You most likely will have to go through few different website to get all 25 episode plus the movie.

Also for some reason some version remove all the songs.

Transformers wasn't inspired by Macross. They used it as a media vessel to sell a number of Toy Lines which they were already producing under a single flag, renaming them all and in some cases (such as the dinobots) removing the pilots for what were originally mechs. It was "inspired" by the want to make an excuse for a 25 minute commercial.

You can see Godzilla as well as King Kong in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. You even see the ship Venture at one point. These two movies did not inspire that movies. You can be a fan of something and put homages in to your own work. The guys who ANIMATE Transformers or even direct it aren't the guys who run Hasbro, who owned all the toy lines that were combined to make the Transformers toyline which was marketed with the show. It wasn't 'inspired' by anything but greed.

Macross is about the power of love and song, it is dream like and beautiful. Robotech is a science fiction military war epic with songs and character driven drama over generations showing the struggle of humanity and the search for peace and identity.NO joke it is three seperate shows remixed(myhtology, was rewritten for centuries Egypt into Greek into Roman etc) I wish fans/purists would stop whining about which is better. They are both different and awesome in their own ways.

I love Macross but I love Robotech more because the characters are more realistic, the story is more epic, the dialogue is more real, the OST is more epic with the exception of DYRL being just as good music wise. Most Robotech fans also enjoy Macross why do macross purists always sound like junior high school brats trying to prove who is more hardcore otaku?I'm just glad these franchises exist at all in the US. I remember when we couldn't even rent anime on VHS.

Can someone, anyone, explain what the giant Ranka was for? I know the Galaxy was hiding in the hologram but that doesn't really help it make any more sense. At first I didn't even know I was supposed to take it literally, I thought it was some sort of symbolic representation of her influence or maybe some sort of psychic projection in everyone's mind. Then Alto was like "That's not the real Ranka, go ahead and shoot her." and I thought, "Wait, so everybody thought that WAS the real Ranka?"

@rusty1411 To shorten it: the original Macross had the Zentraedi, a warrior-race bred/cloned with no culture outside of war and conquering, that served the Protoculture, a pan-galactic empire. Upon encountering humanity, seeing men and women together, hearing music and generally encountering Culture (that is, non-war culture) disoriented them, and was eventually used as a weapon against the Zentraedi. Music featured heavily after that as an anti-Zentraedi defense, amongst other things.

Go, Team Sheryl! No offense to any Ranka fans, but based on what I saw in the anime, Alto and Sheryl had much more interaction, attraction, and just stuff in common in general. All their friends thought they did, save for Ranka's friend, and even she thought it was a lost cause. Alto always chose Sheryl over Ranka (escort, school, concert scenes). And Alto and Sheryl were living together and practically married right before this happened. It's my opinion that Alto/Sheryl wins in the end.

Remember the scene where they cook and eat dinner together (and Sheryl jokes that men who cook that well are a danger to women)? Afterwards he carries her to bed, and teases her that she's getting spoiled. It's a ridiculously fluffy domestic scene, hence my "practically married" comment. And I think Ranka's character is fine. Just in terms of romance, I believe Alto and Sheryl have more going for them.
