i was 10 an this wasnt an easy game to master :P

  • good old times!great game!!!

  • This game is the only Flight simulator i have enjoyed. No starting, no landing, no flaps, no using every key on keyboard to make it fly, no hours of stydy manual just to get into air.

Only the joy of shooting fokkers out of the sky.

The in-game diary was also something that gave this game alot of character. really nice.

  • Gib Vorhalt, Junge, außerdem bist du für Dog-Fight viel zu schnell, ach, jetzt stürzt er ab, geschieht ihm recht.

  • Are there any games like this these days?

I spent hours on this game, hated the strafing and bombing runs but the cockpit missions were incredible.

It was great seeing my name down there as took out the entire squadren singlehandedly.

This would be a fantastic Xbox360 Live game.

  • They have made the remake of Monkey Island. I think it would be good to see the remake of Wings as well

  • I'm a sitting duck up here!

  • Oh What a great game this was, the tension! and the sense of achievement after gunning down yet another clan of germans single handedly!...

  • Oh how i miss this game! back in the early 90's on my A600, each day gave another diary entry and sometimes even when smoking you could land her, heart stopping moments! even worse when she barrel rolls uncontrollably only ever set her down once when it did that!

AMAZING Game, the strafe missions, the thrill of those german planes going down in smoke!

    thanks for the memories!

  • I remember when i was younger I used to play this a lot and then girls would come and knock on my door and ask me out and I was like "not now, i'm playing wings..."

  • @opmdevil

And then you woke up? hehe

  • This game was great. I played it back in the early 90s. Anytime I would die I would reboot the computer. I finished the game with the same character as a Lt. Colonel.

  • Great game. Pity you didn't include the funeral. I've never seen a more sad sight than that on any computer game.

The sound effects are amazing, by the way. The sound of going down, the impact with the ground, etc..

  • @RedneckkRudy And a cross with your name on it :D

  • oh i loved this so much and i still do!

  • Przeszedłem te gre

  • ja nie ale byłem już na chyba 200 setnej misji aż w końcu dałem sobie spokój :)

  • "Crash n burn, huh Mav'?"

  • i used to play this game when i was young on the Amiga 500.

    Is there a pc version?

  • Ah, this was my favorite game.. My record was over 410 confirmed kills, 4 VC's and 2-3 of all the other medals.

I used to play this ALL day back in the day, on my amiga 500 then on my blizzard upgraded 1200/1200+.

Brilliant - the GBA version does not do this justice!

BTW, if you reset just before you die, you don't need to restart from newbie level :D

  • I loved this game, I flew hundereds of missions and never got killed it was immense :D

  • Ah nostalgia... this was one of my favorite games. I sitll miss it :-)

  • protip: shoot down own planes to get more frags

  • u can play this game on pc. go for amiga emulator: winUAE. thandownload and wings.adf 1 nad 2 disks.

  • Very immersive for it's time! I loved this game!! My Dad and I have been trying to remember the name of it for weeks. Thanks for posting this!

  • how do you get this game its awesome i loved it

  • Get WinUAE.

    Download the Kickstart ROMs.

    Download the Wings ADFs.

    Load the ADFs into WinUAE.

    Play the game.

  • i have winuae 2.0.1 downloaded. what are kickstart roms?

    i have found the ADF's.

    what should i do? thanks!

  • Kickstart ROMs are the "mind" of the Amiga; they control the processors and coordinate them to accomplish tasks. They come in three iterations: 1.x, 2.x, and 3.x. Each can run most Amiga programs, but some programs are only compatible with one Kickstart version.

As Cloanto currently sells them in its Amigia Forever emulation package, it's illegal to download them - but I'll email them to you anyway. Send me a private message with your email address, and I'll email them to you.

  • that was one of my absolute fav-games on amiga!! i played it for weeks. awesome upload mingo870!!

    5 stars°

  • Damn...that plane crashed quick, lol...my favorite feature of the game was that the pilot would turn his head and look at nearby enemies that weren't on your screen, to let you know where they were.

  • Whenever I got one of the missions where you had to shoot down the balloons, the first thing I would do was dive down and blow up the anti-aircraft gun so I wouldn't be dodging flak all the time.

  • I never got that idea... you can really blow up the AA guns?

  • Yup. As I recall, they look like little black tripods and I'm pretty sure that there was only one per mission. Just dive down and shoot it. :)

  • I loved this game! It started off my love of all flight sims. I reached Lt. Col but couldn't get any higher. I remember thinking that if I pressed "fire" if I collided with someone or got hit by flack I would still be alive whent the cut seen ended and I could potentially survive the landing. Ah what fun...

  • "there was honor in victory, honor in defeat and honor in just staying alive"

  • @astonsson Shit that was a great quote.... and somehow Wings captured the horror of WWI really well. That funeral scene and music when you die is the saddest thing I've ever seen in a game. The intro is also heavy and loaded.

  • Wings was the best game on the Amiga, hands down. Of course I remember it being more cinematic, but back then even flat shaded 3D graphics were amazing.

  • Truly amazing game!

  • haha my first ever taste of flight sims. hooked ever since

  • wow eindeckers was really deadly.. but why the are all red? ;)

  • just so you can ID the enemy in the game, they weren't really all red

  • yes i know i am right now very much on Great War.. i can say this is my hobby... especially Luftstreitkräfte

  • i loved that game, but: the red baron was immortal. i shot everything ... except him...

  • I'm pretty sure I killed him. I don't remember for sure though.

  • You give us a video in which you get shot down???

    Awesome, just awesome...

  • Wings was awesome, many an hour spent on this classic

  • Good old times! My first a2a!

  • ahh... those were the days...

  • best amiga ww1 simulator ever!

  • thx

  • Makes me want to go on ebay and find me, an Amiga lol.

  • You dont have to. Google "WinUAE" :-)

  • Do tou need a floppy disk drive though?

  • WinUAE is an Amiga hardware emulator..In other words no you dont. Just google it and you should find more than enough info.

  • Oh boy, what a great memories... !

  • I always hated when I had my pilot as a maj. and.. they killed me! wtf.. :(

  • Highest rank I got to was Lt. Col....

Awesome game. There was a cheat for it too!

  • One of the best games I've ever played, maybe the best game on Amiga 500.

    A+++

  • The diary was a really good idea. You lived with the character. The game had an atmosphere. Something that I hardly find in todays video games.

  • i loved the strafing missions

  • I LOVE THIS GAME!

  • to ditch is a disgrace! hehe one of the best games i played

  • One of the best games I played with Amiga.

  • Ahhhh memories.

The sad piano music plays over the diary...

    What a game.

  • "immelmannrolle" rulez!

  • It was a really awesome.

  • I love this oldschool shit^^

  • I got my ass kicked for staying up all night to finish this game.

  • Man I used to play this game for hours and hours. I loved it.

  • Dogfights: 150

    Bombings: 60

    Strafings: 33

  • was it this game where there had different levels such as droping bombs with top down view?

  • yeah, this game you can play in dogfights, bombing and strafing.

u can download this game on different internet-sites. i do also

  • A remake should be make in PC.. But i don't know when..

  • Just the best plane game ever !

  • Is a PC version existing?????

  • A long time ago

    ***** Stars

  • I remember i score 268 kills:D:D Ofcourse I wouldn't achive such a result with out using SAVE button :D:D It was really very hard to not get killed when you have 30+ kills..

  • someone plz put up more videos of this game maybe a walkthrough ?

  • I loved how it was the luck of the draw, sometimes youre plane would represent swiss cheese but if you managed to land it at the right angle youd live to fight another day, there would be other days that youd have really good flight, shoot down three people, and one bullet would hit your pilot in the head and that would be it! Was sooooo dramatic and made you realise how luck plays such a major part in war, as well as skill and training.

  • I played this game a lot, and with an SupraTurbo 28 overclocked to 40Mhz the framerate was pretty good. The controls were difficult which added to the realism IMO. There was a real atmosphere to this game where you felt loss and realised the futility of war.

Classy, well crafted game and one of my favourites of all time.

  • also reading the journal the flightcrew keept really made a nice atmosphere in the game

  • I want to play this again. How can I get this.. with emule??

  • Its legal and free: go to "the game archives" web page for example.

You can get loads of retro games there, and also the EMULATOR called WinUAE...

with some calibration you may run any games.

  • One of the best videogame that i never play in ALL MY LIFE with F/A 18 Interceptor and Another World.

I cry for this game... it was really drammatic.

In this game i remember the bad sensation about the war.

    ç_ç

  • Strangely enough so do i..I also remember feeling terrible when ole macky died rushing out to shoot the german plane with his rifle!.

Loved WINGS!.Cinemaware was way before it`s time.

  • One of my favorite Amiga games!

Really funny, especially for the variety of the missions

  • Te best GAME !!

  • Speedball2 is back and you can play it 2d or 3d! It's £5 on the pc!

  • "This is a warning. Failed missions don't sit pretty with me. Either shape up or you'll be trading in your wings for a pair of mud boots".

That's what Colonel Charles Farrah would have said.

  • this was a very good game at that time ;) I had it and I loved it ;)

  • man this brings tears to my eyes..... Im tempted to go set my old A500 up! have 3000 games sat in boxes in my loft hahaha, i might go waste a month!!!

  • I spent *MANY MANY MANY MANY* hours on this game. Never got out and talked to girls. :)

  • WOW !!! What a game!!! MY BEST GAME EXPERINCE EVER IS GETTING SHOT, AND MY BI PLANE STARTED SMOKING WITH ONLY ONE CANNON WORKING. FIGHTING WITH THE CONTROLS TO STOP THE PLANE FROM CRASHING. SEEING THE LAST ENEMY PLANE IN MY CROSSHAIR, PULLING THE TRIGGER AND DOWNING THE ENEMY. LIVIVG TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY. WHAT A FEELING OF SATISFACTION THAT WAS !!!!

NEVER DID MANAGE TO FINISH THIS GAME. IN ALL FAIRNESS THO I WAS ONLY 9 !

  • this game was really fun

  • This was a fantastic game... used to play it for hours on my A500. It was almost unplayable on a stock 7mhz machine. I had an AddRam and Addspeed accelerator which really helped with the frame rate.

  • this is a very long game. i finneshed this game in 15 months,, cinemaware always made the best games,

  • hehe i was like 8 when i played this on amiga 600... good old days...

  • how do you get it to work on pc using winUAE and were can i get this game?

  • I like how he can fire the guns apparantly using the power of his mind.

That's how we won the war.

  • Yet the plane went down.

  • old school

  • Did anyone play this game to the end?

I played about 30 missions successfully on WinUAE, how many missions are there in total?

  • There are about 240 missions untill the end of the year 1918. In 1990 I`ve made it till the end. Nowadays I can`t save this one on WinUAE, this means playing for 9 hours in one turn!

  • 240 missions? Damn, I have a lot of work to do, it seems...

Also, you CAN save on WinUAE. Press F12 and choose "save state" ;)

  • I seem to recall finishing it once. I don't remember what the ending was though.

  • nice:)

  • o this day, Wings is the best game I ever played.

  • Sweet kill! Blasting those eindeckers (and later triplanes) were alot of fun back in the goold ol day :)

  • One of my favourite games on the Amiga500. Cinemaware titles rock!!!!
