  • Awesome, thank you for this. Been trying to learn this one for years and filtering out the bassline from the song has helped, but this is much easier to work with!

I heard that Rourke and Marr have known each other since they were kids and have a long history of jamming, so it makes sense that Marr would have suggested things for Rourke to play, but the guy is a beast on the bass, and even though I don't know for a fact, it sounds to me like the guy came up with his own lines

  • Marr has said in various interviews that he gave Rourke creative control of the basslines :)

  • @Smownage the tone of rourke is playing with a pick and always having nice new strings

  • Quality tune. You've absolutely nailed that Rourke tone.

  • Hi, man, very, very cool, great job...

I love this song, it is cool for singing too...

  • brilliant, nailed it :)

  • do you know how to play the lead guitar? if so, you should post it.

  • this song has been stuck in my head for a week

  • I dont believe Marr wrote the basslines, next thing youll be telling us he wrote the drum parts too.

The guy was/is a musical genius, but I'm not having it

  • nice one brother!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Totally agree with your description :)

One of my favourite Smiths songs :)!

    great job!

  • very cool man, probably my fav smiths song

  • Class. thanks for posting this, it shows how much Andy Rourke contributed to Marrs melodies. Top job Mister.

  • hey buddy...you're wrong... marr wrote the bassline too.

  • No, Marr did not write the bassline. Rourke is an awesome bass player.

  • Agree with Manyute, Marr wrote everything except the lyrics. Rourke was a good bassist though, for a smackhead.

  • As Cometary Gates is number one played on my ipod...you go to suppose its on of my fav's...but listening to this has opened up a new level to it all. Cant listen to it now without taking note of the great bass line. I owe you one!

  • Hey good work. Andy Rourke watch your back.

  • Very nice, man! You got it! How about This Charming Man, the bassline of the basslines?
