  • Katt is really starting to scare me with her psychotic dialog in this translation.

  • Harry Potter plug is shameful. That was what "Moaning Myrtle" was about. Check it out.

  • @NurseRekka The original reference was to Hanako, a sort of Japanese Bloody Mary. Ryusui has already said he switched some of the more obscure references (Although Hanako isn't THAT obscure) to more recent pop culture references. Hence your complaint.

  • @Treble0096 Moaning Myrtle was a character from Harry Potter... unless I missed something... Whoever translated it though used that reference instead of Hanako. I guess people might have related more to a HP reference than the original Hanako one. I didn't mean to complain tho, just thought it was funny.

  • seemed to use*

  • 5:59 - It's kind of like the old Bloody Mary myth from Elementary School.

  • I wonder if you've spotted some of the obscure pop culture references in the script already. :3

Thus far, we've seen MDK2, Sam & Max and, yes folks, Homestar Runner. (The guy in Colossea who quotes Axel from Kingdom Hearts doesn't count. Everybody recognizes THAT one. :3)

As for the girl in the restroom, you're right that in the original, it's a reference to the Japanese urban legend of Hanako. Moaning Myrtle is from the Harry Potter books, but she's similar enough to keep the joke intact.

  • Um, I don't, since I've never played Kingdom Hearts. Could you please enlighten me?

  • "Got it memorized?" is pretty much Axel's catch phrase.

It's worth noting that a lot of the pop culture references I inserted are there as creative interpretations of the original dialogue: the NPC caps his explanation off with just an "Understand?" or some such in the original, for example. They say more or less the same things, they just say them in more inventive ways now. That is writing, and this is Sparta. :3 (No, there's no 300 reference in BoF2.)

  • I see now. I probably wouldn't have noticed it because I'm pretty sure that the phrase "got it memorized" is used the world over. But thanks!

  • That's the trick. :3 If you don't recognize the quote, you won't realize it's an in-joke...sort of like the SEP Field from the third The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book, "Life, the Universe and Everything". (I wonder how many people realize where the name came from? ^_^) In-story, it's a cloaking device that works on a simple, proven principle: if you don't know what it is you're looking at, you don't notice it at all.

  • Was hoping you'd save Katt, I still have no idea what Rand says after you beat Augus with Katt in tow.

Something about "Did you hear them?" Hear who?

  • In the original Rand doesn't say anything til after you beat Augus and then Augus doesn't say half of what he says when you don't save Katt. It kinda skips half of the conversation, I assume because Rand is already inside the battle arena confronting Augus.

Don't fret though I started a new game and am gonna play up to that point to see the other side of the spectrum an record it.
