every dog has potential, but he would only need to jump 20" to 26" depending on what club ur in. i would try dock jumping with him, because poodles love water
He seems like he's a good dog, but i would really suggest taking some professional training for agility. It is great fun, but slightly expensive, depending on where you live. You seem to have put a lot of work into training him so far, so really the best advice I can give is find the best teacher you can and have a lot of fun with your dog!
Every dog has potention to do Agility. But, like evertone did say, the jump as way too high. Not very good for his joints either! Especially for such a large dog!
Agility requires more then jumping, there is weave poles and A frames and pause tables and tunnels and many other obstacles, and you don't have a leash on when preforming.
I hope you didn't PURPOSELY breed the Giant Schnauzer and the Standard Poodle together. 'There are already enough mixed breed dogs at the homeless shelters and on the streets who die every day. If you are going to breed a dog, be responsible and do it to better a breed. If the breeding was an accident, please spay or neuter your pets to make sure it doesn't happen again. The homeless animals will truly appreciate it. Thanks :)
I also think that this hurdle was way to high for a dog that is teaching how to do basic agility, I do agility for 2 years now and if Iet my dog jump that high for the first time I would kill its paws (and not just a first time but anytime). Especially when its on an hard ground.Okay the dog is pretty big but dogs aren't intended to jump, especially that high. But with the other hurdles I see a dog that might be a good agility dog if its trained in an agility class.
This is very frightening! You know the jumping dog jumped right into/onto another dog. You're playing with fire by not being aware of your surroundings (I can't believe both these dogs weren't hurt!), by asking this dog to jump over an object that is not forgiving (and will ABSOLUTELY cause injury to your dog when he miss judges his performance and crashes), by playing on a hard surface, by playing in such a littered environment. Please enroll this dog and handler in an positive agility class.
wow its a kid having fun with her dog and if you actually payed attention to the video then you would see that the dog is willing to go over the jump. know it all
He does jump very high, to be a begineer. Although you shouldn't jump him on concrete. But he does jump at an amazing height! I think someday he can become an excellent agility dog! :D
he can do it but u snatched him over that brick thingy let him be jesus!! and jumping up onto a deck if he landed wrong it would break his leg my advice stop jumping him!
don't jump him so high like that on such a hard surface like that deck. that is reallly tough on his joints, not a good idea. but otherwise he looks ok, just no leash!
I think that he has a lot of potential and I think that even though he was on a leash he stayed with you and he look like he was having a lot of fun. I think that you should take him to an agility park and start working on teeter-totters and tunnels! Great job!
And one more thing, don't JUST use voice commands, try hand signals too, at times they work alot better than voice commands. Atleast, that's the case with my dog. X3
I have a 4 year old IG and I have been training him in agility sence he was 2 and me and him do about 5 local shows a year and we live in a small town, so maybe you should enter your dog in some local shows. It worked training my dog he can jump 3 ft!
He is lifting his back legs over him over the big jump. That means the jump is too big but, he is great and the jump is okay but, i wouldnt go too much higher. I think he'd be great in agility
Any dog has potential and Herbie is no exception. Jumps make up the majority of agility, so it's good that he's so into them. But you'll need to take classes eventually, unless you have comp. equipment (very expensive) and tons of agility training experience.
There still is stuff you can do without too much equipment, here are some suggestions:
1] Teach Herbie to follow you around w/o a leash
2] Perfect his come, stay and down
3] Play games like fetch, that get his athletic ability up
i think he will amke a great agility dog let us know how u get on i have started with my collie and jack rusell so yeah get in that arena and have some fun he looks confident so y not introduce him to classes where he can learn the dog walk etc or makeyour own
he's an amazing jumper... but to do agility he'd need to do a lot more than jump. anyway he's an amazing dog! and you must be a pretty good owner if he's willing to do all that for you!
Hell yeah! Give it a shot. Even though he's a big dog, the highest he'd have to jump if you show AKC is like 24" or 26"--not nearly the height of that wall the end.
try not to jump him over 22in for practice.. in competition he would probably jump 26in... but dont jump on concrete, itb cud hurt him... YES I THINK U SHOULD TRY AGILITY THOUGH!
yes he defenitly has the potential for being agility worthy. but try not to work him too hard on the jumping. try challenging his mind with the weave pole and tunnle and tidder todder. those are all challening ones that could confuse a dog. and like the first person said dont jump him too high. but other than that he has great potental and speed. great job!
he is definatly a potential agility dog! just make sure your not jumping him too high, like on the "brick wall" jump, and it's on a good surface like grass, but great job on working with him! everybody starts out somewhere and you definatly don't HAVE to go to a trianer, i've never been to one and i'm doing just fine and if i have questions i just ask somebody on here.
I would suggest signing up for a foundations agility class before anything else. Any dog can learn to jump. The difference between a National dog and a Backyard dog (in agility) is the communication between dog and handler, good contacts, good signals, etc. All can be found/learned in a good foundations class.

I completely agree. However, when someone says that they have never done agility before and don't know what they are doing, I would highly recommend at least a foundations class so the handler can learn how to help their dog stay as safe as possible. (in learning things like proper techniques, dog stretching, etc.) "A person can learn to swim, but taking a swimming lessons always adds to your own personal safety and wisdom."
i do not think that jumping on such hard ground is good for herbie's joints at all. i also think that he is jumping way too high and landing on waht looks like a balcony could really hurt him. He's also really young. My dogs are a little over two years old and have potential to jump like Herbie does but i keep them jumping really low grids every once and while. Definitely not regularly. Please don't hurt the dog.
i think he would do great i did the same one day i just set up some jumps and told my little border collie to jump it and he loves to jump but i dont compeat i did go in a class to tearn more about it and he was the best one there so keep on going dont stop!!
Yeah great potential!! Add tunnels and also a little tip I learned: To train if you put ground poles before&after the jump he'll knock down less poles.
Teach him tunnels and to run fast and then you have got a great speed agility dog (only tunnels and jumps.) My terrier does the speed agility. He loves tunnels and jumps! I would suggest not jumping so high because it doesn't really matter. Jump him about 3 in bigger than you show, but that's it. Also jump oxers, x's, poles, ect. Make him really think where he puts his feet!
Yeah, he has definite potential for agility. Like she said, jumping on such hard surfaces is bad for your dog. Do it all on the grass if possible. Happy training =)
i want to put my dog in agility but i don't think my father woud let me but she can jumping realy hight if she wanted too and nice doig did you train him every day or what?
not to be mean or anything but i didn't get my dog to jump every day but we can jump realy high well for every dog it's not the same and my dog's 3 years i neer trained her for 2 years so we started this year i guess.
any dog has potential to run agility and from what i see...he looks like he enjoys it...but dont jump him on such hard surfaces he could hurt his shoulders and hips a lot in the long run
I totaly think he does have good potential to be an agility dog!!!!...but to me it seems he isn't warmed up well during the high jump, which was amizing and well preformed XD...just to say as a tip and...as i found out, causes less injury, is to just strech the dog and maybe run him around a little befor jumping...it's like us streching :)...im telling you this b/c i learned it the hard way...;(

he is a really good jumper! I set up jumps for my 19 year old cat and she jumps just fine, so if he is a large young dog he can jump high. He is a lovely dog!
I agree with everyone else, you can have him jump that high though on softer surfaces.....
