Anyone who can work should. When Paul gave this mandate it was because there was a lot of lazy people sitting around waiting for handouts. He wasn't speaking to the poor, those that were sick, or the elderly. He was addressing those that could work, but refused to do so. Incidentally, Paul was a preacher of the gospel, but he was also a tent maker, he worked with his own hands to support himself. If Paul supported himself and his ministry, why should we support lazy preachers living in luxury?
@Bigonecita when you preach it should come out of your heart. As you receive freely you give freely no price tag. IF ANYONE ASKS OR SEEKS MONEY FOR PREACHING HE IS NOT OF GOD BUT OF SATAN. student is not higher then his teacher, and why should student get paid and not Teacher. if you preach you will receive Gospel food, if don't preach no food will been given to you.
