  • Why is it touching the wall? It seems it should be not up in that corner so tight..

  • @destro513 oh it doesnt matter...its an all block building and I never use it....my little woodstove I had in there heated the whole thing ...this doesn't.

  • @london1817 can you elaborate on why it doesn't heat well please. Every other homework I see on these says they're are a beast and heat huge shops to tee shirt temp. I've got a buck and am about to put a double barrel stove in there and am just wondering. thanks.

  • @destro513 I had a small fisher wood stove in the shop and it was tee shirt temp...it was great....I changed it out for the double barrel...I did everything right...everybody said it was going to be awesome!... I was stoked! It didn't heat half as good as the old one and i filled it up for days on several cold days...I haven't even lit it this year!! too much work for nothing...& they burn thru in a year also. hope this helps! sorry to bum you but its the truth.

  • Good work. Do you think the top barrel could be used as an oven if it had a door on it or would that affect the air flow?

  • @envirosponsible you could set something on top....but if you opened it smoke would come out.

  • nice

  • @sugerbear520 Thanks!

  • i only heat 1116 sq. feet log cabin 3 floors tall ..

  • @freedomsailer Damn! Thats great...but I am only heating a 20x30 out building ..

  • i have the double barrel stove kit also, 5 years an still going strong .. no problems at all ... also i used barrels which has lids with rings to hold them on.. makes assy. alot easier ....... enjoy

  • @freedomsailer How big an area do you heat with yours? mine doesn't do so good...I might set it up different or just move it farther from the door to outside.

  • Rick, Stove pipe that goes through roof too close to wood...a fire hazard waiting to happen. Single wall pipe needs 18 inches form combustible material.

  • @rockylee0 I put hardy back around the wood and some 14guage metal....I think it should be safe...thanks for the comment!

  • I love stuff like that rick.i was raisedup around my dads old shop and he allways had some kinda woodstove. When i was a kid i was allmost a firebug LOL.if a fire was lit in the stove you bet i was there.Paul

  • @arkansastrash320 haha...I am a total firebug! during the winter I always make giant fires in the woodstove.

  • @london1817 Hey i can sit and watch our woodstove burn for hours LOL.Its cozy and fun to watch it.Thanks paul

  • @arkansastrash320 I do the same...its great to just relax to!

  • does the second barrel act a s a heat exchanger?

  • @GrizAdams111 It does but not a really good one...This thing works but a good old woodstove would do

    way better i think.

  • Thinkin about doin' a double-barrel myself. Good video & great idea on the self-tapper screws... Have been to Jamaica (8 times) so was also happy to see you hanging their colors proudly... Is that wood smoke I smell, or...?... YA MON!

  • @bman12tgb Thanks! Thats awesome! I have been to Jamaica 3 times...best place on earth!

  • did i hear guinea hens in the background?

  • @sgtrogerp3 Haha! You sure did! you havea keen ear my freind!

  • Sorry to hear you don't use it because it smells. With all the time and money you put into it, all is not lost. Barrels are pretty cheap, and if you can find two cleaner ones, get some paint stripper at an auto parts store, and strip all the outside paint off, then wire brush it, then have a big outside fire, then paint with 2000 F header paint, should do it. I'm putting together a single barrel stove, and think your upper barrel doesn't get hot enough to burn the paint off. Try a heat reclaimer

  • @My1968Impala That is a good idea. I will. It kinda cold here since we got 5" of snow today!

  • Nice set-up! Like the wind turbine too. Let me suggest a 2" threaded on both ends galvanized pipe, with cap, for screwing into the barrel's 2"hole under the door. Allows more draft when starting it up, about $10 at a hardware store. And next time, if there is a next time, have a nice big fire in it outside, to burn the paint/inside residue off. Looks good!

  • @My1968Impala I don't think there will be a next time with the barrel stove. my old wood heater put out way more heat.

I wish I did burn it first. It stinks every time I burn something. so I never use it.

  • Great Video, But Where Do You Get The Barrels?

  • @Bobster986 farm & garden places.

  • please tell me you burned off all the impurities from those barrels. highly toxic

  • @hawkdlb06 They burn off a little more each day.

  • 0:59 meow! I see kitty!

  • @angryadrien Wow you are a very alert person I didn't even notice my

    kitty til you said it!

  • @london1817 watch my one and only video.... you'll see why :) :)

  • aspedas is illegal causes cancer

  • @firewoodguy2009 I think he was joking, hardyboard is just cement AFAIK

  • Is it airtight? I would love to get one of the double barrel kits for my home, but if it is not airtight (won't leak smoke into the house), and cannot easily be made airtight with a stove gasket kit, I will have to buy a regular stove. Please, please tell me that this is airtight? Please?

  • @BooKittyRadley Mine is air tight..I have known people that have had them in their house and it heated a huge 2 story old farm house and worked perfect & I never smelled smoke....you shold certainly consider it for your house...I love mine.

  • i just got done bolting my stove together, but i have about 8 maybe 10 inches of snow on the roof of the garage. have to wait till a good day t o melt most of it off and then i can cut myself a hole. cant wait to use this stove my father had one in his wood shop when i was kid and it was always soo warm and cozy in there. used to spit on the barrel to hear it sizzle.

  • Thats is awesome! I love mine the other day it was 100 degrees in the shop! Best heater ever!

  • You are such a talented person. I have questions about your worm bin. Does it not smell at all inside? Have you had worm bins for many years?

  • Thanks for saying that ! The worm bin smells like dirt. If you over load it will smell bad. I have had several worm bins for years now.....not much can go wrong with them. Thanks for the comment! Rick.

  • I had one of these kits- worked great! Incase you havent already done so- you need to put some fire brick on the bottom so the barrel doesnt get red hot from the wood and ash embers. I used an old refridgerator shelf, as long as the wood is off the bottom. The bottom barrel- I used one that the whole "lid" was clamped on- unclamp and remove for easy cleaning- you will need the trusty shop-vac. Also shouldve stripped the paint off the barrels- nice fumes when gets hot lol. Enjoy-I did mine.

  • I had some regular red bricks...better than nothing i think. I had a fire in the thing (and ran in the house) one day and burned the paint off. Still has paint on the bottoms... oh well! LOL.

  • oh and isn't it a little too close to the wall?Even if it's concrete?

  • I don't know....Its only a wood stove! Well maybe it won't catch ...Hahaha.

  • Didn't know that kit even exsisted..pretty cool. Can't have one here and keep my insurance but still cool.

  • Not even in a building? The kits at tractor supply way cheap.

  • Yeah most insurance companies would slap the cancellation button if they found out up slapped together a stove yourself, and then installed it in a building they insured.

  • What does the top barrel do? I've been thinking that maybe it rholds some more of the exaust heat?

  • They say it makes 40% more heat...I hope so i am going to need it.

  • Well, it's basically a big radiator. You could probably add a few more barrels and get even more heat.

There is a particular kind of stone fireplace that is designed to heat a large mass of stone that is part of the chimney/mantle and after the fire is out it radiates the heat into the building the rest of the day. If you built up some kind of 'heat sink' around the barrels or even close enough for it to be heated you could get a bit more time out of the firewood you use.

  • nice...you should move the fire extingusher futher away tho.....nice kit...

  • I go to use it and burn my hand then it explodes.....Haha my luck.

  • i hear a female guinea in the background! haha

  • You have a keen ear.

I guess I hear them so much i don't notice it.....Wait no thats a lie.

They just make noise all the time!!

  • hahaha. yeah, they tend to do that. but they're awesome birds! eatin bugs and just fun to watch when they chase eachother around. lol

  • Nice video. I had a couple of these for years. One in my shop and one in a greenhouse.

With mine, I was instructed to make the first burn outside and not breath the fumes from the burning paint. Then sand and paint with BBQ paint. I always left some ash in the bottom to keep the heat up off of it.

You might want to get or make a better cap. Being thin metal, they will rust out much quicker if you get a lot of water coming down.

  • Thanks...I will get a cap next trip tp town. I used a layer of red bricks to keep the fire off the bottom ...for a while.

  • Great video.

Just one question, whats to keep the bottom from burning out if it gets too hot?

  • I put a layer of bricks..some people used 2 inches of sand.

  • hope it works 4 u 5*
