@justtex1975 So where's the money going to come from? until I poop dollar bills and jobs......it ain't happening! Ever hear the term " sometimes you gotta spend money to make money?" or in this case........clean up after the last administrations?
@justtex1975 I agree, Goverment can't create wealth, but it can create opportunities so that WE can. Or as in the last administration did, take those opportunities away using credit. Now it's time to pay the piper and we are out of work and out of our homes. So whats Friedman's rule now besides cutting taxes for the wealthiest while the middle class pays for the low?
Al Gore was a moderate Democrat, just like Clinton was. He would have furthered the surplus.
The reason why Al Gore flies planes and has an energy-consuming home is because he needs it as a public figure and former Vice President. Let's not forget that this is an ENTITLEMENT for those who have served in the high office.
Actually, had Al Gore just continued to fight the good fight, we would have gotten eight more years of true fiscal conservatism, yet while still maintaining a small social government.
All the spending you see in Washington, remedies or otherwise, are all a tool to fix the crisis Bush got us into. Consider it; do you honestly believe we would be doing all this spending had someone else been President the past eight years?
Do you believe all that? I hate to break it to you but Al Gore is a Hypocrite. He whines about the Globe and how do you think he gets around? He flies.
Bush didn't single handedly get us into this mess. He had help from the Democrat Congress as they voted for his funding for Iraq. Pelosi and Reid included. So you can thank your Democrat friends in Congress as well. :)
You're absolutely right about that. However there was never a budget surplus. When Clinton left office, the debt was at 5 t and the deficit was at 17 B.
If Gore won, the gas prices would go up for "environmental purposes."
I by no means like Bush. I actually prefered Clinton being fiscally Responsible and Bush keeping America safe after 911 that is. I don't dispute that Bush sucked. I dispute that the Democrats were no better.
While we were not totally free of debt, we were well on our way. $360 billion was reduced from the deficit, following a whole $223 billion in only one year. There are recorded record surpluses.
Eh, what? Gas prices skyrocketed under Bush, especially in the years 2006-2008. It was horrendous, and it certainly didn't have any significant effect on the environment. Al Gore's for going green, yes, but I personally don't believe charging $6-7 per gallon would have been an economic idea of his.
Then it went down to about 1.45 before Bush stepped down. Now it's 2.50.
Actually there was never a surplus in the deficit. The lowest the deficit got was 17B and that was his last year in office. You're welcome to check the US Treasury to confirm that. Don't take my word for it.
"The swing in the Federal budget from deficit to surplus has resulted in nearly a doubling of the net national saving rate, making more funds available for private investment. (And incidentally, the improvement in the Federal budget deficit - now a surplus - accounts for all of the improvement in national saving.)"
17B is actually pretty good for the US debt. No matter who's in charge, we've been spending millions since the day we declared independence.
Thanks for checking. Most flat out refuse. I'll give you that. 17 B is good. I agree that Clinton was a moderate as well. IT was a mass improvement. At the rate we are now, I don't think we will see a surplus in my life time anyway. A lot of people thought Bush was a Fiscal Conservative but he wasn't. He had probably the biggest Government in History.
Did Bush wave a magic wand and make gas prices go up? Look to Goldman Sachs for the real answer.
Gore wrote in his book that he'd like to make gas taxes so high it would make the internal-combustion engine extinct. I don't know why little guys think Gore is out to help the little guy when he's clearly not.
Hey, John, can I exercise my personal freedom and gamble online yet? No? Why is that? How about keeping government out of my business not only fiscally, but socially.
@VoiceHunter It was great until the democraps took congress! Then it all went down hill and never back up until the republican party is back in control!
Technically the Democrats took Congress in January of 2007 and gas prices started to go up in early/mid 2006, but you get the idea.
Let's not forget that Bush was still the (appointed) President in 2006. He had much say on the matter. Since Bush and his cronies are in politics for their money so they can sell more oil, it is only expected that Bush would want gas prices to go up.

I will admit, even as a lifelong Democrat, I did oppose the extension of the debt limit. The problem is, we need to look at who is forcing us to spend. Can we honestly say that if the Republican-controlled congress hadn't had spent that much, that we would still have the need to spend all this money on stimulus bills? And Hoyer had a strong point on this GOP obsession with tax cuts: It doesn't reduce the debt. This is logically true.
Think about it. Tax cuts are always good. And the Dems are wrong to oppose and ridicule tax cuts. First of all, tax cuts show that you respect Americans as individuals and families, and are working to help their budgets rather than being obsessed with the government budget. Secondly, even if spending doesn't get cut (like it should), borrowing is still better than taxing. Individuals can opt-out of borrowing, sparing themselves the higher interest rates, but they are FORCED to pay taxes.
Tax cuts are good for the middle-class. The Republicans just want to dump all the responsibility onto the working middle-class. Trickle-down is the biggest joke I have ever seen in my life, considering how the entire GOP platform is based on theory, and not fact.
Reaganomics shows absolutely no respect for Americans; it just makes the rich richer.
Republicans cut taxes for EVERY taxpayer. EVERYONE benefits. That is a fact.

Your "trickle-down" smear just shows that you have been brainwashed by Marxist propaganda.
Everyone? Really? That's not what I've been hearing. Reaganomics was just invented to keep the key people rich, the key people being, 2-5% of Americans. It certainly didn't do anything for the economy... the debt just kept piling up. Meanwhile, we're up in the Middle East, loading ourselves up with more oil, and soon turning the government into a giant pyramid scheme.
Please, spare me the old "Socialist/Marxist/Fascist" bullshit. It's just really, really obnoxious, now.
Reaganomics allows the honest, talented, and productive to prosper. It is the Marxist policies of high taxation that suppress the middle class and leave the aristocratic rich to lord over the honest middle class.
Its not rocket science. I ask people that support high taxes if they get checks or benefits from the gov. and most of them say that they dont, so how could government taking money from their boss possibly be of any benefit? They cant answer the question. Are these peoples brains made of manure?
People who oppose tax cuts have been brainwashed by government schooling and the liberal media. All the more reason we need to abolish public schools, abolish the federal Department of Education, and make education 100% private. We need a separation of School and State.
Yea, with intrest. Our wealth during the Republican regime was an illusion. Like buying a porche with a high rate credit card and even though everyone around you thinks you got it going on, it's not yours although the credit card company (special interests of the administration) made their money. If you cut taxes, where will the money come from that Reagonomics borrowed? You wan't to give our country to China because that's where we headed. Hope you speak the language.
The reason the wealth was illusionary is entirely due to the Federal Reserve, a DEMOCRAT creation.
Tax cuts are always right. Our government spends too much; it does NOT tax too little.
Tax cuts are always morally right. If there is a budget deficit, it ENTIRELY the fault of government spending too much. There is nothing else to blame but government spending. Cut government spending in half or more! Problem solved.

Govt doesn't, & can't, create wealth. Only enterprise creates & expands wealth.
Govt can only control, seize, shrink & consume wealth.
Those are indisputable economic facts.
Bush followed Friedman's k percent economic rule, leading to expansion, except @ the end, once Dems took control of congress.
Obama follows Marx's labor theory of value, which fails @ every attempt.
