Squires, Catford. Crystal Palace Hotel, circa 1979/80. me and the gals used to have such a night, get p*ssed on the train before we got there, danced and laughed all night. Dem were the days.
Ta to my 58yr old sister for introducing me to Ska etc, and my first ever crush on her 1969 skinhead boyfriend: I was 9, and there began my love of skins xxxx
Not 100% Mod, was more in tune with the Ska movement, just was incorporated into mods, but in the 80's earned it's own place, rightly so (imo) as a SKA classic! Re-worked by the Specials in a very good attempt, but this is the only version you should own really.
To all you 1962-3 mods out there this is the biz remember this and Burning Creation the Scene and all of what had been stated on here great times and I miss it all the people the music that's coloureds and whites there was none if this shit like now we all got on.
I LOVE this, used to play the 45 in slot record player in my MGB driving to the Speakeasy at midnight from SoHo,. with Stuart, great memories. Still have it and about 30 other Blue Beat singles.
I also was a south of the river face, favorite up west club for an allnighter was The Flamingo or as we called it,The Mingo favorite sunday morning club had to be The Scene in Ham yard. How about you?.
haha we were probably rubbing shoulders in one of those clubs or the other..think the flamingo was my favorite tho..not sure why but the guys were amazing dancers, and the fumes you inhaled on entry knocked you out, wow
If your favorite was The Mingo click on Booker T Jones (The Packers) Hole in The Wall, nice track ,this shows a front view of The Flamingo there is also a comment from a guy who was a doorman called David, i wonder if he was the one who stamped your hand for a passout.
@shufflewick ...God..Purple Hearts, Black Bombers, Romilar, Rum 'n Black, Spliffs...was at the club the night Live at The Flamingo was recorded. "Hot dogs, hamburgers, spend your money please".
@patmonkrn... am just back to cyprus after 10 days in london, where i wandered round the old club district..ham yard is there but of course now just a dingy part of soho, no sign of the scene..thank goodness for memories..bag o' nails to be re-opened, supposedly as it was..but thats impossible.
Don't call me Scarface.......priceless! Absolute gem!
