Nice job. There's another guy here on YouTube that loves Harrison as well and has worked out how to play the two note parts at the same time. Check him out! Search: My Sweet Lord ( Harris-isms part 5?) Peace.
Nice try, it sounds quite close to the original. Can you tell me what setting you used on the Variax? I´ve got the same guitar but I don´t get that smooth slide sound. George Harrison is, in my opinion, the best slide guitar in rocknroll.
The neck on this Variax is a complete Pig of a thing.
It seems they spent most of the development money on the electrics ( which, to be fair, was the initial selling point).
I've heard the later models put more effort into the playability of the instrument i.e the neck, fret dressing, nut etc etc
The main advantage of this Guitar is being able to switch seamlessly between Strat and Les Paul ( the only two I use) and the fact that it is completely silent near computer monitors!
I have a 300 in the same colour as yours, and I haven't many complaints about the sounds themselves. It's not my favourite guitar to play by any stretch though, I've only used it for recording.
Hello.....you said tune down the string to a d ? are you playing on the e string ? I thought it started on a g# the lead is played in key of E right ? rythmn guitar is going from E to C# minor ? Can you please explain....." how to play ....." ?
Hello great sound.....sounds like Eric Clapton.....can you eplain how to play ? What notes notes are you playing ? Please write to jsteelman@hotmail.com I had computer worked on lost messages in inbox........John
nice ... sounds like the action is too low or you're pushing down too hard on the strings though.... i can hear the frets. Keep it up! George Harrison, Mike Campbell, and Jimmy McCulloch are my favorite slide guitarist!
???? where are your pickups?
artkenji 1 week ago
Wait, theres no pickups on that guitar...?

Damn. I had thought it was two guitars .... until I saw you play it. Then I got all excited that it could be done. But, alas, I guess not.
Baci302 3 months ago
@Baci302
That is the funny thing about it...it is the sound of the two Guitars in Harmony ( at the end) that makes this riff so special.
It is like listening to the Everly Brothers or the Beatles (John & Paul) ...it doesn't work without the harmony!
lukessummerguitar 3 months ago
I apologize if you answered this already, but what slide/open tuning are you in?
Baci302 3 months ago
@Baci302
George played it in both dropped "D" DADGBD ( the original) & Standard tuning EADGBE ( Live ).
The whole riff is played on only two strings "E & B" so you have to move everything up a tone (Two frets) on the high "E" if playing in dropped "D".
Also remember that there is a harmony part for the last part of the riff!
lukessummerguitar 3 months ago
@lukessummerguitar Thanks a lot. The harmony part is played on one guitar (double stops?) on the E and B strings?
Baci302 3 months ago
@Baci302
Two guitars ( overdub on original).
The second Guitar plays the descending line at the end in harmony with the first Guitar.
I overdubbed it here as I hadn't at this point learned two put a video in video like some of my later youtube vids.

@intelsiberia
I'm no expert at slide playing, but from my limited knowledge I would say think "Smooth".
The slide will impart extra treble and bite, so start with the neck pickup and treble at about 4/5...middle 5 and Bass at 9.
I know the original was brittle, but I hear/like it to be...well!...smoother LOL!.
Hope that helps?

Not bad at all. Are you playing in open tuning?
kevkraft 2 years ago
Just tuned the E down to D but kept it in normal tuning for the harmony overdub (which I didn't use the slide for).
It can be played in standard tuning with very little adjustment to the fingering anyway.
