The difference between the democrat voters and the leaders is that the agenda based democrats hide their history of defending evils such as abortion and , back in the day, slavery and then turn around and convince the voters that moral responsibility is "relative". They hide their history and agenda. You're absolutely right about that. However there was never a budget surplus. When Clinton left office, the debt was at 5 t and the deficit was at 17 B.

If Gore won, the gas prices would go up for "environmental purposes."

I by no means like Bush. I actually prefered Clinton being fiscally Responsible and Bush keeping America safe after 911 that is. I don't dispute that Bush sucked. I dispute that the Democrats were no better.

While we were not totally free of debt, we were well on our way. $360 billion was reduced from the deficit, following a whole $223 billion in only one year. There are recorded record surpluses.

Eh, what? Gas prices skyrocketed under Bush, especially in the years 2006-2008. It was horrendous, and it certainly didn't have any significant effect on the environment. Al Gore's for going green, yes, but I personally don't believe charging $6-7 per gallon would have been an economic idea of his.

Actually there was never a surplus in the deficit. The lowest the deficit got was 17B and that was his last year in office. You're welcome to check the US Treasury to confirm that. Don't take my word for it.

I will admit, even as a lifelong Democrat, I did oppose the extension of the debt limit. The problem is, we need to look at who is forcing us to spend. Can we honestly say that if the Republican-controlled congress hadn't had spent that much, that we would still have the need to spend all this money on stimulus bills? And Hoyer had a strong point on this GOP obsession with tax cuts: It doesn't reduce the debt. This is logically true.

Think about it. Tax cuts are always good. And the Dems are wrong to oppose and ridicule tax cuts. First of all, tax cuts show that you respect Americans as individuals and families, and are working to help their budgets rather than being obsessed with the government budget. Secondly, even if spending doesn't get cut (like it should), borrowing is still better than taxing. Individuals can opt-out of borrowing, sparing themselves the higher interest rates, but they are FORCED to pay taxes.
