Somewhere on Youtube, there is another video showing the actual discharge of the gun and how, far from being handcuffed, Grant had actually broken free of the officers holding him, the very second the gun went off. He had been fighting them the whole time and they had no idea if he was armed or not. That's why Mehserle attempted to either draw his gun or his taser (not clear which he intended). He was WELL justified in doing so. Mehserle accidentally yanked on the trigger while drawing it.
