I own this lappy and do noy miss the DVD at all. I have a usb DVD to load programs and burn stuff. Put a SSD in it a month ago and now it is bullet proof. A 720p screen would have been great...
i want this sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
the problem of notebook is no dvd-rom , i dont like notebooks , i like more laptops or more PC's, what a i like at this Windows vista and is have a lot of stuff !
I have no idea, but my HP TX2 also has Altec Lansing speakers, quite large too for a laptop. And the sound is awesome, bass and the sound is clean and strong even on very high volume. So whoever made them, I think they do a good job.
Damn i think a lot of things suck about this note/netbook. For example the screen, besides the regular frame it seems that there is and even smaller frame around the screen, looks a bit off.
HDMI output is nothing new.
and if you actually have the big graphiccard which is nice, i would rather buy an actual laptop for 599:P
ok well I bought it off tigerdirect ca and it'll arrive around October 14th. Super excited because now I'll be able to play Quake Live flawlessly and Half Life 2 and other fun games like that.
this beast is available on newegg for 599 or you can get it at tigerdirect now for 669, the difference being is you get the updated version of it from tigerdirect.
The difference is you get a 250gb hard drive as opposed to the 160gb, and you get the improved geforce g 105m graphics chip with 512vram as opposed to the 9300gs with 256vram, also the new model has a led backlit screen.
This netbook is totally overpriced for what you get. The only thing worth it here is the 9300M GS, so I'd only recommend this if you make use of 3D apps. Otherwise, this netbook is not good at all. It will not run Vista smoothly because the CPU is too weak. You'll be downgrading to XP within a weak. HD youtube videos have skipped frames all over. Battery life is about 6 hours max and price is just ridiculous.
yes it does learn how to, you need mplayer classic and combine community codec pack, this thing runs 1080i mkv movies on hdmi out to my tv like a blu ray player
Awsome netbook. Bought one a month ago and I am loving it. The new N10Jh will apparently have 512MB video - but considering the atom bottlenecks the performance here, I don#t expect there to be much improvement. Runs forst shooters at medium / high graphics very well.
hehe i'm watching this video with my n10j, i got it about a month ago on windows xp, oced to 2.06ghz. i payed 597$ at staples and they just recently lowered the price to 547$ -.-. 250GB HDD, 2GB ram...
Oh man... i wish that i had known about that because i bought a Toshiba A300 Sat Pro and it's already slowing down (stupid vista!). Having the Asus laptop would be awesome
What's a good laptop that has 4 gigs of ram, a 320 gig harddrive, good graphics, good speakers. thats under at least$900.000 or lower? I have $1,500.00
someone PLEASE HELP me out! i want to sell my mobo.. with the cpu/heatsink/fan/mobo case plate. it is an: ASUS A8M2N-LA + AMD Athlon 64 X2 (W) 4000+ 2.1 GHz 2000 MT/s (mega transfers/second) Socket AM2 Chipset GeForce 6150 LE im having a tough time figuring out how much to put it up for on ebay. i was thinking $199 maybe? too much? too little? the condition is excellent by the way, it was only used for a few weeks. anyway thanks in advance for any replies!
this notebook is THE notebook for me. Portability plus a strong and better connection (wi-fi N) this is truly THE notebook for the ppl that are always on the go. the price is heavy though.
There are netbooks more lightweight and smaller and also better equiped with bulit in HSPA modem. This netbook is for gamers who like to pay overpriced stuff just to satisfy their addction anytime everywhere lol .
Well I don't see it as a gamers nbook. The cpu is not that powerful. Atom is not design for games. Don't know why ASUS put an 9M series in this nbook. Maybe your right about gamers addiction. As for Wi-Fi, b/g is okay but most of my co-worker got b/g and I got an n. they are not satisfied with their Wi-Fi.
Well, i feel it's very reasonable, this isn't really a standard Netbook, i see it more as a Notebook in a 10.2" form factor... the only "Netbook" style component is the Atom processor, which is a very good single core processor. Everything eles on this Netbook / Notebook is more like a Notebook. When you put Notebook components into a smaller form factor it always raises the price.
I live in the UK and it's £489.99 which is a little more than a 15.6" notebook with simular specs.
Anyway, I woulden´t trust the N-10 to run the pre installed Vista. It is much to underpowered for it. I suspect most of the owners would downgrade to XP sooner then later. I dont see the point to add the cost of Vista to the package.
In fact the Asus n10 is almost 1000$ Retail where i live, The 8,9 screen Acer with 160GB HD, 2 expansion slots AND HSDPA/HSPA slot for simcard (internet) is just about 400$ Retail, just about now.
I just checked the price for then N10 again, and here in the promised land of Sweden the n10 sells for 945 american dollars after currencyconcersion. Thats the cheapest way to get one here. In U.K. the price is around 530 £ = 833$ :-(
if u know anyone from canada let them get u one and when they visit they give it to u and u pay them lol:P idk, well vista looked pretty stable and fast on the demo they have at the store i thought it would load to just press the start on the bottom left it was pretty fast:P im getting mine next week instead after i get my paycheck:P
Maybe we have a business opportunity here. The big advantage of the N10 is the global warranty . No need to send items with faults back to Canada, just hand it over to a local asus contractor.
If you ship 25 Asus n10 to me , I could sell them here and make a 200 $ profit per piece = 5000$ in all . ;-)
I would have bought this one. But sadly it has no HSDPA/HSPA slot for simcard wireless internet, and i hate the thought that i must connect an additionell dongle the the USB to go online.
So, its the Acer aspire one for me, at a much lesser price.
im getting one from staples today(i dont think they sell in best buy) they put the price down to 599.99$ and yea it should play cs1.6 like nothing if its already able to play css and max graphics (higher fps if u overclock which i will do) :)
for ppl sayin its expensive well there is the other option of 669 bucks for this but its the asus n10-j-a1 this one is the a2 which comes with buisness and what not the other one has the same thing though just 160gb hdd and no xp downgrade and vista premium which is good for me personally but i think spending more money is the answer lool
oo to his question at the end of what more could u want THERES A HUGE BIGGY actually personally for me and that my friends is 3g slot but i might get an iphone for that so yeah
The N10 is definitely not the best gaming netbook however it should not be underestimated. It can play more games than you will think at 640x480 or 800x600 (remember the LCD is a 1024x800)
The Atom is not the most powerful processor by any means but it is a very capable processor. It can surprise with its performance. The 9300GS is also a good graphics chip that earns its keep very well
I want one and should be buying one in a few months (used a friends for a week and love it)
I strongly recomend this netbook. Most of the netbook got XP OS but this is Vista. I know, I know it's Vista but you can upgrade it to Window 7 when it comes out.
Hey i got the N10J in march, with 2GB ram and 250GB harddisk its going awesome, the discrete graphics work really well for basic gaming (Halo, NFS underground, pj64). No problems at all so far, although even though the battery life is awesome (does go for 6+ hours) im not into the 6 cell battery that sticks out the back, so im going for a 3 cell that sits flush with the case. Besides that its the perfect netbook. Definitely a good buy, and thanks heaps for the review it helped alot.

why is everybody so hyped about altec lansing speakers in notebooks?!!! for crying out loud... netbook speakers!!!
thats like cellphone-speaker-phone size drivers, packaged in plastic for slightly better acoustic profile.

I'm leaning towards the Acer 1810T (1410 ULV in USA). Bigger screen (11.6), higher resolution (!), better CPU, better battery (8 hours; actually true) & not to mention, cheaper as well...
0621211 2 years ago
This netbook is totally overpriced for what you get. The only thing worth it here is the 9300M GS, so I'd only recommend this if you make use of 3D apps. Otherwise, this netbook is not good at all. It will not run Vista smoothly because the CPU is too weak. You'll be downgrading to XP within a weak. HD youtube videos have skipped frames all over. Battery life is about 6 hours max and price is just ridiculous.

for ppl sayin its expensive well there is the other option of 669 bucks for this but its the asus n10-j-a1 this one is the a2 which comes with buisness and what not the other one has the same thing though just 160gb hdd and no xp downgrade and vista premium which is good for me personally but i think spending more money is the answer lool

oo to his question at the end of what more could u want THERES A HUGE BIGGY actually personally for me and that my friends is 3g slot but i might get an iphone for that so yeah

The cpu is not powerful to play awesome games today. Is like the game is just for to kill time. It's a netbook.
OTAKUJHE 2 years ago
will it play counter strike source, ut3, and call of duty 4?
4DUMBASSES 2 years ago
CS:S will probably play, UT3 / CoD4 probably not.
philo23 2 years ago
@4DUMBASSES.
Don't hope on anything, its more of a netbook, and the mother board isn't made for gaming like that.
SethFlippinMatthews 2 years ago
oh, okay thanks
4DUMBASSES 2 years ago
it can play cod4, css, check vids on youtube there are vids of people playing those games with this netbook.

It does at 960x480 everything minimal at 30fps. You can clunk the settings up and get around 15fps..
