I think I've done it the way you described, Rainiac. I think it's the same idea as the old SNES trick. I'll upload it anyway.

This is a damn cool glitch. I can only guess it happens because Koin's shield doesn't properly load when he's off the screen. I managed to do this during a failed take of one part of my Let's Play (Stormy Seas), but was unfortunately able to show it off on the finished vid. Luckily, you now have shown this off, so major thanks!
