  • at 3:27 very strange ....he tried some technique of renaissance genre ? Is this Klimt's work...? Thanks for sharing...great video ! & Adagietto from 5th...of Mahler SO PARALLELED with these masterpieces ! Oh ! & the other one at 0:55 , must be Henri Matisse ?!

  • Klimt's women look provocative and sensual and mysterious without ever for a moment seeming like sex objects. Best painter of women since Botticelli in my opinion; even Gwen John can't rival him. This is because he viewed them with desire rather than lust (the difference is important).

In the context of the music used in this video, does anybody know whether Klimt painted Alma Mahler? Her turn-of-the-century beauty strikes me as ideally suited to his art.

  • @conradin1000 No - he didn't.

  • Ma première rencontre avec Klimt a été au musée du Belvédère à Vienne, et depuis je suis un fan inconditionnel.

Votre montage vidéo-musique m'a donné un grand moment de bonheur.

    Approximate translation :

My first meeting with Klimt was in the museum of the "Belvédère" in Vienna, and since I am an unconditional fan.

Your assembly video-music m' gave a great moment of happiness.

  • Fascinating mixture between painting and music. Your work is excellent... A great smile for you.

  • He is my favorite artist, I'm lucky to find this vid !! Thank you :)

  • A localized approach to Art Nouveau is represented by the artists of the Vienna Session this was initiated April 1897 by Gustav Klimt Josef Hoffmann, Otto Wagner ,Koloman Moser ,...

  • So gorgeous a combination - this is the most lovely creation. Thank you

  • 3:52 = Egon Schiele

  • what is the name of the painting at 3:52

  • Loving Gustav Klimt, he's the best artist ever!!

  • molto bello!

    Giuliano

  • Klimt et Mahler ...sublime fusion !

  • 5***** !

  • Arty video, well done!

  • prachtige video muziek en zeker de portrette van GUSTAV KLIMT

  • nice video...!!!

  • KLIMMMMMMMMMMMMMT!!!

  • adagietto. it's the 4th movement of mahler's 5th symphony

  • I think he was facinated by women, he saw them as an elite and beautiful race and the only way he could express this was by his art.

This video is beutiful. What is the exact name of the music?

  • he loved woman i see equal taste with picasso there :)

  • Except Picasso was more cruel with them.

Picasso has been a little over-rated as a "great artist" of the 20th century. Picasso thought Modigliani was a far better painter than he was.

  • wow...very moving. i love klimt's paintings and his style of art. his artistic style is very unique and solely his own. my fav's are 'the embrace' and 'the kiss'.

  • isn't the one at 00:54 a matisse ?

  • Yes, it is, and the explanation for it is in the comment section. TY 4 your comment.

  • I like gustave Klimt, this video is beautiful!

  • Just wonderful, and thanks for mentioning the music you used. It was super!

  • genial, maravilloso, perfect

  • I just love his work and that video is amazing:)

  • Yes,beautiful....I saw program about him on CBS this morning and ran to you tube to see what was offered. A bonanza...thanks you tube and brendafohio...I may have to get a book on his work. He died in Vienna in 1918, Wow!

  • I think this is an important/one of the most important videos on Utube Maybe would have waited a few years though for the technology to do both these artistic expressions more justice.

But still it is a pairing of image and audio that was quite possibly meant to be.

Thanks for the video though I shall certainly view this again.

ps nice to be the 20,000th viewer it is

  • Mahler's music, so deep, so powerful and moving, together with Klimt's exquisite art... wonderful!

  • Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for putting together one of the all-time greats with a great composition as well. So well done. Cheers!

  • That is perfect. Fantastic art accompanied by fantastic music.

  • WOW Wonderful! Thanx!

Watch also my Video. It's a reportage about Klimt Paintings: "Was kostet ein GUSTAV KLIMT ?" (What is the price of Klimt Paintings?)

  • Wunderschoen !

Fashinating images, superb music: a perfect match. I enjoyed both very much, so much that I put your video in my blog too.

Some time ago I wrote a short article about Klimt, one of my favourite artists.

    Grazie ! Danke !

    I'll come back :-)

    Cristina

  • I am happy you liked it! Danke, thanks. :D

    Peace.

  • Wonderful! for both the choice of the images and the adagietto of the Mahler 5th symphony. Have also a look on the pictural works of the Belgian painter F. Knopff, I'm shure you will love it

  • I'm glad you liked it, Thank you.

I could not find much on the web about Knopff, especially images, can you tell me where I might see a larger collection of his work?

  • Do you know the Artmagick site??

  • Thanks you all for your kind comments about my music. I am Mahler. I knew Klimt. Klimt was a friend of mine. A great artist. He did have this thing with my wife with the life-sized doll of her but...art is eternal, as is love.

  • One piece of music that makes this world a better place by its playing... thank you... klimt's images... sublime.

  • Thank you so much, that has made my sunday afternoon. "Water Snakes" looked amazing in that collection! His work is so intensely beautiful. And you have persuaded me to try and buy a Mahler CD. Wow. Great work, thank you. X x

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it. Mahler is good stuff, I agree! Thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it greatly.

    Peace.

  • Thnx for posting .. and Klimt and Mahler do match well together .. in real life they also had a connection .. you see , the wife of Gustav Mahler .. her name was Alma Mahler .. and she had a few love affairs with Gustav Klimt :) .. beautiful art and music !

  • Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Yup I know about Klimt, he had a reputation as a ladies man for sure.

    Peace.

  • I've only seen a couple of Klimt's works and I have to say they're very good! What category does he belong in? He's obviously not a post-Impressionist. I love how in many of his works that certain parts of the picture look like they've been taken from photographs. The faces in his portraits, for exp., are so life like, it looks like a collage when compared w/ the rest of the work.

  • He is considered alternatively a symbolist and an art nouveau painter. Thanks for watching. Peace.

  • Klimt is my favorite artist. Beautiful presentation.

  • Thanks for taking the time to comment and thanks for watching. Peace.

  • Damn! ~ What a wonderful pairing! Mahler and Klimt... I've only just recently discovered the wonders of Klimt and I''ve had this Mahler in my music library for some time. They work so well together. This is sweeeeeet *.: so very sensuous!

  • Thanks for watching. :)

  • Wundere Welt, herrliche Kunst. im tiefsten Herzen geborgen.. Ewiger Held, o saubere Mond, im fernen Sein, ohne Sorgen..

  • Oh dear! I knew someone was going to comment someday in a language I do not recognize. I do not want to insult anyone! Is it German or Dutch? Finnish? Translation please? Anyone?

  • Oh duh I should have looked first. You are from Austria and I think Austrians speak German, do they not?? Please forgive me my ignorance and educate me, someone, on this subject!

  • Oh World of wonders, of devine Art, enriched so deep on our hearts.. Eternal Hero, you purely Moon! Remaining in a distant mystery, in holy happiness.. (free translated from my own german words). I was so impressed with Mahler ..and our Klimt.. that I couldn't stop writing of this little tribute. Greetings

PS and it is Karajan with the Berliner !!

  • However it is not plagiarism. As I am not claiming it to be my own. :| It is a celebration, a tribute.

  • Do you have anything original to say? This is nothing more than pleasurism!

  • Yes, it is pleasurism.

  • haha. made me giggle.

  • lol my name is Gustav too cool

  • Ah,fun project.btw, the book is short and good, the movie probably too long and slow and the character/actor in it was interesting too, there's a book out about the Tadzio/actor.

  • What's that Matisse doing in between that?!LOLNice one tho.

  • TYVM! :)~ See comment section :D

  • Hugely sexy. My favourite favourite.

  • Glad you like it :)

  • My compliments! It is really a wonderful compilation! Honestly: I'm deeply touched. Did you know that Luchino Visconti used the very same Mahler symphony in his film "Death in Venice" (after a novel by Thomas Mann), where the main character (Gustav von Aschenbach) dies in the end? These pictures by Klimt remind me of this video.

  • Thank you, and no I did not know that. Thanks for telling me, I love to learn new things.

  • Wonderful video relax me and make me feel inside the work of this great Artist...in fact is my favorite artist like Egon Schiele too...thanks for bring this space...Carlos (sorry for my english jejeje)

  • Thank you Carlos, and your English is fine :)

  • Oh, I came here for Mahler first, and discovered all this wonderful art, and all kinds of music too, what a goldmine to explore! I love it! Thank you for doing this!

  • My grandmother owns a few klimts.

  • I keep coming back to this one. I've watched it three times in one evening and this wasn't my second or even third visit. The Mahler adds so much to the experience. The sketch of the naked couple, she with a vastly pregnant belly -- and knowing that whole society was destined to go down into darkness is so poignant. One shouldn't cry into a laptop, but when you juxtapose image and sound so elegantly, what else can I do?

  • what a wonderful homage to klimt...my all-time favorite artist....im such an admirer and fan...you've done a lovely job pairing these two great Austrians together....Klimt's work and Mahler's music...wonderful....great job!!!!

  • Thank you very much for your compliment and your comment.

  • great, Brenda, great!

  • Thank you very much!

  • You've done your homework here, You've made wonderful films/montages of artists' bodies of work, and placed them, not only to fitting musical accompaniment, but also music by their contemporaries. Very well done!

  • Hey Thanks!!! I try very hard to find the music for these, the hardest one to place was the Tahitian choir for the Gauguin.

  • Thank you for noticing the music choices and thank you for your compliment!

  • Gracias por esta belleza

  • Gustav Klimt - Gustav Mahler: Los más grandes!

  • very romantic, good work

  • Thanx Babe!

  • just beautiful! thanks!

  • Perfect combination of music and art. Spotted the little joke too !Thanks

  • A mes téléspectateurs : me pardonner!? C'était une chose sournoise à faire, mais il a montré me qui a su leur Klimt et qui n'a pas fait. Le Matisse est à 00:58.

  • ¡BUENO he sido busted! ¿A mis espectadores: me perdona!? Era una cosa engañosa para hacer, pero me mostró que supo su Klimt y que no. El Matisse está en 00:58.

  • OK I've been busted! I put a Matisse in this video, as a test of my fellow art students from college. It showed me who was and who was not paying attention in class. Out of 23 students not one recognized the imposter! It took someone who teaches to notice it. DavidCoffin, was the only person to call me on that Matisse! To my viewers: forgive me!? It was a sneaky thing to do, but it showed me who knew their Klimt and who did not. The Matisse is at 00:58.

  • Thank you for this video :)

  • You are very welcome!

  • From DavidCoffin: Long-time Klimpt fan, too... I'll never forget the shock of seeing his stuff for the first time, as an art major in college in the 60's: Who IS this guy? And why have I never seen him before?! Seems he wasn't even on the radar up til around then, what with AbEx and other modernisms... Strange. Your vid was a very evocative interlude, perfect music, well done. (Thank You David.) ( :

  • muy bueno

  • Do you like Art Nouveau, Dali, Magritte, Surrealism or Pre-Raphaelite? These are among my favourites. Klimmt very good too, I believe he was influenced by and influenced the Glasgow Guys, when they came to his Vienna exhibition. I always liked "The Kiss"

  • I adore the post-impressionists and the fauvists the most but surrealism is also in my top five. Art deco and art nouveau are close favorites too. I am in college getting a degree in art administration so I am keen to learn all I can about art. Being a painter I hold a special place in my heart for painters. Some sculptors seem to paint with stone, like Bernini and Michelangelo and I loooove their work. Klimt was a hopeless romantic just like me, that is what drew me to him.

  • Klimt is my favorite artist, and Turner is a close second. Klimt's works are so amazing because he combines the lustrous ornamentation with fresh skin. My favorite of his is "Music I."
