  • where did you buy the ackie?

  • @ljcstuff I got it from a reptile show in Alabama. Somebody has baby yellows on faunaclassifieds for a really good price.

  • Do you use a heat pad or do you just use a heat lamp? and any UVB?

  • @tmadegolfer14 Just heat lamp and no uvb.

  • Hey you should do an update on this guy, id really like to see him now. ive wanted an ackie for a while but theyre hard to find

  • @xXxReptiles I was going to do one the other day but he wasnt out. I see them fairly often on kingsnakedotcom and faunaclassifiedsdotcom. Sorry I have to but dot instead of . or youtube wont post it. Just check on there daily, fauna usually has the better deals.

  • @twillis10 ooh ok. i check fauna daily and kingsnake probably once a week. ill probably wait until i can get a couple of them to keep together.

  • Awesome monitor! I'm thinking about getting an asian water monitor eventually so would you recommend getting an ackie and then an asian water monitor, getting something of more similar size such as a savannah monitor, or slowly increasing the size of monitors as time goes on? I'm open to suggestions from anyone btw.

  • @jabooper I dont think the slowly increasing the size is the right answer. I fell like some people could jump strait into a water and some might need to keep an ackie or something first. Just depends on your experience. If you have a ton of experience and the means to house a water I say do a TON of research and go for it.

  • What did you use for the screen on the ackie's lid? I've tried everything and nothing has my screen on my lid strong enough to support a heat lamp.

  • what size tub is that?

  • i just got a female yellow last weekend. do you just buy bags of top soil? and if i got some play sand and mixed it with eco earth do you think that would hold a good borrow for her??

  • what do i do when i hav a power owtage and i own a lizard?Because i had a power owtage for 20 minutes but i was scared that the lights would be out for my lizard for too long so it might die. What should i do?!?!And the whole town doesnt hav power so i cant move the terrium

  • @EnterMaple Really the only thing you can do is buy a generator, or like a kerosine space heater. Unless it just gets super cold it should be fine without light for a while. Even something that really needs light, like a chameleon, would probly be fine for a day without light as long as the temps dont drop to low.

  • If j was going to use reptile bedding what the best option

  • Very very bad cage!! Buy a Terrarium !! Motherfucker

  • @Varanus23 How is the cage being a tub any different? It doesnt look as nice, but is functionally the same.

  • Comment removed

  • @Varanus23 Also it was just a temporary baby cage. Thanks for being a dick :)

  • @Varanus23 each to their own

  • Ok so do the need UVB or UVA at all because all the reptile I own need it but not leopard geckos

  • @djzane1 No monitors do not need uv. Some people use one anyways, its possible it helps with color.

  • Hey I am 14 I have saved money for 2 years and I have 1.8 K For a reptile. Should I get an ackie? Or maby a beardeed dragon and have alot of money left.

  • @superphil92 If this is your first reptile I would definitely not get a monitor. I beardie would be a much better choice. They are still pretty hard to care for so make sure and do plenty of research. Monitors dont seem to much harder to care for on the surface, but they are definitely a lot harder.

  • Were can u usuwlly get one ? And for how much ?

  • @Ivory192 They are usually hard to find locally unless you go to a big reptile show. You can find them on the classified sections of kingsnake and faunaclassifieds. Reds usually run between $250 and $350. You can find yellow ackies for a little cheaper, and they look almost identical.

  • @twillis10 there is a local store right next to my house, and this guy there sells nice red ackies there

  • @twillis10 what wattage bold does a ackie need

  • @zfones Like with any reptile, there is no specific wattage that it needs. It just need the right temps. So it really depends on the setup. Where I use a 50 watt flood lamp, you might need a higher wattage or 2 50 watts.

  • could you keep one in a3 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot ruubbermaid tub and how much and often do u feed these guys

  • @reptiles0802 That might be a little small for an adult. I would atleast go to 4ft. They get feed every 6 days when young, then a little less when older. Really depends on the individual monitor

  • is an 8by 8 tank ok for one or is it to much room fo because im donating my closet and its about that size.

  • @megalizardfreak That could work for an adult. Its just harder to keep the correct climate in a larger area. And keep in mind an adult will need at least a foot of dirt/sand. To fill that size room would be a lot of dirt. Get on the monitor forum on kingsnake and ask what everyone thinks.

  • i have a 3foot x 16 inchers x 2 foot LxWxH is that big enough

  • @alandmal2010 It would work fine for a baby, but will be a little small for an adult.

  • Do you have to use UVB? I use a zoo-med 100 watt basking sun and another 100 watt nocturnal lamp for night time.

  • @kurtanglekobebryant No I do not use a uvb. They arent necessary. It cant hurt, but you dont need one. I dont use a nighttime bulb either because my room is heating in the upper 70s.

  • nice! im getting one for my herp collection around Xmas so yeah thats man awesome vid im puting mine in a 3foot tub bit low on enclusiors latey XD

  • where did you get yours and for how much because i intend on getting one

  • @zeeb44 at a reptile show for $150 I think. Red ackies are usually a good bit more than that, you can get yellows for that price though.

  • great vid dude , how many ackies do u have

  • @YAQ91 Just one. I plan on getting another red as soon as I can sex mine and probly a pair of yellow eventually as well.

  • Thanks for making the video! i am going to get near x-mas.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

  • how do they tame?

  • @zcaron11 really good
