yeaah..i will go ahead and never watch that again, perfect example of somthing that is not funny..
myabe its original, but it fucking sucks like nothing else...blablabla all the brits gonna come now and cry over it, just my opinion NON british non US citizen..
and since US Office is played in couple more countries well thats says whats better.
@sharky0922 Nah. Don't get me wrong, the US version is funny. It has standard sitcom humour and that's fine - it's nice to watch something where there's easy, in-your-face jokes. The UK though, doesn't cater to a dumb audience. It knows there's humour in subtlety. For that reason, the laughs go over people's heads.
@sharky0922 It's only played in more countries cos its easier to understand - both comedy and accent wise. Audience size doesnt correlate to programme quality - just watch the X factor.
@sharky0922 you feel that way because the American version only requires the IQ of an orange too get the humor and you just about make the cut, the original office actually has smart humor in it, so for THICK people like you it's not ideal. Also you sir are a very stupid individual if you measure the quality of a show by how many countries it's shown in, your obviously just ashamed of your country since you feel the need too hide it in your profile details LOL
I can't believe these yanks trying to argue their office is better when they copied us, havnt even the brains to be original you have to copy the witty Brits. I watched the American version And it was painfully unfunny
@pologt175 WHHHAAAT??? The american office is hilarious. Im not saying is better than the british original, becasue i never seen it, but the American version is hella funny
fox first. go back over the river, take grain, return with fox, take chicken, return with grain, take fox, return with chicken, take grain, return, take chicken?
To put it into an analogy; The Office UK was like an original, one-off, privately owned family store that catered to the subtle, more discerning shopper. Where-as The Office USA is like a giant shopping-mall. Gaudy, lowest common denominator, mass-plebian-pandering, with loads of morbidly obese monkeys walking around in nylon track-suits, stuffing their faces with sugary-fatty foods, not knowing when to stop, & then going to the movies to watch some film with loads of CGI, explosions & no plot.
The fact that their has only been 2 series makes the each episode even more special and entertaining and maintains its 'classic' status, where as if you do series after series of episodes, the content can become dry and no longer unique and it can lose status. Similar to the Simpsons. They've overdone it, and thats what could happen with the US. The UK version was watched by loads and loved by loads, they didnt ditch it due to unpopularity or anything like that
omg you americans are ALL the same, ricky ended it, instead of milking it for as much money and as many seasons as possible like nearly every American sitcom, the ratings were really high, it won many awards and it has loads of christmas specials. can't you understand the the writers of the show wanted to end it after the 2nd series?
well really, you brits are ALL the same, high-ended and uppity just for the sake of being original; why did the show end after two seasons? Why couldn't they have prolonged it to its natural length as it was so obvious they rushed in wrapping everything up making it seem contrived and bitter; they had to have achristmas special for the finale which felt like a weakly transparent epilogue. i don't say this to insult the show, i very much liked the show but it couldv been better managed
"Why couldn't they have prolonged it to its natural length" 2series was it's natural length, why do you have trouble understanding that? the show ended, the writers had finished with it, what part of that don't you understand?
@JoshRobertson142 oh really? is that why they had to tie up ALL the loose ends sloppily in a christmas special rather than pacing the events evenly throughout another season?
ahh yh another season lasting 1 episode clever idea.. it was a really good ending, i don't have a clue what you're upset by, because a christmas special was the last episode? get over it.
@JoshRobertson142 Lol. I agree. I'm American and yes, we do beat tv shows into the ground. Which you can plainly see by our version of this show and it's current season. I stopped watching it two seasons ago, it's terrible and over the top. While the original was good because it was realistic and felt like an actual office and was not over the top ridiculous. If a show lasts too long, they run out of ideas and must resort to stupid crap, which is what ours is now.
@bazonics i'd rather you fuck off, i was just trying to have an open dialogue comparing the two series' and all you tight-assed Brits are taking it so damn personally, i wonder why the english always have to subject Americans to their lousy pushy ways. now please, piss off
@MIS315 Jeez, didn't take long to find the chip on your shoulder, I was only talking for me mate, not 60 million Briish. (I do have a nice tight hetro ass though). I watched a few episodes of office USA and didn't care for it much, so I avoid it on youtube like the plague. I certainly dont' go on them and then moan about it. Thing is you Yanks do some types of comedy briiiantly, we can't match it.
@MIS315 Other forms we do well at and you're no good at. (look at American versions of fawlty towers or red dwarf for example). BTW Fawlty Towers, 12 episodes and thats it, end of. I used to love the Simpsons but haven't watched one in years, come on boys finish it already! I'll piss of now cheers x
@bazonics i'll agree that in most cases american televised sitcoms are extended far past their prime to the point of becoming stale where it's almost like whipping a dead horse (like with the simpsons) but i can't understand why certain promising british shows always bail out when they finally gain momentum from viewers. it's like cashing in all your chips because the stakes get too high, wtf? its damn frustrating
@MIS315 Yes I agree it's frustrating. I have 'the office' box set and script books (saddo) Only watch clips on youtube bcs I like to read the comments, and would crawl over broken glass for another series, but it's not to be. I think where the British and American systems differ is where as our shows tend to be concieved and written by one or two persons...
@MIS315 ...your shows are concieved somewhere high up and script writers are hired, often 10 at a time, these can be replaced and no one can tell the difference. Look at 'Roseanne' talk about jump the shark, a great show that went way passed its sell by date. Imagine how long Matt Groening could of kept going if only he alone wrote the simpsons? It can happen over here too though. Only fools and horses should have finished at least 2 series before it did.
@bazonics matt groening might get a bit too much credit, the writers are what made the simpsons great; i think theres a correlation of the show's descent in quality when conan obrien left
We Brits will Love the UK version because it's our type of humour subtle and clever. Where as Americans will probably like the US version more because it's more in your face and slapstick. Different cultures and different opinions simple as that.
take the chicken over, go back pick up the fox, drop the fox over, pick up the chicken, go back over, drop off the chicken, pick up the grain, take the grain over to the fox and drop it off, then go back for the chicken, SOLVED
gervais is an absolute genius what an insult to say the US version was better, better in that it wasn't actually funny it reminded me of the germans when tried doing fwalty towers now that was funny for all the wrong reasons.

No the us version isn't waaaayyyyy better it's just different they're both great shows. Anyone who likes the us office should be thankful that the uk office opened the door for comedies like these.
I think that both versions are good, even though I'm originally a bigger fan of the British Office myself. I think the issue is that we are conditioned to like what we have been raised with in our culture. Here in America humor is more forward and in your face, whereas British humor is a bit dryer and more subtle. I also regret having to say that American humor just isn't founded on intelligent subject matter the majority of the time. It's more about physical humor and sex/fart jokes.
the thing with the yanks programmes is they dont know when to stop, i mean, look at lost, started out ok now it just drags on and on and on, its shite. should have stopped at season 2. brit programmes know when to stop, just like this 1
what i have noticed, the humor is the same (uk vs. us), its the language and slang usage that sometime messes up timing. also, ricky & steve portray a character with similar ignorance & values, but, imo, steve's delivery is way more obtuse, bordering on belligerent
yeah but only lasted 14 episodes where as the US version is going on 100 somthing episodes and is shown all over the world. US 1. Uk 0. Fact Bears eat beets. That is true Jim. Bears beets Battlestar Galactica. LOL classic US
The Office only lasted 14 episodes because Ricky Gervais WANTED the series to only last that long. He was offered to continue it by BBC but decided he had told the parts of the story he wanted to, so he ended it. The Office was shown all over the world as well, so I really don't see whatever point you're trying to prove.
What is wrong with you, you fucking idioit. Gervais stopped the series because he wanted all of the episodes to be of the highest quality, and didn't want to drag it out like the US version has. UK -1. US -0
Ey? Upset? I thought I was being quite dry and humourous... my bad. You seem to have a need to claim some sort of victory over people, whatever man, I'm not sure what your agenda is tbh, but your a lil wierd.
Just because the US wants their version to go on until it's terrible such as THE SIMPSONS etcetera - doesn't mean that this is bad, seeing as this was the original content and the american's can't produce any ideas of their own - you're stealing the IT crowd now, that'll suck - because your filthy yank minds won't be able to handle it.
The U.K. version (in my humble opinion) has much better dialoge than the U.S. version, but the U.S. version has much better Character humor (Michael and Dwights antics, Jim's pranks) so you can say both shows act as a complete and utter counterbalance to each other. Anyway just a humble observation. Cheers
they should merge uk and us characters in an international office. it could be a great show. david with michael, tim with dwight, so many possibilities....
actually, if you've watched both, you'll notice that in the US version, the overweight employee from Stanford at the merger (when Michael tries to get him on the table and he quits) is actually the same actor as the overweight employee from the UK version.
or, they have extremely similar appearances, could be twins.
but with your idea, I don't think it'd work because the two shows are so wildly different. I don't think either target audience would like it.
maybe it would be a big challenge but with good writers i can imagine it happening. the actor you talk about is not the same of the uk version. im sure because i have both series on dvd. anyway, not all characters are compatible in a uk us version but i can imagine david brent, tim, garreth, big keith (the fat you mentioned) and dawn raising hell in us.
Both the US Office and UK Office are great, based on the similarities and differences. How about we all just get along and appreciate each for what it is :)
@s5kozlowski And wouldn't it have been pointless if all the US episodes had just used the scripts for the UK version...(as did the first episode/ pilot?)...Diferent styles - twice the fun...something for different tastes.
Hilarious-Uk version or american version. To each their own! UK has a wider diversity with the accents and seems to have a drier humour.. For me that's better. Different strokes n al that!
I'm american and have been a fan of the BBC's The office since I first got to watch it in.2002? loved it ever since!! never saw the U.S. version.. i honestly have my doubts, US humor is different and I dont want it to ruin my fav show
lol i knoooow im in the same boat.. FYI tho, my sister and brother both loved UK office like i did and have now moved onto the US version "succesfully"!!
Lol since writing that comment I've got into the US version, but to say the UK version is bad is a joke. It's ratings got higher as it ran longer, and it ended higher than it had ever been before, the christmas specials then got even higher ratings.
Mate fair enough you don't like the UK version but get it right, oh yeah both series got golden globes as well. Noone would cancel a show like that.
you take the chicken first over the bridge, then you walk back and brings the bag of grain over the bridge, after that you walk back with the chicken and takes the fox over the bridge, then you walk back pick up the chicken and voila! all three items are over the bridge
i never watched the UK because in my country there is the american version but this clip is so funny!!! both versions are hysterical funny at the same amount
@stevenoz7 you're stupid haha, ricky gervais and stephen merchant are responsible for both versions, and they both moved onto something called 'extras' which they did 2 series of and was also MASSIVELY successful over here. Loving your ignorance it's so funny
LMAO thats funny, and for the people out there goin back and forth between the office uk and the us version, tv shows are for enjoyment like clips such as this, its not a competiton. So just watch whatever and laugh now and then. :-D
haha omg poor garreth. i remember when he thought he had a chance on that pretty girl who worked there, and he insisted that she would make tim use a comdom on her before leaving her to him afterwards. that was so awkward! :D
The "office uk" is the original. Which makes it "The Office", and the US version is "The Office US". The Office is also about a thousand times better than the US version, which is funny only in that it completely defeats the point.
incidentally, while I was writing this it came to my attention that youtube is the shittest website on the internet.
Big man eh? I can just picture you at home typing that one in furiously on your keyboard at home. Get a life, maybe an education and then try another comeback.
The man and the chicken cross the river, (the fox and corn are safe together), he leaves the chicken on the other side and goes back across.
The man then takes the fox across the river, and since he can't leave the fox and chicken together, he brings the chicken back. Again, since the chicken and corn can't be left together, he leaves the chicken and he takes the corn across and leaves it with the fox.
He then returns to pick up the chicken and heads across the river one last time.
The US version rapes the UK version..

erm, hello i am a chicken thank you tim for leaving me with my favourite food
gareth is my favourite character ever!
the office is amazing!
harrieto1 2 years ago
this one is pretty brilliant.
what i have noticed, the humor is the same (uk vs. us), its the language and slang usage that sometime messes up timing. also, ricky & steve portray a character with similar ignorance & values, but, imo, steve's delivery is way more obtuse, bordering on belligerent
RLTester001 2 years ago
lolololol
Both versions are wonderful. Excellent actors and excellent writing.
Songsmirth 2 years ago
its not the "Office UK" its simply the Office, it was around way longer than the US version.
ryeax23 2 years ago 3
yeah but only lasted 14 episodes where as the US version is going on 100 somthing episodes and is shown all over the world. US 1. Uk 0. Fact Bears eat beets. That is true Jim. Bears beets Battlestar Galactica. LOL classic US
Wolverine121496 2 years ago
The Office only lasted 14 episodes because Ricky Gervais WANTED the series to only last that long. He was offered to continue it by BBC but decided he had told the parts of the story he wanted to, so he ended it. The Office was shown all over the world as well, so I really don't see whatever point you're trying to prove.
MastaBlaze86 2 years ago 4
What is wrong with you, you fucking idioit. Gervais stopped the series because he wanted all of the episodes to be of the highest quality, and didn't want to drag it out like the US version has. UK -1. US -0

@stevenoz7 stupid comments exactly
DaltonSanitarium 1 year ago

Cheers
EvilDeadJoe 2 years ago 36
they should merge uk and us characters in an international office. it could be a great show. david with michael, tim with dwight, so many possibilities....
ilovemyjava 2 years ago 2
They have discussed doing an episode like that on the U.S. office, but none of our actors have been able to pull it off yet
EvilDeadJoe 2 years ago
actually, if you've watched both, you'll notice that in the US version, the overweight employee from Stanford at the merger (when Michael tries to get him on the table and he quits) is actually the same actor as the overweight employee from the UK version.
or, they have extremely similar appearances, could be twins.
but with your idea, I don't think it'd work because the two shows are so wildly different. I don't think either target audience would like it.
Nearlyprescient 2 years ago
maybe it would be a big challenge but with good writers i can imagine it happening. the actor you talk about is not the same of the uk version. im sure because i have both series on dvd. anyway, not all characters are compatible in a uk us version but i can imagine david brent, tim, garreth, big keith (the fat you mentioned) and dawn raising hell in us.

Both the US Office and UK Office are great, based on the similarities and differences. How about we all just get along and appreciate each for what it is :)
s5kozlowski 2 years ago 27
@s5kozlowski And wouldn't it have been pointless if all the US episodes had just used the scripts for the UK version...(as did the first episode/ pilot?)...Diferent styles - twice the fun...something for different tastes.

Take the chicken first. Get the wolf, and take the chicken back. Now leave the chicken and take the grain. Go back and pick up the chicken.
Jinchu86 2 years ago 2
Hilarious-Uk version or american version. To each their own! UK has a wider diversity with the accents and seems to have a drier humour.. For me that's better. Different strokes n al that!
Sueness 2 years ago 5
I'm american and have been a fan of the BBC's The office since I first got to watch it in.2002? loved it ever since!! never saw the U.S. version.. i honestly have my doubts, US humor is different and I dont want it to ruin my fav show

lol i knoooow im in the same boat.. FYI tho, my sister and brother both loved UK office like i did and have now moved onto the US version "succesfully"!!

UK version failed and it showed...end of story...how many episodes??? lol
stevenoz7 2 years ago
Lol since writing that comment I've got into the US version, but to say the UK version is bad is a joke. It's ratings got higher as it ran longer, and it ended higher than it had ever been before, the christmas specials then got even higher ratings.
Mate fair enough you don't like the UK version but get it right, oh yeah both series got golden globes as well. Noone would cancel a show like that.

if hes gay he shouldnt be allowed near animals hahahahaa

you take the chicken first over the bridge, then you walk back and brings the bag of grain over the bridge, after that you walk back with the chicken and takes the fox over the bridge, then you walk back pick up the chicken and voila! all three items are over the bridge

idk i think the american one is way funnnier, maybe if u guys worked in a real office you would understand y
arsalan1993 2 years ago
i have worked in a real office, and i've gotta say that the uk version is way better than the us version, mainly for how realistic it is.
first 3 seasons of office US: actually pretty good mockumentary, with great little moments of realism.
any season after that: total shite sitcom that gets made purely because of it's success and not if it's any good.
Office UK: best mockumentary ever made.

No, you are stupid, The Office UK is perhaps the best tv series ever. The US version has its moments but is nowhere near as good.

So is that why it ended so abuptly? Keep thinking he ended it...he got paid.
stevenoz7 2 years ago
@stevenoz7 you're stupid haha, ricky gervais and stephen merchant are responsible for both versions, and they both moved onto something called 'extras' which they did 2 series of and was also MASSIVELY successful over here. Loving your ignorance it's so funny

its stupid because you dont understand because youre used to insanely obvious humour, i.e american humour. this is clever and sophisticated

haha omg poor garreth. i remember when he thought he had a chance on that pretty girl who worked there, and he insisted that she would make tim use a comdom on her before leaving her to him afterwards. that was so awkward! :D

What?!
The "office uk" is the original. Which makes it "The Office", and the US version is "The Office US". The Office is also about a thousand times better than the US version, which is funny only in that it completely defeats the point.
incidentally, while I was writing this it came to my attention that youtube is the shittest website on the internet.
