I met Joe in 1978 when he and I both played Jersey circuit. He was in Phantom's Opera with AJ Such (BonJovi). I took few lessons from Joe, wish I had a fraction of his ability! My band opened for BB & Stingers in 2005, Joe still amazing!
I took lessons off Joe for a few years and I've yet to meet anyone with as much raw talent as he has. He's the real deal. Must be something in that Jersey water.

he's so good at drumming. i can't believe there's people here saying he sucks. It's clear that they know nothing about drummers.
SG and DT are my favourite bands. They're so fucking good. but i like DT better. I think its musicians are slightly better. but in vocal terms SG beats DT because Labrie sucks
Dude this guy is a god at drumming and is an awesome teacher i would now cuz hes been teaching me for about 2 and a half years now. And now im forming a band. Hes taught me so much and he makes the hardest stuff so easy to learn he kicks ass!!!
joe's a really good dude & a rediculously talented drummer.pretty much a jersey shore legend.i 1st saw him w greg howe.he was rolling the stix up & down his arm while soloing
You dont know him you fuckin ass, besides you dont know the first thing about drums i assume. He is a legend and I am honored to personally know him. He is not imitating Bonham he's just playing a Zeppelin song much like1,000,000,000 other bands do. Why dont you take a trip to his studio is called Big Beats and tell him he sucks I'm sure he'll kick your ass on any drum kit.

I'm sorry man, Shadow Gallery rulez, but Scenes from a Memory is unbeatable
Shadow Gallery's Tyranny CD is the benchmark that Dream Theater has never been able to reach (but they will keep on trying while capturing the masses).
DT, SG, Symphony X... etc, these guys are all so good they could play each others stuff if they wanted to. So all this talk of who's best is a little ill-advised. Whose songwriting is better? That is essentially a subjective discussion.
Everyone here and on MySpace who have met the SG members all say how they are all so friendly and nice. It's great to see these guys are good people as well as talented musicians. Joe and Gary's students are fortunate.
I studied with Joe for many years many years ago he was a great friend teacher but I stopped playing when I also realized that I sucked and quit. last band I remember him with literally was some glam metal band with a lady singer who was attractive. I have video of it good rats and other bands he was in jeez this is like over 20 years ago did you know he was 2nd to Eric Carr... lost over the singing issue. He was bitter for a while over that.
Hahah I used to have drum lessons from this guy back in like 4th grade... but I got frustrated when I sucked and quit. He's truly an amazing drummer. You should see his drum solos from back in like '94 when he was in this national unsign drummer contest he placed third in. Fucking incredible. Plus he had hair back then =D
