  • its so funny how u hear like 4 notes and he only hit the string once 0.0

  • se escucha genial, pero como se llama ese instrumento?

  • give this nigga an electric guitar

  • This is awesome

  • Okay does anyone else thinks it sounds like an electric guitar unplugged?

  • i wish i had the tools to make one of these

  • A couple flat notes.

  • rockers back in the day

  • Oh great!! I have wondered what that instrument was called for a long time as I watch many Anime videos / dvd's . Are they very expensive? Thanks for posting and the playing is excellent. I love your count off at the beginning!

  • @gwdone Kyle Abbott wrote a book on making shamisens. Besides, many people in Okinawa make curious instrument called kankara sanshins, made with some lying-around wood (some softwood I believe) and tin cans. I think it is a good idea to stat your journey with making one as well-made kankara sanshin may imitate sound of original instrument in very convincible way.

Type カンカラ三線 in google or YT, there is a lot of tutorials showing how to make one.

  • @Max0Inq Ahhh thanks for the advice!!! It's really appreciated!! I ordered one, but now I want to make one!

  • Lol Badass

  • beast

  • I love how it manages to become a sort of drum as well as a string instrument. Amazing concept!

  • 6 people don't know what the dislike button is for...

Either way... I wanted to learn playing the shamisen myself, but after seeing several videos, I decided to postpone it... I'm just not enough of a man for it... And I'm dead serious about this...

  • the rythyms in this kind of music are ridiculously different than western music its interesting to listen too

  • awsome!!!

  • Can I become yout student? Impressive for such a short video clip. Will ask my japanese girlfriend to buy me a shamisen when she visits me in two weeks ^^

  • Very lovely :D

  • この曲弾きたいです!

  • I see it now. I can make millions! SHAMISEN HERO.

  • @maxog1 I'd buy it

  • I love how this sounds =D

  • Quite the badass instrument.

  • i agree

  • i agree

  • You know I never write comments or look at them because of the reason that was mentioned on earlier comments. The music is truly amazing. The ideas of the old are dying. If we forget these old ideas we will have forgotten who we are. So I say bravo. That was an awesome demonstration.

  • it seems you can realy rock out on instruments like the shamisen and the biwa, great work.

  • THaT>>> IS >>> AWSOME!!!!!

  • thats an awesome instrument :D

  • what an awesome instrument

    sounds great

    5/5

  • Amazing

  • I never heard of this instrument but I have a video of an Erhu solo. The Erhu is much like this.

  • ehru is nothing like the shamisen :P. You're nuts.

  • Really? Explain. I am always willing to learn more; but they look a lot alike, they have 3 strings and no fingerboard, and the sound is similiar so help me out.

  • they *look* kind of similar but one is a bowed instrument. The two sound absolutely nothing alike so you understand why one might think you nuts.

  • No need to be cruel. Both have a very trebly sound though Erhu in my mind is a bit more vocal-like. Bowing technique and picking is much the same when you consider body movement, merely hand position is different but motion still very much from the wrist. Different sound, but if the man had never heard, it's an understandable mistake.

  • Thank you. It seems people on YT can never have a conversation about anything without resorting to rudeness or name calling of one kind or another. It gets very tiresome.

  • Yep... :/

  • Nice comment, Yesica1993...I've always wagered that the rudeness of many critics here would be toned down if thier opinions had to be delivered face-to-face, instead of in the anonymity of the internet.

  • True, that.

  • ur a jew =D

  • japanese guitar? NICE VID =]

  • its the other way around, banjo is an American version of the shamisen.

  • in all actuality the two instruments developed seperately, neither is a version of the other.

  • Oo!

    Amazing playing.

  • What nonsense! Actually, bad players usually hit as hard as they can to hide the fact that they can't play very well. Tsugaru shamisen is about feeling and delicacy. Striking the skin hard has nothing to do with it.

  • ronindenis, 1000000% agree

  • Absolutely; you can't play by using force. By the way, I know this guy - he's a top notch player with many students, and this is a demonstration to show people how to play yosare bushi rather than a performance of the piece.

  • very nice. Thank you so much for uploading. The song is so powerful. I feel like crying most times I hear the shamisen but it's worth it every time. Did the song used to be longer though? It finished somewhat abruptly.

  • Sugoi means, something like "Awesome"

  • it means cool

  • no it means great.kakkoi means cool

  • "superb"

  • I am so sorry to ask, but what does '

    sugoi' mean? GOMEN NASAI!

  • He's good!

  • Coming out for ps4, Shamisen Hero... XD

  • Hey, after all there is a 'Taiko Master'. It's not that unlikely, just wait and see. :D

  • Congratulations :)

  • SUGOIIIIII!! I love shamisen!!
