I just bought it and they are battery operated. 4 C batteries. Right now I'm trying this out because rats are fucking smart. They will dodge and get out of the glue traps and sometimes they're impervious to rat poison sold in stores like Walmart. The instructions actually tell you to keep a fresh supply of 20 poison baits and come 4 in a pack, which is almost like $50. This is $40 and if it works for me, I great lifetime investment in future pest control with no mess.

Packaging states it's good for 50 kills. At this rate - I'll need more batteries by week's end. Hands-down, best damned rat trap out there - worth every penny!

And as someone who's owned rats for 10+ years, I have also had the unfortunate experience of living with wild rats & mice, generally you dont get both, rats will kill mice. Rats are smart and hard to get rid of. It is unfortunate that this one died, however he had a quick death.

FYI peppermint is a natural deterrent and works wonders
