you can use any standard controller or joystick as long as its not modified so that you can cheat(programmable ones) most of the games were played with playstation joysticks/controllers and if the game was on dreamcast they often used ps->dc converters. Third strike was played on the ps2 version
@Zeronum2 Their should be EVO just fails at enforcing stick and pad rules they should do what MLG and all the other leagues do and say Wired only if you don't have a wired one then to bad.all the issues with Wireless controllers get annoying at tournaments

My question is: What are the rules regarding controllers/sticks? Cany you use either and do anyone actually use regular controllers for the game?
