This classist discriminatory over-educated officer selection process, MUST be brought to an end. It is ineffective, it is *very bad* for morale, and is plainly right-out-in-the-open asinine.
Why should some stinking Ivy League land lubber be given the keys to a navy aircraft?
I was 16-89 and remember one day in the chow hall. Must have been one of our first days. Gunny Holt was yelling at me from the end of the table because I wasn't standing at attention correctly. I remember his cover rim hitting me on the ear repeatedly. Then, as he asked me to stand at a position of attention my arm made contact with him and it was on. He was never out of character. The most professional man I have ever met to this day.
@bukit15 Sosa indeed. Now I'm flying a wide body across the Atlantic out of Kennedy for a major. Twelve active, 8-reserve. Got my 20 and got out. By the way, our graduating class pic made it on the inside cover of a Newsweek or US News magazine in 1989 or so. I think they picked it because we had the only female in our class in weeks. I think she washed out of primary flight, come to think of it.
THIS IS SO KICK ASS! Gunney Holts voice has got the hairs on the back of my neck standing up! Got to AOCS sick for 12-89, after a week of 'T-Zone' started in 13-89 With SSGT Barber! I remember them filming this while I was there! Holt was awesome... The dude was so locked on it was amazing! He saw every flaw... but was fair. Holt PT'd my ass one day in the Batt1 Rose Garden till I puked up my lunch!!!
Does the Navy and Air Force have an exchange program for their fighter pilots? I am going to college next year and want to be a fighter pilot. I really want to fly the super hornet but the F-22 keeps catching my eye too.
Why did watch the whole video? I'm only 16. How did I get to this video anyway. Everyone here has good grammer/speach and know a lot about these stuff so I'm guessing they're old (no pun intended).
This is the 1990 remake of one I watched (1974) as I was on my way to becoming a Naval Flight Officer Candidate in 1978 into class 01-79. Now I am Captain, USNR (Ret). Not only were the lessons taught there germane to Naval Aviation, they were just as much germane to success in life in general.
Gunnery Sargent Calamari, United States Marine Corps
Class 42-85...you can tell stories about it but unless you've lived it you just don't get it.
"Class 42-85 marching into chow...zero-nine, zero-ten...NO!, NO!, GET BACK!, GET BACK! GET OUT OF MY CHOW HALL! ON YOUR FACE, JUST BEGIN...YOU'RE GONNA DO PUSHUPS 'TILL I GET TIRED..." ahhh, the good ol' days.
Gunny Holt. I will never forget the Saturday afternoon you caught me leaning over your desk in Batt I and staring at that big goofy picture of you and your wife.
I don't even remember how long you PT'd me for that, but I still laugh about it to this day . . . I think that might have been my best day at AOCS, even though you made me pay hard for it . . .
@texagman Not sure if anyone answered your month old question, but this is a Navy recruiting video. At Navy Officer Candidacy School, some of the people who train you are Marines.
OMG..! This brings back memories of misery! I was Holt's 09-88 class and made the mistake of responding, "Yes, Drill Sergeant!" to him after being questioned (I was formerly Army). The USMC Drill Instructor immediately admonished me, as they "don't have long hair nor have fat stomachs creeping over their belt line!" I suffered for weeks for this mistake. - After a successful Navy career I now enjoy my airline job at UPS. It's all "cover and alignment, girls!" - Worst memory: the Hell room.
I was in 12-89 (GySgt Woodring) while they were filming this. Holt was known as the "Antichrist." His voice still sends chills down my spine. But he was a consumate professional and always led from the front.
Pure gold. I had GySgt Hudson in 27-88, who was also considered for the part, but GySgt Holt was born for the role. I need to post the screen test for each of them one of these days.
I was in 16-89 and was in T-Zone when this was being made. Had SSGT Matthews for my DI, but Holt nailed us T-Zoners for "smokin' and jokin'" one day after chow. He was one intense individual!!
We called him "the Holtergeist"...I was actually in his class (23-89) but I got set back to SSgt "Mad Dog" Matthews (24-89)...I was soooo happy. Even now, 20 years later, this freakin' guy still scares the shit out of me. I always thought he'd either end up as the SMotMC, or go postal and wipe out a small village.

Class 17-90, SSGT Jesus Refurio Jimenez, jr, USMC. Also known as "JR's Runnin Rebels."
For some reason, I have fond memories of the experience. It's amazing that the friends you make here last a lifetime.

I liked the old version better (23A-89).

Ah, the famous F-14 BLC failure, not to be confused with the F-4 and F-8 BLC failure or the F-14 DLC failure.
