at 3:27 very strange ....he tried some technique of renaissance genre ? Is this Klimt's work...? Thanks for sharing...great video ! & Adagietto from 5th...of Mahler SO PARALLELED with these masterpieces ! Oh ! & the other one at 0:55 , must be Henri Matisse ?!
Klimt's women look provocative and sensual and mysterious without ever for a moment seeming like sex objects. Best painter of women since Botticelli in my opinion; even Gwen John can't rival him. This is because he viewed them with desire rather than lust (the difference is important).
In the context of the music used in this video, does anybody know whether Klimt painted Alma Mahler? Her turn-of-the-century beauty strikes me as ideally suited to his art.
A localized approach to Art Nouveau is represented by the artists of the Vienna Session this was initiated April 1897 by Gustav Klimt Josef Hoffmann, Otto Wagner ,Koloman Moser ,...
Things I know about you 1. Your reading my comment 2. Now your saying/thinking thats a stupid fact. 4. You didnt notice that i skipped 3. 5. Your checking it now. 6. Your smiling. 7. wow...very moving. i love klimt's paintings and his style of art. his artistic style is very unique and solely his own. my fav's are 'the embrace' and 'the kiss'.
Yes,beautiful....I saw program about him on CBS this morning and ran to you tube to see what was offered. A bonanza...thanks you tube and brendafohio...I may have to get a book on his work. He died in Vienna in 1918, Wow!
I think this is an important/one of the most important videos on Utube Maybe would have waited a few years though for the technology to do both these artistic expressions more justice.
But still it is a pairing of image and audio that was quite possibly meant to be.
Thanks for the video though I shall certainly view this again.
Wonderful! for both the choice of the images and the adagietto of the Mahler 5th symphony. Have also a look on the pictural works of the Belgian painter F. Knopff, I'm shure you will love it
Thanks you all for your kind comments about my music. I am Mahler. I knew Klimt. Klimt was a friend of mine. A great artist. He did have this thing with my wife with the life-sized doll of her but...art is eternal, as is love.
Thank you so much, that has made my sunday afternoon. "Water Snakes" looked amazing in that collection! His work is so intensely beautiful. And you have persuaded me to try and buy a Mahler CD. Wow. Great work, thank you. X x
Thnx for posting .. and Klimt and Mahler do match well together .. in real life they also had a connection .. you see , the wife of Gustav Mahler .. her name was Alma Mahler .. and she had a few love affairs with Gustav Klimt :) .. beautiful art and music !
I've only seen a couple of Klimt's works and I have to say they're very good! What category does he belong in? He's obviously not a post-Impressionist. I love how in many of his works that certain parts of the picture look like they've been taken from photographs. The faces in his portraits, for exp., are so life like, it looks like a collage when compared w/ the rest of the work.
Damn! ~ What a wonderful pairing! Mahler and Klimt... I've only just recently discovered the wonders of Klimt and I''ve had this Mahler in my music library for some time. They work so well together. This is sweeeeeet *.: so very sensuous!
Oh dear! I knew someone was going to comment someday in a language I do not recognize. I do not want to insult anyone! Is it German or Dutch? Finnish? Translation please? Anyone?
Oh duh I should have looked first. You are from Austria and I think Austrians speak German, do they not?? Please forgive me my ignorance and educate me, someone, on this subject!
Oh World of wonders, of devine Art, enriched so deep on our hearts.. Eternal Hero, you purely Moon! Remaining in a distant mystery, in holy happiness.. (free translated from my own german words). I was so impressed with Mahler ..and our Klimt.. that I couldn't stop writing of this little tribute. Greetings
Ah,fun project.btw, the book is short and good, the movie probably too long and slow and the character/actor in it was interesting too, there's a book out about the Tadzio/actor.
My compliments! It is really a wonderful compilation! Honestly: I'm deeply touched. Did you know that Luchino Visconti used the very same Mahler symphony in his film "Death in Venice" (after a novel by Thomas Mann), where the main character (Gustav von Aschenbach) dies in the end? These pictures by Klimt remind me of this video.
Wonderful video relax me and make me feel inside the work of this great Artist...in fact is my favorite artist like Egon Schiele too...thanks for bring this space...Carlos (sorry for my english jejeje)
Oh, I came here for Mahler first, and discovered all this wonderful art, and all kinds of music too, what a goldmine to explore! I love it! Thank you for doing this!
I keep coming back to this one. I've watched it three times in one evening and this wasn't my second or even third visit. The Mahler adds so much to the experience. The sketch of the naked couple, she with a vastly pregnant belly -- and knowing that whole society was destined to go down into darkness is so poignant. One shouldn't cry into a laptop, but when you juxtapose image and sound so elegantly, what else can I do?
what a wonderful homage to klimt...my all-time favorite artist....im such an admirer and fan...you've done a lovely job pairing these two great Austrians together....Klimt's work and Mahler's music...wonderful....great job!!!!
You've done your homework here, You've made wonderful films/montages of artists' bodies of work, and placed them, not only to fitting musical accompaniment, but also music by their contemporaries. Very well done!
Bien j'ai été cassé ! Je mets un Matisse dans ce vidéo, comme un test de mes collègues étudiants des beaux-arts de l'université. I think he was facinated by women, he saw them as an elite and beautiful race and the only way he could express this was by his art.
This video is beutiful. What is the exact name of the music?

Except Picasso was more cruel with them.
Picasso has been a little over-rated as a "great artist" of the 20th century. Picasso thought Modigliani was a far better painter than he was.
