@fishingwithrod I stand corrected :p I must've saw the silt when it was fly through the water and mistaken it for dirty water after the fish flailed around and you step into the water.
@ImDoinRay That water definitely looks dark by simply looking at it. We thought that the first time when fishing it too. When we looked closely, it was actually quite clear and can see pretty far down. Cheers.
@KidLvl9 That is correct. This is a sea trout that had spawned in a stream, therefore the colouration is similar to a brown trout. A sea trout is simply a brown trout that migrate into the ocean during its adult phase.
wow nice and big sea trout sick fly you use i din´t now they like flash fly´s so good but i can see this type fly´s is good what is the name on the fly its look so good :D
Nice fish! But would be larger if you caugth the same fish one or two month later than that, because its a springer and therefor so thin. I fish a lot of sea trouts here in Norway. You should come visit northern Norway in late july or august, when the sea trout goes back to the river from the sea.. fat and powerfull :-D
its extremely thin.coloured....probably a kelt or a baggot... and didnt fight well at all.....plus the idiot fishing hadnt a clue...putting is hand halfway up the rod while playing it..go and learn how to fly fish properly...come to lough currane in county kerry in ireland ...we,ll teach you!!
@fishingwithrod I think you did a nice job there, even if it was a spent fish, if you had hooked it before it spawned the video woulda taken at least 10mins longer to shoot as they fight like demons when fresh and are very very very hard to land
Hope You catch a fresh run seatrout soon, and please visit ireland someday we´re not all ignorant or rude
@TheApollopotter Thanks. The previous response is tongue and cheek of course. ;) This particular fish was definitely a post-spawner, a by-catch while we targeted perch and pike in this river. For fresh sea trout, take a look at on of the video from last December in this channel "Fishing with Rod: Returning to the old spot, again".
i always enjoy to watch your videos speciel those from denmark. i dont got much luck myself to catch those sea trout as there isnt really any good river to catch sea trouts.
pollution is why. consult your local government and give them a report of you analysis of the conditions of the river. the end result should me the stop of what ever dumping, leaking there is from where ever, and the implementation of trout from a near by body of water to restore the population. try fishing further upstream, for the fish should still be there past the leak.
I caught my first and only sea trout with a dead shrimp and a weight under a bridge in Florida when I was little. Now I use lures and all kinds of techniques to catch fish and I realize how lucky I was to catch that off such a crappy piece of bait. Beautiful fish though.
The sea trout in florida are at totally differnt species than the european sea trout. the european sea trout is more/less the equivalent to the steal head, a salmoniod of north america and actually has some very close resemblance. The "sea trout" that you caught in florida is actually a member of the drum family. Cynoscion nebulosus. or Weakfish.
when the sea trout has been in the system a while they go back looking brown again... in Ireland sea trout are brown trout which migrate to sea because of lack of natural feeding or competition between many smaller fish. The sea trout however has a square tail and usually retain a silver/blue hue on the cheek
That is a sea trout that had returned to spawn or had already spawned. Brown trout and sea trout are the same species. Anadromy is simply a variation of brown trout.
that is very interresting! the same is for the brown trouts cousin, the rainbow trout, here in north america. when a population of rainbow trout leaves the freshwater streams and migrates to the ocean, the develop into "stealhead" for their high platinum color transformation. they return to the fresh water streams to reproduce, as well as gobble up salmon eggs. (prime bait)
Yep :) I live in the Pacific Northwest actually, only in Denmark for a couple of months per year. The two trout species' anadromous life strategies evolved so similarly since the last glaciation, which is both fascinating for anglers and biologists.
Wait a minute! Thats a searun Brown. I thought you said Seatrout...as in what we call a weakfish down here in Florida. Those are good eats. I don't think I would eat this brown if I caught it. Sweet fish dude.
This was at Tryggevælde Å in December. We were targeting aborre as sea trout is actually closed for fishing this time of the year, but you encounter them at times as a bycatch. Yes, pity it was a spawned out fish. The fly was simply a streamer with flashabou, kind of like a mini version of a pike fly, which I seem to do ok for large aborre.
Yes of course. We were targeting large perch at the time and that was the only sea trout we by-caught. It's probably back again this year to spawn again already. :)
yea thanks, im gonna try finding a club.. im going down to the lake tonight.. in like 10 min.. they were biting hard when i pasted a few minutes ago..
Enjoy! :) If you are from BC (or anywhere in Canada actually), visit our website fishingwithrod dot com and click on "clubs and associations", then click on "BC", you'll be able to find a list of clubs with contact information that are available.
is a sea trout like a stealhead or a salmon our a different speices?? im new to fly fishing ( im 12) but wanna learn about fly fishing all i have done is local lake for young rainbows (under a pound). caught 25 though!
A sea trout is actually a migratory brown trout that spend several years in the oceans before returning to rivers to spawn, so the lifecycle is fairly similar to a steelhead/rainbow trout. Most of the sea trout are actually female brown trout, while the male brown trout stay in the rivers and are known as true brown trout. The female return as very big fish (5 to 20lb) with lots of eggs while males are rather small as they don't eat as much in a river.
I am not from Denmark. I spend a fair amount of time in Denmark because my girlfriend lives here. I am usually here in December and January, sometimes in May and June too. In Copenhagen.
This species/life cycle is found in Northern Europe and part of South America.
Rainbow trout fishing in lakes is fun and flyfishing can be learned quite easily. To get better, consider joining a flyfishing club in your area so other more experienced fly fishermen can help and teach you.
Mange tak. ;) Actually, it would be nicer if this fish wasn't post-spawned. I suspect it had just laid eggs not long before I caught and released it. Fresher sea trout that come into the river can usually be found in early fall. I was fishing in December mainly for european perch until this fish grabbed my fly.
Thanks! This video doesn't really do justice to the sea trout fishery in Denmark. The best sea trout fishery is actually done from coastal beaches in Denmark, when the fish are in their prime. Some of the sea trout reach as big as 20lb.
really interesting pattern you used there. was it your own design? which country were you fishing in?

Too bad such a beautiful fish needs to go through that muddy water :/

@ImDoinRay The water is not muddy. It's slightly silty, which is pretty typical in the estuary part of a stream.
