@johnyboi1 Works ok on most cows . Do not use sexed semen on the thinner cows that are giving a lot of milk , cows that had calving problems and cows in their 3rd or later lactation
are cows ever dangerous?? Ive worked with cows on a small dairy farm (80 cows ish) in bristol and as i am only 13 there was this one cow that had just calved and i was not alowed in the pen she was in because she kicked aparently. She was not a holstien thogh. Have you ever been injured by a cow??
Cows can be dangerous. Milkers tend to usually be a bit more lenient because they are often in human company. Fresians and Holsteins are usually very good mothers to the calves, and will protect them. Im a dairyman myself and been injured before. Have been tossed by a heifer, kicked in the face by a cow - dont ever bend down near the cows in when your in the pit. Only last week a neighbour was in hospital for 3 days after being tossed by a bull. Dont let your guard down.
omg. I ddnt realise they where like that. i thought they where really docile. I am 14 and i am looking into buying some land and raising beef cows (from calves) and i wld be down there almost everyday. sow ld they be dangerous or wld they be a bit tamer?
They are pretty docile, dont get me wrong, you just never know what can happen. Most of my milkers are just like 'cowboys Katie, nice and calm. The more you work with the stock, the more used to you they get, aslong as you respect them, they respect you. Mostly.
the reason i want to keep them housed all year is because i want 200 holsteins indoors and 100 jerseys outdoors. if i was to have 300 cows outdoors i would need such a big farm it would be unreal. i was looking on farmers weekly and there was a 200 cows indoor unit and 150 acres for 2mil so if i was going to buy a farm when older it would be something like that because 150 acres would only just do 100 cows outdoor all year wouldnt it?
You will never eradicate mastitis, but you can do your level best to help control it. Clean vessels and teats, always use a teat spray or dip, well aired sheds etc. And also ensure you dont cross contaminate the cows yourself. Rapid treatment with Tetra Delta or the like. Buying a dairy unit depends on the market at that time, your background etc Start small, work hard, and progress.
so what sort of price would i be looking for a dairy farm (200 cow size) How much would i cost to run a 200 cow indoor farm?? and how much would i get from milk??
I couldnt honestly tell you. Im just the dairyman, i work for the farmer. You wont be able to accuratly cost that until you are more ready to buy, because land prices fluctuate and milk prices even worse.
thank you. When i am older i really want to own a dairy farm. I am going to agricultural college after school. How much does organic jersey milk sell for??
What i want to do is have a 365 day housed 200 cow holstein herd and a 100 cow organic jersey herd. Would that work??
It's great when you don't have to tie them up to breed, but watching the video I would think you shouldn't be touching the cow with your breeding sleeve, you'd want that sleeve kept clean so not to pull any bacteria into the cow.
li8ke it how what he said on the audio you substituted with clip, nice mate we've been havin few calves last week or so, few charolais and limousin cross
does the sexed semen do ok on cows? we just use it on maiden heifers

All year housing would promote disease and bacteria. Would find the herd would pick up mastitis frequently, even with perfect milking hygeine
Stuart3h 3 years ago
is there any way to prevent mastitis??
is it likley that i would be able to buy a dairy farm when im older or am i hopeing to much for something that wont happen??

Mcphlange 3 years ago
Not sure what bales are selling for this winter Will get a price for you.
