i saw this movie when i was younger. i never knew the title or who was in it, which is strange now that i know johnny depp was the star. i just remember the man's crushed head in the camp fire, that the film was in black and white. needless to say, i found the right combination of words to find it using google and will be watching this film soon.
just finished watching this, and got to say it was so magical and deep in a very artistic way,and for ebert giving this a 2, i say it was way to deep for him, ebert only understands movies like die hard, and would give movies like this and luc besons romeo and juliet a thumbs down because he didn't understand it.what an underrated movie.
One of the best movies I've eveeer seen . Soo underrated but I can understand why because not many people get it . It's filled with so much art and live imagery and poetry and it's all so beautiful . Need to see more work from this director , he's fukcin epic . And being a girl, I agree with the comment below me this isn't a movie , this is true cinema
@mexicala heheh, is good to know than a girl like the real and good damm epic cinema, try with " The Yakuza", " The Thin Red Line", "Aguirre, the Wrath of God", "Black Rain", "Farewell to King", "MacBeth" and "Danton" for now, guaranteed real cinema !! :)
I showed my 4 of my friends this last night. 1 friend was talking loud and walking back and forth through his convo with the train conducter. The rest just became disinterested about 45 minutes into the movie.
@hailtotheking324 heheheheh, dude, sometimes that happens...dont worry, try with new friends, friends with more brain in thier heads and less beer in their veins, hehehehe, good luck !!
I am so astonished that so few people have seen this flick. I personally thought it was the best Depp movie I had ever seen the first time I watch it. And yet when I refer to it, all I get are question marks on people's faces! :P
@apperson9774 What i cannot understand is how/why is he considered the best critic of the United Stated States. The simple fact he only gave two stars to this great film(among many others great Cinema), it's another prooof that he don't understand nothing about Cinema.
@apperson9774 This "so called" critic was never and will never be a reference to me. I'm not a critic and i'm much more stronger than him about the subject.
for a slow paced movie it is fucking epic, usually i would hate movies that are slow paced and long as this one but it is actually a really really good movie.
don't be mad at me. Be mad at your parents for doing a shitty job. I don't worry about you, please don't worry about me. You do your thing, I'll do mine.
Just found this on Netflix. I absolutely LOVED it! So many big names. And Neil Young for the entire soundtrack? Epic win! This ranks up there with Death To Smoochy in my favorite movie list. This movie is a must see if you like the artistic genre.
@thuglife85137 Why Brad Pitt? Johnny has this quality who never dies, and he can play any character he wants and make it perfect. You know he's a very variable actor, you never know which role he will play next and THAT'S exciting. Johnny is the best actor in the whole world!
@MissCajsa123 I know but, when I see BRAD when I was younga with the role of the ACHILLES I liked him soooo much... And at The ASSASSINATION of JESSE JAMES, LEGENDS of the FALL... I liked him more...
@thuglife85137 me 2...like Depp, but Pitt more. No doubt Depp is very charming in Carribeans 4 tho. I didn't watch the first three, but recently i watch coz of Cruz.
Just watched it. This is seriously the weirdest, most tripped out Johnny Depp Movie I've ever seen (and for a Depp Movie that says a lot XD). Loved every minute of it. Beautiful in it's silence, trashy but lovable in it's characters, and it's dialogues range from hilarious to thought provoking. And it's title isn't meant to sound tough like most other western titles, no it's the heart and soul of the movie....that and the great soundtrack (that reminded me of Trigun.)
This was a really good movie, it was like a heavy metal western. Like a shakespeare play, a masterpiece, that a lot of people may not understand. Thank god for wikipedia.
when this came out, i drove around nearly 200 miles to the nearest theater to see it. it was worth it. oh, on the big screen...it was absolutely gorgeous. the soundtrack by neil young is perfect. it's all...perfect. one of my favorite movies always. nobody loves william blake. yes he does.
@TwatTheNat yep it totally worth it! I went to see it in a cinema with my class, and I was the single one who was into it. It's not a movie you would like if you don't like authors movies, it's very deep and there is no dialogue that is useless, the music does all the work. It's still one of my fav!
there are very few films that are worth owning on dvd. this is one of them. how many out there know who the real william blake ( 1757 -1827 ) was ? any fans of the Doors ( end of the night ) will recognise the lines of william blake's poem, " some are born to sweet delight , some are born to endless night "
