  • This girl never missed a note ever, god bless you Karen

  • She had a very well controlled voice and never strained or reached for notes from her range like a lot of singers do. Excellent timing and did it all with ease

  • Karen was truly blessed with a wonderful talent. So many of us grew-up listening to her music. It's amazing that there's so many more tunes of the Carpenters that were never played on the radio. I've found so many songs that I've never heard, until now. Most of their songs are beautiful. This one is no exception.

  • Essa é a mais romântica de todas as musicas deles !

  • My Lord, the words alone can make you weepy.........and then Her Voice is singing those words and I personally don't stand a chance...heart in m'throat here in Harrisburg. Always, KC, and forever - you are still that one who took so many of us to so many somewheres that we'd never been.

  • I love all the groovy letters.

  • one love my dream ..... Karen

  • quelle voix j'ai envie de me faire bercer a nouveau

  • Im a stereotypical big burly construction worker, but Karen's beauty and talent almost chokes me up.Dead at 32...what a shame

  • @cuphan99 Really???????????? OMG....you are so RIGHT. There will NEVER be another. Karen is one in a MILLION. I will always LOVE HER.

  • I would like to put this one out there & roll the Dice for the world to read & see what they think of this idea. I would Love more than anything in the world for Richard Carpenter to get the Carpenter band together (including Herb, & Burt who were a Big part) & do a tribute show for Karen &Tony. Why not one more time, for the good old times. Everyones getting older each & every year, I really believe in my heart that this would be special & Karen could be included on a Big Screen with Pictures

  • I will go on the record by saying Karen Carpenter's problem was ultimately SELF ESTEEM, that lead to her eating disorder. Over the last 10 months countless people have told me that I was right about Randy Schmidt just wanting to sell books, however pay no kudos to me. The fans usually find out the truth. I can add 25 chapters to Randy's INCOMPLETE book. The people who wouldn't talk to him will talk to me, because I would NEVER throw people of whom I Love under the bus, especially Karen.

  • Love you Kc xoxo

  • Love the Carpenters and all of their music. However, out of all of their work, this has always been my favorite for 40 years.

  • Thanks for all your wonderful music Karen..a beautiful angel with an angel voice..miss and love you.

  • I honestly feel like Richard and Karen have been so misunderstood in their music.

  • Superb music, wonderful female singer, sublime interpretation! Missing her in Brazil.

  • Who could dislike this?

  • The greatest female voice that God ever created!

  • @cuphan99 agree...100%....karen and richard were the most talented siblings in the world...her voice and his arrangements and harmonies.....incomparable........they are both missed from a society that needs a ton of work......ty for uploading

  • @cuphan99 Well, Agnetha of Abba was decent too.....:)

  • i miss her.

  • The lyrics are so beautiful in this brightly woven love song. Only Karen could make them so meaningful. She had a real gift for touching our hearts and souls.

  • So beautiful. Wow! She was definitely born to sing. So into her music, so much feeling. Love it!

  • this song has been on my mind all day :) I LOVE KAREN SO MUCH :)

  • She is so beautiful and innocent here.

  • Happy Birthday, Karen. Never forgotten.

  • This is a very hauntingly beautiful song. By the way, what was up with fashion in those days? I probably wasn't born yet.

  • so hauntingly beautiful...!

  • Karen, anima mia R.I.P. :(

  • beautiful song...amazing!i wish caren still alive to share her music to the world

  • lip sync ? guys

  • I enjoyed this and thanks for including the Lyrics.

  • WOW

  • Thanks for sharing the warmth on a snowy day....^_^

  • You get an award "hurtingeachother"... For posting only one vid, you hit a Home Run !!!.

Karen is special... so is this vid.

    Thanks for the post.

  • "One Karen" ....

  • This is the "Moonlight Sonata" of my generation.

  • Thank God for YouTube we can still enjoy The Carpenter's performances!

  • Ah come on. Even by 1969 standards, that dress is hideous.

Why didn't they put her in elegant evening gowns for these types of numbers?

  • I don't think it gets any more beautiful, innocent and pure than that!

  • How dare anyone liken this to elevator music. This is seamless, uninterruptible, and soulful. Some the most palpable nostalgia ever heard.

  • OMG i nearly died listening to this song, so sad and deep and dark.

  • If this were the only song ever created, it would be enough to make music immortal.

  • What a heavenly song. What a lovely voice. Thanks, Carpenters! Thanks, Karen. Certainly, you'll live always in our hearts

  • A voice for eternity pointing to eternity (at 2:59). God bless!!

  • Karen's voice is a spiritual experience in itself, event it you don't believe in God, surely you'd wonder.....

  • Love you forever Karen!

  • again. why was this not a hit. just beautiful. perfect. just perfect.

  • Such nice voice...

  • We had this song playing at our wedding!

    Love the Carpenters!

Karen's voice always gives me goose bumps.

  • @wandererintime i wonder how many people there are out there who have literally experienced goose bumps or chills up their spines from karen's voice.

  • @No1KCfan6 i do >.<" and her voice is really achingly beautiful, i can't help but tear. i'm only 25years old, but i love old classics much more than the modern music nowadays! the old classics are wonderful to relate to.

  • @Heartaken you have excellent taste!

  • I just love this song... One of the later songs from their late seventies albums...

  • Now this is a wedding song.

  • sing it bro mp3ify is the online destination to download this song. do a search engine lookup for mp3ify.

  • I just have to say that I've never understood why some people feel that KC's movements with her hands are awkward. From my perspective, Karen is so into her singing that she doesn't even THINK about her hands--her movements just happen naturally. It's one of the reasons that I love Karen: because she CONNECTS with her songs. RIP lovely lady.

  • @falldownhard I am glad that you appreciate her purity of style, and what I think of as Karen's innate elegance. Have you clicked on "The Carpenters--(A Place To) Hideaway"? Yum! What a treat.

  • Karen always had the voice of an angel... RIP Karen...

Thank you @70smusicman for this touching share...

Thank you hurtingeachother for posting this GEM!

  • Boy, u guys sure are a nostalgic bunch.

    And Karen, one love? Sure.

  • @luckyycharrm your a "wet noodle" if you don't love Karen. She had more talent in her pinky then you have.

  • @SuperLin55 You got me wrong. I love Karen. I was referring to the fact that people say things like 'the 70s is better than today'.

PS: ONE LOVE FOR KAREN? SURE!!!

  • @luckyycharrm They are. Take me back.

  • All is vanity.

  • Poor kid - I just read where, just prior to this (these) series of shoots/videos (taken from the 1971 summer replacement show "Make Your Own Kind of Music") that Richard had asked Karen to step out from behind the drums & "front" the band, as she was the main attraction. The drums were her first love, and, I believe vital to her identity. Notice she looks somewhat awkward & uncomfortable - not quite knowing what to do with her hands, but still beautiful to me.

  • @greenwich1754 That's not what sent her over...it was comments like "that chubby girl behind the drums". Wow, she was never chubby. Yeh, I guess names will hurt you.

  • @SuperLin55 If it's any consolation to you, the chubby comments have been debunked by Randy Schmidt, author of "Little Girl Blue." The articles and stories are urban myth.

  • If only she hadn't worn that dress...but at 21, Karen had the most amazing voice I have ever heard.

  • @steveatl40: The dress didn't look too bad. All she needed was tp lose the sleeves.

  • @bazmitch: Oh quit bein' a spoiler. I DO love her voice. Besides, it wasn't a hypothetical question.

  • fantastic!!! , the world wouldn't have been the same without our Karen !

  • It's otherwordly - it's like her voice had scientific properties.

  • One of her very best.. A miracle of a voice. I'm right with you, splitsandpens.and vmuto, and I'm not a religious person. But I wonder if, when she so sadly and prematurely left us, that the Karen of the 70s had already gone. She was getting huskier with every recording. I would not have liked to see her wincing at the notes she could no longer get. Let's remember her how she was - an angel on earth.

  • That did not come out of a human throat. I have heard angels sing.

  • Very poignant and haunting - to hear her say "I want to live again"...

  • What's a beautiful voice she is!!

    Karen forever.

  • Geezus...how great she was. Taken far too early

  • What a beautiful song. It has been the best of the 70's to have this beautiful expression of love and with a real talent soul as Karen Carpenter.

  • karen, if you only knew that you are loved so much & 27 years since you passed on, we are still in awe ...you are truly missed

  • nothing to say but wow

  • Call me a sentimental sap (which I am!), but I think if this song were released today, it would become a hit. It is obscure enough and old enough that it might sound "new". Just as "Close to You" was a refreshing, relaxing sound after the turmoil of the late '60's, so is this song soothing & nostalgic in light of economic and other troubling world events. Karen's voice seems to make everything all right.

  • she is so missed but we are blessed for what she did give us.

  • I love you, Karen. Rest In Peace, Sweet Angel

  • The "chubby" article is apparently a myth. Never happened. Karen's problem was a lack of self-love, combined with a dominating sibling whom she worshipped.

  • I'm in love with Karen Carpenter

  • What an angel.

  • beautiful song. superb vocals. hideous dress! lol

  • Is Karen your favorite vocalist? If so, please go Google:

Karen is nº 6. She deserves Nº 1!!!

  • the good die young...

  • she is fragile yet beautiful, and really feels what she is singing. I love Karen.

  • reflect of her

  • How lucky we were that an angel sang this song for us.

  • @splitsandpens I couldn't have said it any better; thanks!

  • What a beautiful song by karen!

  • Karens disease of anorexia was NOT a choice!! I knew Karen personally, & I, too have suffered from anorexia for 31 yrs. Its not a diseASE OF CHOICE!! i nevwr WOULD HAVE CHOSEN THIS!! EVER!! Its a disease of control. You obviousle have a computer. Try "googling" ANOREXIA & learn about it!! My uncle was not only a band member, he was a pall bearer in Karens funeral.

  • Comment removed

  • smeone commented about the dress she was wearing in this video. 1) it was a style of the times (1967!!() Also, I knew Karen PERSONALLY!! My uncle was a band member from beginning to beind a pall beaere at her funeral !! Bob Messenger - look him up if you dont believe me!! I also suffer from anorexia, & trust me - IT IS NOT A DISEASE I WOULD EVER CHOOSE!! ive battled iit for 31 yrs. Its a disease of control, not a disease of choice!!!!! Summer~

  • I knew Karen personally. My uncle, Bob Messenger was an an origanal band member, as well as a pall bearer in Karens funeral. I also have suffered from anorexia for 31 yrs. Its a disease that is derived from control issues. Mine started when I was 13 yrs old. Im an only child raised by a cop who had an affair because my mom got fat. Karens started when she was called "Richards chubby little sister" in the press. Its not a choice, the brain just locks in to the control factor. She always lives!

  • A 1967 song.

  • I don't know about you but this song gives me goosebumps...

  • Honesty , I`m 27 and I`m anoretic.

sorry but, you don`t have idea what you talking about, AN is another life far of people who can eat

  • What IF that reporter wouldn't have wrote about Karen being Richard's chubby little sister. I still don't know what HE was talking about. Karen was never chubby, even at her heaviest. WHAT A JERK !

  • I agree I think Karen was solely responsibile for what had happened to her.She knew what she was going in for when she opted for a career in showbiz.I am a fan of this great lady and i reallly felt sad when she left us.But we shouldnt blame Agnes or richard or the media.

  • @faithcesari

You can't be for real. Nobody signs on to have an illness like that. It's a disease, and like any other disease it is not a choice. It's not anyone else's fault either. Just like depression, panic disorer, bulimia, etc aren't anyone's fault or anyone's choice. The poor thing was sick. She never asked for that. I highly doubt she went into the spotlight expecting that to happen to her and doing it anyway. My God, what a ridiculous comment.

  • hey ashlee i am for real and i dont think my comments were ridiculous those are my comments and you should respect that.and dont use god s name in vain.i think you are the one that is ridiculous

  • @faithcesari

You ask me to respect your opinion, and then you tell me how to talk.

I think your comments are simply of someone who is not knowledgable about a disease like anorexia. That's my opinion, I'm sticking to it. Maybe if you looked into it a little bit more and studied it, you'd agree with me. Sorry if I came across as harsh, but your comments really angered me and I'm sure they angered plenty of other people as well.

  • Get a life the person we are talking about died 26 yrs ago. That s my opinion and im entitled to it u were the one who said my comment was ridiculous so i told you to respect it.You were using God s name in vain. You can be angry all you want for the rest of your life. Its xmas and im going to enjoy iy.

  • I remember that show!! I watched it just see the Carpenters. And .. to Vegas787, read Lone4hire's post again. He didn't say he was Richard, he said he met Richard and Karen's parents.

  • This is my favorite. Their songs will live on forever.

  • WOW!!!

  • no whistle...no power...no melissmas...but pure voice of an angel. karen i love you very much

  • KC had a magical voice...she is an angel. Gorgeous song and lyrics.

  • TIMELESS!

  • OMG. This was always one of my absolute FAVORITE Carpenters' song!

The piano, violin (I think) the OBOE and KAREN'S VOICE - it's so beautiful that it's almost too much to bear...I can't believe this video of One Love EXISTS!!

When/Where was this video made/shown?? In my 34 years of being a Carpenters fan, I've never seen this vid before and didn't know it existed! Thanks so much for posting this!!

I still think Karen's voice is the most perfect and pleasing sound on this planet!

  • I agree :) I think it's from "MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC"

  • It's from the Tv series they did called "Make your own kind of music"

  • Karen has the most beautiful voice that there ever will be. No one can match up to her greatness in my opinion. I wish I could have known her. Love you Karen.

  • i agree..her voice is truly spectacular...the best female voice ever in my opinion.

  • Beautiful song. Peace.

  • Oh..

    I'm just alike her....

  • grabbbbbbbbbbbbeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    ka in love

  • whenever i hear Karen's voice, it reminds me of a beautiful sunny afternoon and I am sitting under the shade of a big tree, embraced by the wind...her voice is truly wonderful, a voice that will continue to live in the heart of the people who've learned to love one of God's masterpiece!

We love you Karen, we will miss you forever!

  • Your sentiment is similar to what Herb Alpert said when he first heard a demo of her voice.

  • I love this song. Lots of speculation over her anorexia. I think anyone who stands out in front of a crowd will have hang ups about how they look. Look at all the celebs having work done to their faces in the hope to stay young. Look at Michael Jackson or Barbra Streisand. I'm not a huge star but I am an actor and I too have felt weary about my shape when on stage. Am I too thin? Too fat? Not muscley enough etc. We'll never know. Love u Karen x

  • such beutiful voice, she sings like the wind through the leaves in sunny days on top of mountin with waterfalls, everytime i hear her she takes me away from this sad world .such shame to leave this world and for no reason.god bless her soul

  • Miss you so KC...

In 2 days I am travelling from Aus to LA to visit your grave... Just to say thanks...

KC you are and always will be number 1

  • Karen Carpenter is Fantastic! But I must comment on this strange dichotomy in human behavior,Most men have the hots for Pamela Anderson types,But Strangely enough fall in love with Karen Carpenter. Most women go for hunky, macho types like,Stallone,Schwarznegger,Vin Diesel "real men",types but then swoon over Barry Manilow singing sweet and tender love songs to them.Whats up with this? They want sex with one, fall in love with the other?Apparently, sometimes love and sex can be two seperate things.

  • There is someone to blame for what happened to her, the person who wrote the review calling her 'chubby.' It sent her on a dieting binge that killed her. Just like the people who called Michael Jackson 'eww' and said 'he's ugly not cute anymore' to him in the store when he was a teenager sent him on the wild facial surgery kick. Two people dead because of rude comments. Who says words can't hurt? People need to realize it's not funny if it damages somebody.

  • I LOVE her dress, and wish girls could still wear stuff like that these days without some snotty person going 'eww'. It's a beautiful look. She was gorgeous, just the way she was.

  • Wonderful, such an expresive singer!!

  • Just soooooo beautiful WOOOOOOOOW thanx

  • KarenSpirit. Vox angelica.

  • None of the singers mentioned can touch Karen Carpenters, She was the best, the others can batlle for 2nd place.

  • wraps the world in its hypnotic glory!! xx

  • I love the Carpenters and I especially love Karen Carpenter and her incredible voice. She is very sadly missed, but what a gift she left behind. These songs are like gold.

  • oh my, she´s perfect, as always

  • The truth is........ there are no words thats can describe how beautiful karen's voice really is.

  • Has there ever been a better female vocalist? She was so good, it's hard to name someone better than her.

  • She does have a good voice but, for my generation Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, , Alicia Keys, and Celin Dion have great voices.

  • christina aquilera is a fake out of the singers u mentioned

all the other ones are good

    anyway

    go karen!

  • Christina Aguilera is a stupid whore just as Alicia Keys.

  • But, I don't see them starve themselves to death.

  • What does it have to do with their voice? We are talking about voice now, aren't we?

  • Sine you said Whore I say starve =P

  • Karen had one thing the others of "your generation" do not have....Class.

  • @Loner4hire

Not sure who you're refering to, or what "generation" you're talking about, but I'm assuming a younger one. I'm 20 years old and that's offensive to me as we're not all classless idiots. The idiots ruin it for the rest of us...but I can personally say that I truely respect Karen and her brother. They're amazing and I can only wish I were around during their time.

  • Good for you, Ashlee5665. At 20, you have a great life opportunity ahead. When I was your age, in 1974, there were lots of idiots as well. Being in the US Army back then was hugely unpopular. But there were lots of good people I met, and came to realize what we read in the papers is distorted towards the negative. I make it a point to eat at a diner twice a week where today's young people work and put themselves through school. Lots of good youth out there, including my own kids.

  • no im sorry i dont think anyone measures up to karen carpenters amazing and overwhelmingly haunting voice....no matter what generation you are

  • Aside fromt he obvious beauty of this song and Karen's voice, I think the piano is so beautiful in this song.

  • Did people really wear dresses like that in 1971???!!

  • Yes, particularly if they were modest and ladylike, as was Karen Carpenter. Besides, with talent and beauty like Karen's, the dress is irrelevant.

  • such a wonderful song! piercing into the heart of anyone wanting to find love, found love and nurturing a love. A song from heaven from a fantastic duo of very talented souls! thanks for posting.

  • Love finding these gems of music video. KC and RC made great mu
