The fact that I've been less assertive lately has been an indicator that I'm suffering from depression, too. I think it's gotten worse over the last several weeks. I have little motivation and I'm highly sensitive to little stuff right now. Do you still recommend Lexapro?
@herrrob14 if that is a recent development and you can identify clear reasons for your mood then it may be a good idea to run the option of taking a drug like this by your doctor. It can give you that little lift you need to tackle your problems but do have yourself assessed by a qualified medical professional, please.
@LesPaul2006 It's more like at the start of the process the end of it was something that might happen at some indefinite point in the future, and I had no idea how long it might take. By this point, 2 months in, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
@asderso Yes, but only after identifying and tackling the underlying problem. Lexapro helped me with the motivation to do that, but it didn't amount to a cure on its own.
@rozeboosje very very good news about you !! started yesterday my first "love affair" with Cypralex (Lexapro). what were your problems ? Mines are social anxiety, isolation and lack of motivation in Life. I know those medications push us to find solutions... understood your message. Sexually we can become dysfunctional taking this drug ? I started with 5mg/day. Good you doing well, men !!
@kwicksandz Just make sure you stay in conversation with your doctor and you review your situation periodically. Good luck, and I hope things will improve for you.
You have a very valid point. Depression can be repressive no matter what your personal outllook or determination and is certainly something to take seriously.
@GlenbrookGrill When I was suffering from mine I was incapable of doing that. It didn't take much, though. A few months on Lexapro to get me over the hump, and once I had done that I took care of the rest myself. I've long since stopped taking the medication. With the new found gumption I made sure I tackled the problems I was facing (dead end job, mainly) and once that was sorted I was ready to come off the schtuff. See my later vids on the topic.
@GlenbrookGrill You don't have the tinyest slightest idea of what a real clinical depression is. Be glad for that. Be really, really thankful and glad.
@YoungMoney835 i knew a guy who snorted antidepressants and almost died.. he foamed from the mouth and went into something like a seizure. (hes not epileptic) ambulance came and everything.
@SicknessWorldwide good to hear it. As long as you're under continued medical supervision and you do feel the pros outweigh the cons, I dare say you'll be happy to put up with some discomfort in the morning. No harm in checking back with your doc every now and again to see if there have been any developments, either new drugs or help with the side effects I, myself, have not been on Lexapro for 2 1/2 years no. @billyboylb Glad to hear it. Are you hoping that in the long run you may be able to find a way to come off the medication or are you happy enough to continue with them indefinitely? good for you.. ive just started taking this afew days ago and im having mixed feelings about it because i keep reading these horror stories about the drug, but its good to hear that its wrking for you
@nylwrd01 I guess that with drugs like these there may be very specific circumstances under which they are appropriate and they yield positive results. I was lucky to be in such a circumstance. I knew what my problem was, I just needed a bit of help to get me motivated to address it. For that sort of a situation I think this drug may be very useful. I'm glad to say that I only took the drug for 7 months in total, including the come down off it.
@rozeboosje yea i know another person that it was happenening to also, but its getting better everyday. i admire your honesty and courage to post these videos, they help me and remind me that im not alone. so thank-you.
@timeforrupert1 That's good to hear. Obviously, being only an (ex) patient myself and not a doctor I have no idea, I'm afraid. I imagine it depends a lot on what is causing your depression (or is it anxiety you are taking it for?). I knew what was causing my state of mind, so L gave me the motivation to tackle the problem head on. When I had resolved the problem I didn't need the medicine anymore. But your situation may be very different.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and progress. It was very brave of you. I was just prescribed lexapro, and too am leery. Your video did help :) I wish you a bright tomorrow. Hang in there!
im on it aswell makes me feel like im going to throw up sometimes and a gurning jaw i just hate the throwing up feeling its making me feel better tho only after the first 2 months tho iv been on it for 31/2 months
@Ronniedasmoker Try eating ginger to combat that feeling. But it should slowly disappear. If it persists, maybe you should go back to your doctor and tell him or her about it.
Hi< I took lexapro for a few months for depresson and it didnt work for me. I am glad to see it working for others. i had a prob impossible. idea, I have been looking around and viewing clip about peo discussing there med etc. There are prob may of us who have trying many med before found a good one. I have many bottles of meds I have switched off of.with peo w/out insurance and prices so hi, wouldnt it be good if could donate meds to peo who cant afford from our switch from prev rxs.dream yes
Yup. In hindsight I think I was very lucky to suffer from an acute depression, caused by the nature of the job I held back then. Lexapro gave me the gumption to tackle the problem, and now I've been in a new job and drug free for over 1 1/2 years.
I'm no longer taking it. I took it for about 6 months in total. I used to take it in the morning. That's just the way it turned out, and it never caused me any problems. I have since heard that those who take it in the evening have had some issues with sleeping and so forth. If in doubt, talk to your doc.
I didn't need it anymore. I had gotten into a rut. I was stuck in a dead end job, having been told in no uncertain terms that I would be doing the crappy work I was doing for the forseeable future, and the job market had already started slowing down significantly so I had talked myself into thinking I wouldn't be able to move. That eventually led to depression. My good fortune though was that I had no problem identifying the exact cause of that problem (more)
Lexapro helped me re-gain my gumption, my motivation to take positive action around my situation. I re-gained my confidence and found a new job. Even though that job was, if possible, even shittier than the one I had left, it had given me the boost I needed to know that I COULD do it, and when after 6 months that job didn't work out, I had no problem picking myself up again and I then found the job I am in now and that I love.
I was just perscribed lexapro yesterday and I took it and all I want to do is sleep is this normal? About after a week how will lexapro make me feel? Thanks alot
Individual reactions can vary. If your reaction worries you contact your doctor and let him or her decide whether it's something to worry about. Normally you may expect to feel a little odd for a couple of weeks max - I felt jittery as if I had had too much coffee - after that you'll feel normal. So normal in fact that at first you might think it "isn't working".
I have no idea. I took lexapro for depression. At first the doctor wasn't sure what ailed me and he gave me xanax. I was already depressed, and I already couldn't motivate myself. Add xanax to that and you have zombie material. Not a good idea. But for anxiety? I don't know. Again, I suggest you ask your doctor. If you don't think your doctor is good enough, find a better doctor, but don't rely on personal accounts like mine. I can only speak for myself.
I hadn't watched these videos before. I'm too self conscious to put this much of myself out there. You come across as very humble in this video. I love the variety on your channel. Great video Pino. -Max
It's all good Pino. You know I just like lurking about your channel leaving comments and then vanishing like a ninja! I do think what you do is great though. Best wishes. -Max
No, but I did get sensations akin to what you get when you drink WAY too much coffee, and I can imagine that that sort of thing is the LAST thing you need if your reason for taking it is anxiety. I had depression though so it didn't bother me much, and since I drank copious amounts of coffee already I managed to counteract it by giving up coffee for a while.
I also experience the GAD, but i could deal with it before.Yet my advanced level exam is coming soon the fucking anxiety creeps back on me. My doc prescribed me with the Lexapro, at which is the minimum dose - 5mg. I feel a little bit relieved after the first dosage since I trust the med will make me feel better.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is "GAD"? I imagine the "D" stands for "Depression"?
Don't expect a sudden change. I found that Lexapro's benefits kind of "sneak up" on you. I didn't think anything was different, until one day I realised I was much more inclined to take action when previously I would procrastinate because every thing seemed like such a mountain to climb.
Hi I have watched your videos and I have recently been prescribed lexapro. Im curious about how its gonna make me feel. I lost my job as well and I have also had step-parent problems. I hope lexapro can help me. I just want to feel better.
The bad news is that you will need to deal with those problems at some point, and right now it seems like a mountain you can't climb. The good news is that Lexapro may help reduce the size of the mountain. It won't make it go away, and you'll hardly notice it, but one day you'll feel able to climb the hill rather than unable to scale the mountain.
When that happens, please take the bull by the horns. Otherwise you're just waiting for the hill to turn into a mountain again.
I've just been perscribed Lexapro for depression. I'm a bit nervous about taking it...there seems to be so many unpleasant side affects. =( How does it affect weight? I've read on sites that a common side affects is decrease in appitite, yet reviews tell me that it makes you gain weight.
I'm suffering from a bit of middle age spread myself but can't say it got much worse with the lexapro. Didn't notice much of an effect on appetite either. Some other side effects but nothing major and they gradually wore off.
lexapro with an anti anxiety medication like xanax or clonapin is very effective for agoraphobia. The cycle of depression and anxiety is best combated by taking care of each symptom and not solely one. Anxiety and Depression are twin sisters. :P
perhaps it's too early yet. I only used it for about 6 months and I have been off it since July, so it's history now, but somebody suggested to me that the side effects of discontinuing it can be counteracted with a few doses of Prozac or a related product right after stopping. You might run that idea by your doctor.
Lexapro really helped me too, i was depressed for years and thought i would have to carry my depression through life, But thanks to Lexapro, i don't, and i feel the best i ever have....
I just started Lexapro today. I really need the boost... I started having suicidal thoughts on Prozac. It was horrible... and my job is extremely stressful so I am contemplating quitting that, as I believe it is the reason I have become so sick (psychologically). :)
I obviously can't speak for you so things may work out very differently, but in my own case it was definitely the dead-end job I was in that was causing the problem.
Lexapro will take a while to become effective. Be patient. But it helped me a lot, and I hope it will do the same for you. Good luck!
I took Lexapro for 4 weeks and felt good but my doctor and I were not sure it was covered under my insurance so we switched to Prozac. Big NO NO.... Prozac pushed me into a deeper depression. So we switched back to Lexapro. It's a $55 copay. Insane!! But I hope it's worth the money. I hope I feel the way you do soon... this depression is killing me.... :(
Your experiences with lexapro are very similar to mine. It is so subtle, but I am able to do more and enjoy things again. I am myself again! I am glad you are speaking about how helpful this medicine is, in conjuction with dealing with the source of the problem. There is a stigma about these meds. It helps you to function so that you can pull yourself out of the situation that caused the illness and develope better coping strategies to prevent a future episode. Why are people against this?
Beats me. Sure, if you watch my later "coming down" videos you'll see that coming off the medicine isn't the easiest thing in the world, but I still thought it was worth it.
what do u know/think about 5htp? i've been using it and am impressed so far. of course good old fashioned exercise is an obvious help big time to depression.
I agree with you 100%.. I have experienced the same effects as you have while on this drug. I started in August 2008... this drug has saved me my job, and made me a all around better person! Go Lexapro! -justin
I hope it'll help you as much as I did. I'm glad to be off the Lexapro today, but it helped me a lot last year.
BTW - coming down can be a little difficult (as you may see in the follow-on vids I posted), but somebody in one of the other videos suggested that after coming off Lexapro you might want to take Prozac (or rather its active ingredient) for a couple of days; apparently it takes care of the withdrawal symptoms. It's only hearsay so run it by your doc.
we are a pill popping nation! i work at a GNC and i think there is a natural way around taking perscription meds. People need to truly reconsider putting synthetic medications in their bodies, which ultimately do one thing, get you hooked for life!
Just like shkumbin23, I have to urge you to go see your doctor about this. Do not keep plodding on. Maybe you need a different dosage, or a different SSRI or a different type of medicine altogether. Don't keep plodding on without getting medical advice.
Go seek a second opinion. Please do. Don't allow yourself to be fobbed off by your doctor. You are experiencing unusual side effects, and your doctor should not dismiss that.
Did u ever feel like a strong burning sensation? I had it twice so far, 3 weeks in and 2 months in, I am 2 months in now,I have no depression at all almost, but this sensation scared the hell out of me, it happnened only 2 times though and for 2-3 mins like a strong burning sensation all over my body?
I have GAD. I am taking 10 MG of Lexapro for 2 years now. I recently bumped it up to 15 MG due to Job loss. I feel and deal with things much better. I was too emotional before. This drug is awesome, no side effects at all. Good luck to you!
Thank you - I did a play list on this; I've actually come out the other end since I made this video, my treatment is over, I'm no longer taking Lexapro. It really worked well for me, I think.
It's a very subtle drug so you shouldn't notice a huge change within yourself, the benefits sort of sneak up on you. But if you feel any strong side effects do go back to your doctor. More than likely though you'll be fine. Good luck with your treatment!
2 months ago I went to go see a psychiatrist. He prescribed Lexapro, but I failed to go along with him because I was never a pill pusher. I suffer from severe social anxiety and become extremely restless around people. My social life is going down the drain. I want to go back to the gym and I want to go out on dates, but this is truly killing me. Should I just bite the bullet and take the meds?
Well, I'm not a medical practitioner, so I can't give valid advice. But from one sufferer to another, it worked very well for me, I noticed NO signs of being "under the influence" of anything, other than some mild side effects in the first few weeks.
Coming off it after treatment wasn't very pleasant, but ultimately I feel it was worth it. The benefits - for ME anyway - far outweighed the short periods of discomfort.
I was I thought the same way. I thought you should just do it the Natural way, but belive me it will just get wore and more worse, If you don't get any help about it dawg.
The thing is, you do need to solve the problem yourself, but sometimes you need some help. I found lexapro was exactly that little bit of help I needed at the time.
i started taking lexapro four days ago. I was really nervous about it and still scared now that it will change me somehow, but thank you for talking about it.
You're welcome. Its effects are very subtle, so you won't notice a change. It'll just one day dawn on you that you've got that gumption back that you thought you had lost ... and you didn't even notice.
Coming down from it at the end of treatment is hard though, see my other videos. But it's worth it all the same.
You seem like a really good guy. Im glad Lexapro is working for you. I am on it too, but gained like 17 pounds from it. Take shower, shave and get busy and you will do really well. Get Busy!!
Thanks. This video is fairly old. By now my treatment is finished and I am off lexapro. Thankfully I didn't put on too much weight. Coming down is difficult though; see my more recent videos in this play list.
Great to hear that! I hope you'll watch the later ones too. I am no longer taking Lexapro now and you may find my experiences coming down of interest. It wasn't easy, but not impossible, and the discomfort of coming down was a price I'm happy to have paid for the benefits I enjoyed during my treatment.
If it makes you feel better then TAKE medication and don't think about it. The main issue people have with taking anti- depressants is DENIAL that anything is the matter, people don't want to own the fact that they are fucking miserable...FACE IT PEOPLE! you ARE miserable and medication will help, so will therapy in the meantime STOP worrying and complaining and take the fuckin pill.
You DO need to think about it because the meds just treat the symptoms. This is great for a while, but unless you try and figure out what the real cause of the problem is you're not actually solving it, and eventually it will rear its ugly head again, with our without medication, and worse than before.
It isn't "denial" either, but rather a sense of "failure" (more...)
People who suffer from depression still are often made to feel like they should be able to "deal with it" on their own; this is not only because outsiders tend to say this about depression, but also what people with the condition beat themselves up about. And then having to take medication feels like they have "failed". I'm making these vids to show that: (more ...)
1) There is no shame in having to take medication for a mental condition. I'm not only happy to do it, but happy to talk about it too. They're not alone.
2) It's NOT a case of "failure". If your body can't fight of an infection on its own, you get help by taking an antibiotic. Your body still does most of the work, but the antibiotic gives it that little boost. And taking an SSRI is the same. You still need to solve your own problem, but the SSRI will help you get the gumption to do it.
I took them for 5 months. In that period it gave me the gumption to work on solving the real, underlying problem, which was the shitty nature of my job. I got a new job, and I'm much happier now. I went down to half doses for a month, and I am now taking half doses every other day for another month. After that I'll be off them altogether. They really help, as long as you realise they are no permanent solution.
I'm glad you're feeling better. I've been on Lexapro for 2 weeks and am optimistic to start feeling better. I've been at rock bottom for far too long. Thanks for posting this video.
I took 10 mg for 6 months, and this gave me the get up and go to go address the real issue (my shitty job) and now I have started in my new job I'm down to 5 mg a for one month and then another 5 mg every other day to slowly come off the drug. It really helped.
i belive a bit of lexpro and going to prison fixed my anxiety and depression i just watched your first vid now this one and you look and sound heaps better im glad you found your right mix buddy
Yeah. If you see my most recent video, I'm just about to start the process of coming down from this drug now I have addressed the root cause of the problem. I have a new job, hurray! Wish me luck :-) - both with the job and coming off the tablets (grin)
No. Some people become a bit more anxious in the first few days, and side effects can be a bit unpleasant at first. Thankfully I wasn't affected by either. Other than that, I feel completely normal on the stuff. Except I have a bit more drive and gumption. So no, it's useless for recreation. Sorry!
Cheers. I'm about to go back and ask to go to half doses. I've found a new job so the cause of the problem has been removed, and I hope to be able to come off the stuff soon. But it certainly helped me take that step.
roze i just quit becuse i ran out and didnt renew the script. I didnt have any of the side effects that people talk about... like brain zaps and whatnot. given i was only on it for 3 1/2 months.
The fact that I've been less assertive lately has been an indicator that I'm suffering from depression, too. I think it's gotten worse over the last several weeks. I have little motivation and I'm highly sensitive to little stuff right now. Do you still recommend Lexapro?

@Ronniedasmoker Try eating ginger to combat that feeling. But it should slowly disappear. If it persists, maybe you should go back to your doctor and tell him or her about it.

Hi< I took lexapro for a few months for depresson and it didnt work for me. I am glad to see it working for others. i had a prob impossible. idea, I have been looking around and viewing clip about peo discussing there med etc. There are prob may of us who have trying many med before found a good one. I have many bottles of meds I have switched off of.with peo w/out insurance and prices so hi, wouldnt it be good if could donate meds to peo who cant afford from our switch from prev rxs.dream yes
lunaslairnyc 2 years ago
Yup. In hindsight I think I was very lucky to suffer from an acute depression, caused by the nature of the job I held back then. Lexapro gave me the gumption to tackle the problem, and now I've been in a new job and drug free for over 1 1/2 years.
rozeboosje 2 years ago
When do you guys take it? Night or morning?
bmccann55 2 years ago
I'm no longer taking it. I took it for about 6 months in total. I used to take it in the morning. That's just the way it turned out, and it never caused me any problems. I have since heard that those who take it in the evening have had some issues with sleeping and so forth. If in doubt, talk to your doc.
rozeboosje 2 years ago
Why did you stop taking it?
bmccann55 2 years ago
I didn't need it anymore. I had gotten into a rut. I was stuck in a dead end job, having been told in no uncertain terms that I would be doing the crappy work I was doing for the forseeable future, and the job market had already started slowing down significantly so I had talked myself into thinking I wouldn't be able to move. That eventually led to depression. My good fortune though was that I had no problem identifying the exact cause of that problem (more)
rozeboosje 2 years ago
Lexapro helped me re-gain my gumption, my motivation to take positive action around my situation. I re-gained my confidence and found a new job. Even though that job was, if possible, even shittier than the one I had left, it had given me the boost I needed to know that I COULD do it, and when after 6 months that job didn't work out, I had no problem picking myself up again and I then found the job I am in now and that I love.
rozeboosje 2 years ago
So, with the cause of the problem removed there was no need for me to continue taking it.

Glad you're feeling happier about things. Keep it up :)

I was just perscribed lexapro yesterday and I took it and all I want to do is sleep is this normal? About after a week how will lexapro make me feel? Thanks alot
08blanca 2 years ago
Individual reactions can vary. If your reaction worries you contact your doctor and let him or her decide whether it's something to worry about. Normally you may expect to feel a little odd for a couple of weeks max - I felt jittery as if I had had too much coffee - after that you'll feel normal. So normal in fact that at first you might think it "isn't working".
rozeboosje 2 years ago
Ok I have another question, what is better xanax or lexapro as far as really controlling the anxiety?
08blanca 2 years ago
I have no idea. I took lexapro for depression. At first the doctor wasn't sure what ailed me and he gave me xanax. I was already depressed, and I already couldn't motivate myself. Add xanax to that and you have zombie material. Not a good idea. But for anxiety? I don't know. Again, I suggest you ask your doctor. If you don't think your doctor is good enough, find a better doctor, but don't rely on personal accounts like mine. I can only speak for myself.

Lexapro mixes VERY poorly with some over-the-counter supplements. Unless it's a standard multivitamin or approved by your doctor, avoid it.
spasticteapot 2 years ago
No, don't. At least not without consulting your doctor. As long as the side effects are bearable, rest assured that they are temporary.
rozeboosje 2 years ago
No, but I did get sensations akin to what you get when you drink WAY too much coffee, and I can imagine that that sort of thing is the LAST thing you need if your reason for taking it is anxiety. I had depression though so it didn't bother me much, and since I drank copious amounts of coffee already I managed to counteract it by giving up coffee for a while.
rozeboosje 2 years ago
I also experience the GAD, but i could deal with it before.Yet my advanced level exam is coming soon the fucking anxiety creeps back on me. My doc prescribed me with the Lexapro, at which is the minimum dose - 5mg. I feel a little bit relieved after the first dosage since I trust the med will make me feel better.
Now my mind throttles again after a night.
micold 2 years ago
Pardon my ignorance, but what is "GAD"? I imagine the "D" stands for "Depression"?
Don't expect a sudden change. I found that Lexapro's benefits kind of "sneak up" on you. I didn't think anything was different, until one day I realised I was much more inclined to take action when previously I would procrastinate because every thing seemed like such a mountain to climb.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Ah. I couldn't even get ONE letter right :-)
Thanks for the explanation.
rozeboosje 2 years ago
Hi I have watched your videos and I have recently been prescribed lexapro. Im curious about how its gonna make me feel. I lost my job as well and I have also had step-parent problems. I hope lexapro can help me. I just want to feel better.
Brody1i2 2 years ago
The bad news is that you will need to deal with those problems at some point, and right now it seems like a mountain you can't climb. The good news is that Lexapro may help reduce the size of the mountain. It won't make it go away, and you'll hardly notice it, but one day you'll feel able to climb the hill rather than unable to scale the mountain.
When that happens, please take the bull by the horns. Otherwise you're just waiting for the hill to turn into a mountain again.

Yes I have heard of 5HTP is good for people who used to take an anti-depressant but no longer need them, and still want to feel 'better than well'

I've just been perscribed Lexapro for depression. I'm a bit nervous about taking it...there seems to be so many unpleasant side affects. =( How does it affect weight? I've read on sites that a common side affects is decrease in appitite, yet reviews tell me that it makes you gain weight.
imgonnaeatu45 3 years ago
I'm suffering from a bit of middle age spread myself but can't say it got much worse with the lexapro. Didn't notice much of an effect on appetite either. Some other side effects but nothing major and they gradually wore off.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
what about agoraphobia? that is the hardest for me at this time
skid272 3 years ago
Since it's an anxiety disorder it may help, but talk to your doctor. (s)he knows best.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
lexapro with an anti anxiety medication like xanax or clonapin is very effective for agoraphobia. The cycle of depression and anxiety is best combated by taking care of each symptom and not solely one. Anxiety and Depression are twin sisters. :P
tyndarius 2 years ago
perhaps it's too early yet. I only used it for about 6 months and I have been off it since July, so it's history now, but somebody suggested to me that the side effects of discontinuing it can be counteracted with a few doses of Prozac or a related product right after stopping. You might run that idea by your doctor.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
You should go back to your doctor and talk to him or her about it.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
will it help with panic attacks?

I just started Lexapro today. I really need the boost... I started having suicidal thoughts on Prozac. It was horrible... and my job is extremely stressful so I am contemplating quitting that, as I believe it is the reason I have become so sick (psychologically). :)
bettescorpio 3 years ago
I obviously can't speak for you so things may work out very differently, but in my own case it was definitely the dead-end job I was in that was causing the problem.
Lexapro will take a while to become effective. Be patient. But it helped me a lot, and I hope it will do the same for you. Good luck!
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Thanks!! Quick question, did you quit your job?
bettescorpio 3 years ago
Yes. The lexapro gave me the get-up and go to find a new one.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I took Lexapro for 4 weeks and felt good but my doctor and I were not sure it was covered under my insurance so we switched to Prozac. Big NO NO.... Prozac pushed me into a deeper depression. So we switched back to Lexapro. It's a $55 copay. Insane!! But I hope it's worth the money. I hope I feel the way you do soon... this depression is killing me.... :(
bettescorpio 3 years ago
How long have been on it now?
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Maybe (s)he thought they were of a nervous origin?
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Your experiences with lexapro are very similar to mine. It is so subtle, but I am able to do more and enjoy things again. I am myself again! I am glad you are speaking about how helpful this medicine is, in conjuction with dealing with the source of the problem. There is a stigma about these meds. It helps you to function so that you can pull yourself out of the situation that caused the illness and develope better coping strategies to prevent a future episode. Why are people against this?
tabithamew 3 years ago
Beats me. Sure, if you watch my later "coming down" videos you'll see that coming off the medicine isn't the easiest thing in the world, but I still thought it was worth it.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
what do u know/think about 5htp? i've been using it and am impressed so far. of course good old fashioned exercise is an obvious help big time to depression.
iworkforme 3 years ago
I've never heard of it, I'm afraid.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I agree with you 100%.. I have experienced the same effects as you have while on this drug. I started in August 2008... this drug has saved me my job, and made me a all around better person! Go Lexapro! -justin
jfaltus1 3 years ago
Great!
It's only hearsay so run it by your doc.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
we are a pill popping nation! i work at a GNC and i think there is a natural way around taking perscription meds. People need to truly reconsider putting synthetic medications in their bodies, which ultimately do one thing, get you hooked for life!
dabigplaya2389 3 years ago
Please fuck off. I took lexapro for a few months. It helped me over a hump. Now I have addressed my problem and I'm no longer taking any meds.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
:D
Are you sure you got over your hump? Lashing out at people anonymously over the internet is a good form of medication, admittedly.
BastyBoo 3 years ago
I'M NOT FUCKING ANG.... oh.... ahem.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Yeah. Things are great; have been off the meds since July and do not think I'll need to go back on them.
Keep asking your doctor, and if they don't know, go look for more information elsewhere.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I'm starting this stuff again, I came off it two years ago and I've forgotten how nice it was to not feel feelings.
LeeboJackson 3 years ago
Hm... It can be nice to feel feelings too. As long as they're not feelings of depression.
Do you know what is causing those feelings in your case?
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Sorry to hear that. Don't give up though. New medicines come on to the market all the time. One day, hopefully, they'll make one that works for you!
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Just like shkumbin23, I have to urge you to go see your doctor about this. Do not keep plodding on. Maybe you need a different dosage, or a different SSRI or a different type of medicine altogether. Don't keep plodding on without getting medical advice.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I did, and he said its nothing to worry about. I dont know...
shkumbin23 3 years ago
Go seek a second opinion. Please do. Don't allow yourself to be fobbed off by your doctor. You are experiencing unusual side effects, and your doctor should not dismiss that.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Did u ever feel like a strong burning sensation? I had it twice so far, 3 weeks in and 2 months in, I am 2 months in now,I have no depression at all almost, but this sensation scared the hell out of me, it happnened only 2 times though and for 2-3 mins like a strong burning sensation all over my body?
shkumbin23 3 years ago
No. And I think you should talk to your doctor about this.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I tried lexapro but had a bad reaction.

rozeboosje 3 years ago
I have just started taking Lexapro to treat my anxiety issues.
I've heard that Lexapro "suppresses your emotions." What would you say about that?
TheLoofahBoy 3 years ago
I didn't actually notice that, no.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
You're probably better off asking your doctor as it might depend on what exactly ails you. I took it in the morning.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I have GAD. I am taking 10 MG of Lexapro for 2 years now. I recently bumped it up to 15 MG due to Job loss. I feel and deal with things much better. I was too emotional before. This drug is awesome, no side effects at all. Good luck to you!
Hallaran 3 years ago
Thank you - I did a play list on this; I've actually come out the other end since I made this video, my treatment is over, I'm no longer taking Lexapro. It really worked well for me, I think.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
It's a very subtle drug so you shouldn't notice a huge change within yourself, the benefits sort of sneak up on you. But if you feel any strong side effects do go back to your doctor. More than likely though you'll be fine. Good luck with your treatment!
rozeboosje 3 years ago
2 months ago I went to go see a psychiatrist. He prescribed Lexapro, but I failed to go along with him because I was never a pill pusher. I suffer from severe social anxiety and become extremely restless around people. My social life is going down the drain. I want to go back to the gym and I want to go out on dates, but this is truly killing me. Should I just bite the bullet and take the meds?
chintobean 3 years ago
Well, I'm not a medical practitioner, so I can't give valid advice. But from one sufferer to another, it worked very well for me, I noticed NO signs of being "under the influence" of anything, other than some mild side effects in the first few weeks.
Coming off it after treatment wasn't very pleasant, but ultimately I feel it was worth it. The benefits - for ME anyway - far outweighed the short periods of discomfort.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I was I thought the same way. I thought you should just do it the Natural way, but belive me it will just get wore and more worse, If you don't get any help about it dawg.
seanyboy707 3 years ago
The thing is, you do need to solve the problem yourself, but sometimes you need some help. I found lexapro was exactly that little bit of help I needed at the time.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
i started taking lexapro four days ago. I was really nervous about it and still scared now that it will change me somehow, but thank you for talking about it.
tt814u 3 years ago
You're welcome. Its effects are very subtle, so you won't notice a change. It'll just one day dawn on you that you've got that gumption back that you thought you had lost ... and you didn't even notice.
Coming down from it at the end of treatment is hard though, see my other videos. But it's worth it all the same.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
You seem like a really good guy. Im glad Lexapro is working for you. I am on it too, but gained like 17 pounds from it. Take shower, shave and get busy and you will do really well. Get Busy!!
freefalln329 3 years ago
Thanks. This video is fairly old. By now my treatment is finished and I am off lexapro. Thankfully I didn't put on too much weight. Coming down is difficult though; see my more recent videos in this play list.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
How much dose did you take? 10, 20mg? I've been taking lexapro 10 mg for almost one year already.
gabuchoinny 3 years ago
I took 10mg for about 6 months. I've been off it for 5 months now.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
Thank you very much for sharing this video. It helped me out alot.
YoungAndBaldingNJ 3 years ago
Great to hear that! I hope you'll watch the later ones too. I am no longer taking Lexapro now and you may find my experiences coming down of interest. It wasn't easy, but not impossible, and the discomfort of coming down was a price I'm happy to have paid for the benefits I enjoyed during my treatment.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
If it makes you feel better then TAKE medication and don't think about it. The main issue people have with taking anti- depressants is DENIAL that anything is the matter, people don't want to own the fact that they are fucking miserable...FACE IT PEOPLE! you ARE miserable and medication will help, so will therapy in the meantime STOP worrying and complaining and take the fuckin pill.
brittania1974 3 years ago
You DO need to think about it because the meds just treat the symptoms. This is great for a while, but unless you try and figure out what the real cause of the problem is you're not actually solving it, and eventually it will rear its ugly head again, with our without medication, and worse than before.
It isn't "denial" either, but rather a sense of "failure" (more...)
rozeboosje 3 years ago
People who suffer from depression still are often made to feel like they should be able to "deal with it" on their own; this is not only because outsiders tend to say this about depression, but also what people with the condition beat themselves up about. And then having to take medication feels like they have "failed". I'm making these vids to show that: (more ...)
rozeboosje 3 years ago
1) There is no shame in having to take medication for a mental condition. I'm not only happy to do it, but happy to talk about it too. They're not alone.
2) It's NOT a case of "failure". If your body can't fight of an infection on its own, you get help by taking an antibiotic. Your body still does most of the work, but the antibiotic gives it that little boost. And taking an SSRI is the same. You still need to solve your own problem, but the SSRI will help you get the gumption to do it.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
don't do it. Any kind of SSRI is too dangerous
SnarfBanks 3 years ago
Not under medical supervision it's not.
They really help, as long as you realise they are no permanent solution.
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I'm glad you're feeling better. I've been on Lexapro for 2 weeks and am optimistic to start feeling better. I've been at rock bottom for far too long. Thanks for posting this video.

SnarfBanks 3 years ago
I'm sure they are, if you don't take them on medical advice
rozeboosje 3 years ago
depression is dangerous. It's easy to say "don't mess with anti..." but some people need them. Counseling isn't always enough.

What MG are you taking? I'm also taking it at 20MG with great results.

I took 10 mg for 6 months, and this gave me the get up and go to go address the real issue (my shitty job) and now I have started in my new job I'm down to 5 mg a for one month and then another 5 mg every other day to slowly come off the drug. It really helped.

No. Some people become a bit more anxious in the first few days, and side effects can be a bit unpleasant at first. Thankfully I wasn't affected by either. Other than that, I feel completely normal on the stuff. Except I have a bit more drive and gumption. So no, it's useless for recreation. Sorry!
