Jon Stewart sells himself and his show short in a lot of ways. He's caught people in their bullshit more than I have ever seen from any other commentator.
Rose seems like a buffoon here. Stewart was obviously biting his tongue a few times. Rose obviously thinks of himself as more sophisticated than Stewart by way of casting aspersion on the maturity of Stewart's audience. I'm 51 and I don't watch Rose because it's rarely enlightening and the questions are bland but delivered so seriously.

Granted, it has its fair share of scatalogical jokes and inane puns, but there is satire and social commentary as well. There is also a constant critical analysis of media coverage (and not just of Fox News though they do get a lot of Stewart's attention). I love Charlie, but if not for the daily show, a lot of the sensational, misleading, disingenuous news coverage in the media would not get called out.

Yeah, it's true. I'm a conservative and I'll still watch his show when I'm going through the channels and it's on, not because I like his views, but because it's funny. Most people who turn to it for news and legitimate commentary, as you pointed out, know just about nothing. It's a comedy show with a view, not to be taken seriously.

You bring up a valid point. The show does have some importance however. Its because of that show I started watching CNN, FOX, etc. The Daily Show makes you stop and laugh at the elite few in the dumb media.

And after about 3-4 years of loyal viewing from me, he became WAY over the top liberal and simply not funny anymore, which was unfortunate because he really is a funny person. Rose obviously thinks of himself as more sophisticated than Stewart by way of casting aspersion on the maturity of Stewart's audience. I'm 51 and I don't watch Rose because it's rarely enlightening and the questions are bland but delivered so seriously.

@willsl321 You're overestimating the amount of low-brow comedy on the daily show. Granted, it has its fair share of scatalogical jokes and inane puns, but there is satire and social commentary as well. There is also a constant critical analysis of media coverage (and not just of Fox News though they do get a lot of Stewart's attention). I love Charlie, but if not for the daily show, a lot of the sensational, misleading, disingenuous news coverage in the media would not get called out.

The Daily Show's writers and Jon Stewarts own views inform the show, and just because they are left leaning, doesn't mean they spin pure shit. They tell jokes from a liberal stand-point, they don't just make up lies like Fox does. I've watched Fox just to see if it was really as bad as it seems and oh my god. I about died laughing at some of the things they were saying. Jon Stewart is Liberal, so he attracts a generally liberal audicience that finds his views as funny as he does.

It is. That is half the reason Charlie Rose is so good though, they put everything into getting people on the show and asking them stuff. Very stripped down, almost always high quality content though.

I agree with everything you have said, I love Charie Rose so much better then Larry King who is a hack at this point.
