It gives a lot of people a chance to listen and get into it a bit and if they like what they hear, they will often buy more by that artist. A bit of trivia, while James Blunt said ok him to parody the song, after Al recorded it, James' record label, Atlantic Records said no. Which is why the song doesn't appear on any albums. And why Al is wearing a shirt saying Atlantic Records sucks
