  • @ er10b - It's pressure operated !

Like a normal pipe organ, but the key opens a valve to exhause the air through the reed which then vibrates ot make the sound.

  • fantastic! these are wonderful little creations, amazing how tuneful it is for just 14 notes! and there are around 50 titles on the tunes list that you can get!

it may seem like a daft question, but is there any shut off for the keys when the book finishes playing? would all the notes sound at once if the book finished playing and you continue cranking the handle?

also I was wondering does the cardboard book music require any protection from wear from the mechanical keys?

  • @IanPostlethwaite there's no shutoff AFAIK just like other musical boxes.

It's probably vacuum operated - but I'm not sure.

  • @IanPostlethwaite , Hi, there is no cut off - as you can see from the price they are very good value, so no need for cut offs with a hand cranked organ - just stop cranking ! If you wanted to motorise, it could be done by making a nother key that would operate a valve to shut the main air on or off.

The card will out last the keys ! Beleive it or not, but cardboard is actually harder wearing and as with most keyed organs, the tips do get worn down after many years of playing.

  • It would be great if you could show us how an old timey Organ Grinder would do it, with most of them being very out of key and inept and annoying the hell out of people. I'm curious as to what the sound that Charles Dickens complained about was.

  • I've just finished buiding one from a kit. Straight forward to build & absolutely superb when finished.

  • it just strikes me as too much percussive on the side of the key-frame mechanics... ever pondered putting dampers underneath?? some thick felt might do the trick...

  • @theorganguy

Hello, yes we do fit dampers. In real life the key sound is hardly noticeable now.

We must take a new video to show, but haven't had chance !

  • i have been looking at your website today, i really badly want to buy a busker organ but it is wayyy out of my price range.

i have a question, with the music box one you can make your own music cards can you do the same with this one?

  • Hi,

Yes, if you fancy having a go at arranging yourself, just email the midi file to N J Dean & Co and they will punch the music on cardboard for you.

  • Save up your money! We did, and haven't regretted it. This is about the lowest price you can expect to pay for a genuine street organ.

  • I once saw one that ran on a cd or mp3 player, but for the life of me I can not find it now. Do you know where I could obtain one like this?

  • We've never made these electronic. These are REAL mechanical organs, not imitation.

If you've seen something on mp3 or CD it wouldn't be real, but playing an electronic or media simulation.

  • and also you can get it from njdean's website

  • you can buy these & the music box from magical music boxes . com

  • Fantastic!!! Great sound!!!! I would like to have one... Do you know if have some company that sells them? How do you create the paper with holes (musical sheets)? Tks a lot for sharing, Gabriel Lehto

  • Well, Alan Pell sells them for about £950, and the music will be obtainable from him, and maybe others
