Browsing through the oldies (dusties) on UTUBE came across this song that took me way back and I really enjoyed listening to it. Thanks for uploading it. From the Chi-town 58 and Mexican
Seriously, I am black and I do remember when we all really did get along. Youngbloods believe me when I tell you, none of us are at fault for the crazy past. We can't change it so we need to move on. We are the new generation. Peace, Let it all hang out:), Its beautiful!
This music here takes me back to a time that I loved where we all band together and enjoyed a real true music era. Blacks / Mexicans/ Whites and others that enjoyed this... I love seeing mexican art on these oldies song... Because I know it is a jam and I click away and listen. God is good....
The original version of "Tell Him" was recorded by Patti and the Drew-Vels. Written by Carlton Black it was only a local hit. Patti Drew was raised in Nashville, Tennesse and Evanston, Illinois. Her mother worked for a Capital records promoter and he heard her sing in church. Capital issued a new recording of Tell Him as her first single which saw modest success on the charts. I always loved her voice, too bad she retired in 1971..
This is respect music, black, white, Mexicans,I am 56 and enjoy this music to know, its all I hear, its all about the rola, California, lower cruising music with the love of your Life!!! Respect orale!!!
@patriz1955 I'm 56 too! I don't know about you..but I dig my fifties. Thank the Good Lord that so much of the absolute insanity that were my twenties and thirties...and part of my forties is gone for the most part. Now I feel like I kind of owe it to the younger kids to tell them to watch out for the shit that tripped me up back in the day. But these kids nowdays...most of them don't wanna listen. But perhaps I can at least drop a grain of truth into their brains that may pop up later for them.
@WickedTornado WOW!!!.i am so proud of your post. Our kids are so lost, they are searchin' for something just like we were! I remember the days too! 2 steppin' to all the oldies. why do white peopel come here and do bad comments, go to ur hot rog page and suck on skoal and die of crack ur dumb stupid crackers, how bout we play connect the dot on on ur ass with all them spots.
Damn, people arguing about music origin. If it´s black and no chicano. Every culture has soul, latinos have soul also, older soul compas BOLEROS, much older than black soul, there´s no need to argue just enjoy.
if you lived in southern california in the 70s you listen to this kind of music it didnt matter what race you were it had to do with what you like to listen to. thats why there is all kinds of music just because a certain race sang it doesn't mean that was the only race that listen to it . to music loverseverywhere
this is what i found in the comments ese "James Brown' music was enjoyed by people from around the globe . His music is over 50 years old of course its gonna be a chicano oldie , a white oldie and maybe even a chinese oldie . To disregard that fact , in what you appear to be doing when you laugh , is actually doing a disservice to James Brown' ability to touch people of all races." i never said we started that. we started BROWNPRIDE nd wasnt it blackpower? We are Brown and LighterShades of it
@jruiz2470 All those groups can identify with the music, but fact remains it is not a Chicano oldie, white oldie or Chinese oldie. Those cultures did not create it. If any ethnicity to be attached to the music it should be the name of the culture that created it. Music is cultural and culture is an expression of its people. This music expressed the cultural experience of Black Americans, not Chicanos, whites or Chinese. It just happens other cultures could identify with it.
@jruiz2470 That is the point YOU'RE obviously attempting to make. This is a video about music, nothing else. You can't win or justify your argument so you try another silly tactic. Won't work. This is still BLACK music, nothing Chicano about it.
@luvureally lmao when did i ever said this was Chicano music? hmm tell me, when did i say that? is that why you blacks think you started lowriding or puttin big rims on a car?
@jruiz2470 I didn't say YOU said it. There are several posts left on videos with classic soul/r&b referring to it as Chicano music. Some people even say Chicano power. Nothing wrong with Chicano power, but how do you get Chicano power out of Black music? Rims and lowriders? They had nothing to do with the creation of soul/r&b. For your info I know that lowrider came out of Chicano culture. Chicanos originally called them ranflas or ranflos, it was Blacks who first used the term lowrider.
@luvureally hahaha, Im black and I grew up in California where all this shit started and just let me say this, THE MEXICANS had the lowridin' shit since the beginning, the homies and I would always get our cars fixed by the Homeboys, Esses, whatever you want to call them. I grew up in the 50's 60's ..............yeah we had the Music and Soul, they had the Cars and Clothes and Mentality but it was a beautiful thing we came together, the music brought us together! It doesn't matter! Enjoy life!
@luvureally What's wrong, can't take the truth from another BLACK MAN! That's the kind of shit you young ass youngsters don't understand. I been there done that, I grew up in the CIVIL RIGHTS era! I grew up in a time where all of us "minorities" had to come together! Your the kind of idiot that has separated the browns from one another, not that there are not Mexicans out there who don't do that too. We got to come together, were in this together. You might like this song but it belongs to my era
@ETJLMET I still don't believe you're a BLACK MAN Hilary. If you are a Black man then you're the kind that belongs on a box of rice or sitting on the back porch with massa's "chillun" on your lap telling them brer rabbit stories like a good old Uncle Remus should! This music is part of Black America's legacy, it belongs to past and future generations. Its is BLACK AMERICAN heritage! Also part of greater American heritage. Why are you ASS-uming I am a youngster. This is music I grew up with.
@luvureally lo lo's are classy. 64's, fleetwoods and coupe devilles on daytons or vogues actually looks classy to this day and this new dumb dumb southern mentality of lifting classic caprices or 442's on 24+ inchers is just idiotic and tasteless, well least we agree on something,
Can anybody tell me the name of this song, "this fat boys gonna love her" that`s the only part of the song i remember. I`s very popular amonst the old school latin lowriders.
Blacks play a game that was invented by a white man. But Blacks have dramatically changed the way the game is played. Nothing has changed or been added to this music. These are the original recordings. Chicanos have made them a part of their culture without changing the music
@luvureally Blacks play a game that was invented by a white man. But Blacks have dramatically changed the way the game is played. Nothing has changed or been added to this music. These are the original recordings. Chicanos have made them a part of their culture without changing the music!
Us Chicanos have esteemed these classic souls songs so highly that we have become their preservers. We know more about these classics than any black person under 50 years of age. And it's your own heritage.
@62andru" And it's your own heritage" And that is why it will never be Chicano music, no matter how much you have "esteemed" it. I am Black, under 50 and know plenty about "these classics". I know about the artist, the culture that produced the music, how and why the music was created.
@luvureally LMAO! dude i go to a school full of blacks, but im not, imma Chicano, i was bumpin Try Me on my ipod in a class and you know what the black kids said? "turn that shitty ass music off"... thats what they said homie
@jruiz2470 AANND?! So that erases history 'cause a few kids don't know about it? That means this music was not created out of Black American experience? It now means this music created from Chicano culture? Not! It will always be Black American music. Chicanos embraced it like millions of other non-Blacks. In England they have the Northern soul movement - lifestyle based on classic soul/r&b. They don't call it English music.
@luvureally okay Chicanos bump the oldies, which is black but music is universal, not set just for 1 race but the blacks do things that the Chicanos did first, every1 copies every1 idk why ppl like cant be proud that oldies are still alive cuz of us, Chicano Oldies = Oldies that Chicano's listen too...
@jruiz2470 Fine I understand that classic soul/r&b has become a part of Chicano culture and they play a big role in keeping it alive, that is to be commended. But the music came out of Black culture, it was created from the experiences of Black people in USA. Nothing can change that. It is obvious Chicanos feel a great connection to this aspect of the Black USA cultural experience. Being universal does not erase the history and origins of the music.
@jruiz2470 Tell the average person I'm going to play some Chicano oldies and you start playing Patti Drew, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson, etc., they will think you are crazy. Chicano oldies will be taken at face value, they will ask where is the Chicano music. Soul/r&b music represented average working class Black folk. It told of there every day lives, loves and struggles. Calling it Chicano attempts to give that history to someone else.
@luvureally Why do you keep saying things that everybody already knows?(goes for the other post too) i hate people that do that... Anyways, i never have called these songs Chicano Oldies, i just say oldie, the only songs i know that i call Chicano Oldies are Ritchie Valens songs, so im saying the Blacks made great music in the past but now, they're crap(the music and how some act)
@jruiz2470 As long as BLACK music is called Chicano I will continue to say it. James Brown's "Try Me listed as Chicano oldie on YouTube as is the Danleers "One Summer Night". Many comments posted calling Black music Chicano. There are good REAL soul/r&b singers - Ledisi, Anthony Hamilton, Governor, Leela James, Maxwell, Ryan Shaw, Bilal, Rashan Patterson, Jennifer Hudson (not best material but a genuine soul singer), Only thing you know about modern Black music is what you hear on radio or BET.
@luvureally Chicano oldies hmm to me that means oldies that Chicanos listen too and i wouldnt know, i dont listen to the radio and whats BET? a radio talk show or sumthing and i never said that ther arent any, why do u assume i think that huh?
@jruiz2470 To you it means that but to others not. You from Cali or southwest? If so very small percentage of Black population lives there. Most Blacks live in east, east coast is the center and cradle of Black culture in USA, things are different, more aware of classic soul/r&b, especially in the dirty south. "Blacks made great music in the past but now, they're crap(the music and how some act)" They statement seems to indicate your opinion of modern day Black music.
@luvureally Yes to others it means the same damn thing,,,, was born in Cali but live in the midwest for now and of course it does, what else is it suppose to indicate?
@jruiz2470 If I say I am having Chinese food you are definitely going to think I am having food that was created by Chinese people. Labeling a music Chicano also gives the impression the music is created by Chicanos, no matter what the reasoning. What is wrong with just calling it classic soul/r&b or just plain oldies? Why the need to attach Chicano to it, when Chicano culture had nothing to do with producing it?
@luvureally Why do you keep going to the same BS over and over again, as i look at the suggestions to the left of the screen, i see no "Chicano Oldies" we all know Chicanos had nothing to do with making it, but keep it alive, everyone knows this,
@jruiz2470 If they did James Brown and The Danleers would not be posted on youtube under Chicano oldies. And yeah as long as people talk shit about Black folk yet try to cop our culture and attempt to justify it by falsely claiming Black people don't care about this music anymore as if they personally know each and every Black person in USA.
@luvureally well, seems like you can only name 2 artist named under that, and LOL! we only copy your music, but blacks copied Mexicans more, and who ever said thats the reason we do that? and i've ment black ppl that claim they are Brown, ever since Mexicans said BrownPride, you guys wanna be brown now...
@jruiz2470 That is two too many. Anyway it is in the comments where you find most people calling classic soul/r&b Chicano music. Copy you how? LOL! Most of us refer to ourselves as Black or African American. Black pride came first in 60s then you came up with brown pride. Like we created soul and then you came up with Chicano soul, we create rap and you copy with Chicano rap. Besides we are genuinely brown, most of you are tan, beige maybe khaki.
@62andru serio , u never see no blacks bumping these classic oldies, Chicanos never let these oldies die, oldies but goodies, id rather bump Lowrider oldies than any other type of music
FUCK ALL THE DUMBSHIT. PEOPLE LISTEN TO THIS TYPE OF MUSIC BECAUSE THEY LIKE IT, NOT FOR THE COLOR OF THE ARTIST!!! THAT TOPIC IS WEAK, DOES'NT MATTER WHO MADE IT, IT SOUNDS SICK THATS WHY WE STILL BUMP THAT SHIT. FUCK ATLEAST I KNOW I DO. SO FUCK ALL THA HATERZ OLDIES AND OLDSKOOL RULE FOREVER, NO MATTER WHO SANG THEM!!!
I agree, but can ya lay off the cussing, all you are doing is disrespecting the music, the times and the artist, have some class for those who dont want to see that......... Love the song, takes me back to times when language like you are using was not put into print, capish? thx
@sesicks19er serio pedo ese thats right homie tell them how it really is. foos now a days talk some dumb ass shit showing no respect. who gives a fuck who made them its firme.
why cant we all just sit back and enjoy this firme rola!?! c'mon! it doesnt matter who made it! it was made and its the best kind of music on this earth, the most real music on this earth, and has the most positive message on this earth! just everyone shut up and let patti drew do the talking!
There are blog sites you can go to if you want to have debates about who started what, you can be as ignorant as you want, & people actually GIVE A SHIT!
No one wants to read about your fucking opinion about shit unless it has to do with the song that we all looked for on youtube!

Damn, people arguing about music origin. If it´s black and no chicano. Every culture has soul, latinos have soul also, older soul compas BOLEROS, much older than black soul, there´s no need to argue just enjoy.

if you lived in southern california in the 70s you listen to this kind of music it didnt matter what race you were it had to do with what you like to listen to. thats why there is all kinds of music just because a certain race sang it doesn't mean that was the only race that listen to it . to music loverseverywhere
oldies2072 1 year ago
this is what i found in the comments ese "James Brown' music was enjoyed by people from around the globe . We are Brown and LighterShades of it
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 All those groups can identify with the music, but fact remains it is not a Chicano oldie, white oldie or Chinese oldie. Those cultures did not create it. If any ethnicity to be attached to the music it should be the name of the culture that created it. Music is cultural and culture is an expression of its people. This music expressed the cultural experience of Black Americans, not Chicanos, whites or Chinese. It just happens other cultures could identify with it.

@luvureally k ur point is that only thing u guys made was music, and everything else u copied, hmm that sounds right
jruiz2470 11 months ago
@jruiz2470 That is the point YOU'RE obviously attempting to make. This is a video about music, nothing else. You can't win or justify your argument so you try another silly tactic. Won't work. This is still BLACK music, nothing Chicano about it.
luvureally 11 months ago
@luvureally lmao when did i ever said this was Chicano music? hmm tell me, when did i say that? is that why you blacks think you started lowriding or puttin big rims on a car?
jruiz2470 11 months ago
@jruiz2470 I didn't say YOU said it. There are several posts left on videos with classic soul/r&b referring to it as Chicano music. Some people even say Chicano power. Nothing wrong with Chicano power, but how do you get Chicano power out of Black music? Rims and lowriders? They had nothing to do with the creation of soul/r&b. For your info I know that lowrider came out of Chicano culture. Chicanos originally called them ranflas or ranflos, it was Blacks who first used the term lowrider.
luvureally 11 months ago
@luvureally you were implying that and
jruiz2470 11 months ago
@luvureally hahaha, Im black and I grew up in California where all this shit started and just let me say this, THE MEXICANS had the lowridin' shit since the beginning, the homies and I would always get our cars fixed by the Homeboys, Esses, whatever you want to call them. I grew up in the 50's 60's ..............yeah we had the Music and Soul, they had the Cars and Clothes and Mentality but it was a beautiful thing we came together, the music brought us together! It doesn't matter! Enjoy life!
ETJLMET 11 months ago 121
@ETJLMET Who said they didn't have the lowridin? I know that. And if you're a middle aged Black man so is Hillary Clinton.
luvureally 11 months ago
@luvureally What's wrong, can't take the truth from another BLACK MAN! That's the kind of shit you young ass youngsters don't understand. I been there done that, I grew up in the CIVIL RIGHTS era! I grew up in a time where all of us "minorities" had to come together! Your the kind of idiot that has separated the browns from one another, not that there are not Mexicans out there who don't do that too. We got to come together, were in this together. You might like this song but it belongs to my era
ETJLMET 11 months ago 2
@ETJLMET I still don't believe you're a BLACK MAN Hilary. If you are a Black man then you're the kind that belongs on a box of rice or sitting on the back porch with massa's "chillun" on your lap telling them brer rabbit stories like a good old Uncle Remus should! This music is part of Black America's legacy, it belongs to past and future generations. Its is BLACK AMERICAN heritage! Also part of greater American heritage. Why are you ASS-uming I am a youngster. This is music I grew up with.

Blacks play a game that was invented by a white man. But Blacks have dramatically changed the way the game is played. Nothing has changed or been added to this music. These are the original recordings. Chicanos have made them a part of their culture without changing the music

Us Chicanos have esteemed these classic souls songs so highly that we have become their preservers. We know more about these classics than any black person under 50 years of age. And it's your own heritage.
62andru 1 year ago
@62andru" And it's your own heritage" And that is why it will never be Chicano music, no matter how much you have "esteemed" it. I am Black, under 50 and know plenty about "these classics". I know about the artist, the culture that produced the music, how and why the music was created.
luvureally 1 year ago
@luvureally LMAO! dude i go to a school full of blacks, but im not, imma Chicano, i was bumpin Try Me on my ipod in a class and you know what the black kids said? "turn that shitty ass music off"... thats what they said homie
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 AANND?! So that erases history 'cause a few kids don't know about it? That means this music was not created out of Black American experience? It now means this music created from Chicano culture? Not! It will always be Black American music. Chicanos embraced it like millions of other non-Blacks. In England they have the Northern soul movement - lifestyle based on classic soul/r&b. They don't call it English music.
luvureally 1 year ago
@luvureally okay Chicanos bump the oldies, which is black but music is universal, not set just for 1 race but the blacks do things that the Chicanos did first, every1 copies every1 idk why ppl like cant be proud that oldies are still alive cuz of us, Chicano Oldies = Oldies that Chicano's listen too...
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 Fine I understand that classic soul/r&b has become a part of Chicano culture and they play a big role in keeping it alive, that is to be commended. But the music came out of Black culture, it was created from the experiences of Black people in USA. Nothing can change that. It is obvious Chicanos feel a great connection to this aspect of the Black USA cultural experience. Being universal does not erase the history and origins of the music.
luvureally 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 Tell the average person I'm going to play some Chicano oldies and you start playing Patti Drew, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson, etc., they will think you are crazy. Chicano oldies will be taken at face value, they will ask where is the Chicano music. Soul/r&b music represented average working class Black folk. It told of there every day lives, loves and struggles. Calling it Chicano attempts to give that history to someone else.
luvureally 1 year ago
@luvureally Why do you keep saying things that everybody already knows?(goes for the other post too) i hate people that do that... Anyways, i never have called these songs Chicano Oldies, i just say oldie, the only songs i know that i call Chicano Oldies are Ritchie Valens songs, so im saying the Blacks made great music in the past but now, they're crap(the music and how some act)
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 As long as BLACK music is called Chicano I will continue to say it. James Brown's "Try Me listed as Chicano oldie on YouTube as is the Danleers "One Summer Night". Many comments posted calling Black music Chicano. There are good REAL soul/r&b singers - Ledisi, Anthony Hamilton, Governor, Leela James, Maxwell, Ryan Shaw, Bilal, Rashan Patterson, Jennifer Hudson (not best material but a genuine soul singer), Only thing you know about modern Black music is what you hear on radio or BET.
luvureally 1 year ago
@luvureally Chicano oldies hmm to me that means oldies that Chicanos listen too and i wouldnt know, i dont listen to the radio and whats BET? a radio talk show or sumthing and i never said that ther arent any, why do u assume i think that huh?
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 To you it means that but to others not. You from Cali or southwest? If so very small percentage of Black population lives there. Most Blacks live in east, east coast is the center and cradle of Black culture in USA, things are different, more aware of classic soul/r&b, especially in the dirty south. "Blacks made great music in the past but now, they're crap(the music and how some act)" They statement seems to indicate your opinion of modern day Black music.
luvureally 1 year ago
@luvureally Yes to others it means the same damn thing,,,, was born in Cali but live in the midwest for now and of course it does, what else is it suppose to indicate?
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 If I say I am having Chinese food you are definitely going to think I am having food that was created by Chinese people. Labeling a music Chicano also gives the impression the music is created by Chicanos, no matter what the reasoning. What is wrong with just calling it classic soul/r&b or just plain oldies? Why the need to attach Chicano to it, when Chicano culture had nothing to do with producing it?
luvureally 1 year ago
@luvureally Why do you keep going to the same BS over and over again, as i look at the suggestions to the left of the screen, i see no "Chicano Oldies" we all know Chicanos had nothing to do with making it, but keep it alive, everyone knows this,
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 If they did James Brown and The Danleers would not be posted on youtube under Chicano oldies. And yeah as long as people talk shit about Black folk yet try to cop our culture and attempt to justify it by falsely claiming Black people don't care about this music anymore as if they personally know each and every Black person in USA.
luvureally 1 year ago
@luvureally well, seems like you can only name 2 artist named under that, and LOL! we only copy your music, but blacks copied Mexicans more, and who ever said thats the reason we do that? and i've ment black ppl that claim they are Brown, ever since Mexicans said BrownPride, you guys wanna be brown now...
jruiz2470 1 year ago
@jruiz2470 That is two too many. Anyway it is in the comments where you find most people calling classic soul/r&b Chicano music. Copy you how? LOL! Most of us refer to ourselves as Black or African American. Black pride came first in 60s then you came up with brown pride. Like we created soul and then you came up with Chicano soul, we create rap and you copy with Chicano rap. Besides we are genuinely brown, most of you are tan, beige maybe khaki.
