@xXxReptiles I was going to do one the other day but he wasnt out. I see them fairly often on kingsnakedotcom and faunaclassifiedsdotcom. Sorry I have to but dot instead of . or youtube wont post it. Just check on there daily, fauna usually has the better deals.
Awesome monitor! I'm thinking about getting an asian water monitor eventually so would you recommend getting an ackie and then an asian water monitor, getting something of more similar size such as a savannah monitor, or slowly increasing the size of monitors as time goes on? I'm open to suggestions from anyone btw.
@jabooper I dont think the slowly increasing the size is the right answer. I fell like some people could jump strait into a water and some might need to keep an ackie or something first. Just depends on your experience. If you have a ton of experience and the means to house a water I say do a TON of research and go for it.
i just got a female yellow last weekend. do you just buy bags of top soil? and if i got some play sand and mixed it with eco earth do you think that would hold a good borrow for her??
what do i do when i hav a power owtage and i own a lizard?Because i had a power owtage for 20 minutes but i was scared that the lights would be out for my lizard for too long so it might die. What should i do?!?!And the whole town doesnt hav power so i cant move the terrium
@EnterMaple Really the only thing you can do is buy a generator, or like a kerosine space heater. Unless it just gets super cold it should be fine without light for a while. Even something that really needs light, like a chameleon, would probly be fine for a day without light as long as the temps dont drop to low.
Hey I am 14 I have saved money for 2 years and I have 1.8 K For a reptile. Should I get an ackie? Or maby a beardeed dragon and have alot of money left.
@superphil92 If this is your first reptile I would definitely not get a monitor. I beardie would be a much better choice. They are still pretty hard to care for so make sure and do plenty of research. Monitors dont seem to much harder to care for on the surface, but they are definitely a lot harder.
@Ivory192 They are usually hard to find locally unless you go to a big reptile show. You can find them on the classified sections of kingsnake and faunaclassifieds. Reds usually run between $250 and $350. You can find yellow ackies for a little cheaper, and they look almost identical.
@zfones Like with any reptile, there is no specific wattage that it needs. It just need the right temps. So it really depends on the setup. Where I use a 50 watt flood lamp, you might need a higher wattage or 2 50 watts.
@reptiles0802 That might be a little small for an adult. I would atleast go to 4ft. They get feed every 6 days when young, then a little less when older. Really depends on the individual monitor
@megalizardfreak That could work for an adult. Its just harder to keep the correct climate in a larger area. And keep in mind an adult will need at least a foot of dirt/sand. To fill that size room would be a lot of dirt. Get on the monitor forum on kingsnake and ask what everyone thinks.
@kurtanglekobebryant No I do not use a uvb. They arent necessary. It cant hurt, but you dont need one. I dont use a nighttime bulb either because my room is heating in the upper 70s.
where did you buy the ackie?
ljcstuff 2 weeks ago
@ljcstuff I got it from a reptile show in Alabama. Somebody has baby yellows on faunaclassifieds for a really good price.

What did you use for the screen on the ackie's lid? I've tried everything and nothing has my screen on my lid strong enough to support a heat lamp.
