I found a video that fixed it. All you have to do is on your finder on the top click on go, then utilities, scroll down to Audio MIDI setup. click it..... there should be a box checked that makes it mute so unclick it and scroll the volume up there....hope this worked.....................just in case you don't want to damage your laptop poking it with a toothpick
i fixed it ! ok here we go , you have to be pacient i was here sitting like for two hours trying to fix it and finally did it , there is a sensor on the right side of the headphone jack (3o`clock) is in the second row of sensor cause the two first are for the headphone so i decide to try it with a paper clip and pressed it and it works !!
use a toothpick stick it into the jack puch to the right side and red light will go off and than you ill have audio back........make sure play some music so you can hear it
ok i need help on my macbook, i cant listen to music unless i have headphones plugged in and when i take the out it says the sound is locked, and a red light comes out of the headphone port, please, anything helps
Your macbook seems to be unuseable. You have had: disk failure, broken slot , booting problems, and now internal speaker failure. Sell it on ebay and buy something good for the money. Like... God knows what.
Mine has been like this for about 3 months now. Nothing i stick in the headphone jack works. I can still listen with headphones though. Which gets annoying.
Yeah me too for a few months as well. I was watching some videos with my headphone in the jack and was finished so I put the Macbook on the table...but it fell and apparently bent the headphone as well. Now I get the red light and nothing I put in seems to work. -_-;
on a side note, on my last macbook, i had headphones plugged in, and hit the jack really hard. it bent one of the sensors, and i opened it up and bent it back. voided my warranty, but who cares, right?
warranties are for people who can't find out how to fix shit with 5 minutes of googling. thus; i am here, thanking you geniusfoundation, from saving me the trouble of taking this one apart like my last one.
(what happened to the last one, you say?--pawned it!)
oh the red light issue. i just got it last week. the solution is quite simple, just use a toothpick and insert to the speaker slot and try to switch the red light off.
there are 4 depression sensors (switches) total in the audio jack port. one of these 4 switches is stuck. there are 2 sets at different depths. the shallow set has 3 sensors (left, top, and right). the deepest set has only 1 (on the right). poke them until they come loose. hope this helps someone.
something like that happens when there is something else going on like a program that the computer can't handle. I had a problem like this, the program got shut down and the speakers worked again. Always check to make sure all your programs are responsive, or you may need to shut down the computer
In my case, restarting the computer did nothing. Apparently there is a sensor to see wether there is no plug or if there is an optical connector, since those will not start electrical currents like normal stuff would. The sensor got stuck, so that when there were no headphones plugged in, the computer thought I was trying to use an optical connection - which would fail, then the computer would give me that "NO" sign whenever I would try to change the volume level.
curtomic is exactly right. it's pretty simple really. one other thing you might want to try doing next it is not smacking your macbook around, love it like a woman.
Had just the same problem, as curtomic7 said, I used a toothpick as well, fiddle with the toothpick in the audio-in, and it should work. It takes some time, but eventually it works.
just bought a black macbook a month ago...unpacked it..had the same problem...audio in would have a red light goin...but the internal speakers wont work but plug in headphones they would..Very Weird..never put a toothpick but observed it..started happening everytime...went to macstore before i cud take my anger out as i was really pissed off abt it ...no questions asked replaced it!!! Love it now!!!
@chillaxed007 obviously you didnt have the same problem as him. im not an idiot, i know to check system pref. as for this paper clip BS, i think ill give it a week to fix itself before i resort to that
hey dude, the reason why its doing that is because it thinks that your using the digital out. take some headphones and plug them in and out a few times. theres a small trigger in it that sometimes gets stuck so thats what you should try. if that doesnt work use a toothpick or something and fish around inside of the port for the switch and you should get your audio back.
R u in safe mode that could be why

I've got the same problem. But a toothpick isn't doing the job. Do apple include a free packet of toothpicks with every macbook?

you stick a tooth pick inside of that port until the speakers on make sure you have anything that requires sound.
