We probably ran into each other, cleekmaker00, as I did Crested Butte for the last time in '84. Still have the bike I rode then, too. I posted photos to retrobike.co.uk -- just search for drpaddle. There's also a photo there of the bike I rode in these vids from 1980. Glad you appreciated the video.
Howie just participated in the ride, not in the filming. (I'm not even now 100% sure that this was the year I met him, as I went to four or five of these events.) I really don't know who was involved in the filming: just a film crew in a truck accompanying the ride. I expect Murdoch would remember a name if you wanted to ask him. I'm sure you would have no problem finding a mailing address, as he hasn't moved around much lately.
Are you sure Howie Hammerman had something to do with this video? I met him when I was making KLUNKERZ and he never mentioned it. Charlie Kelly never mentioned it, either. Those guys knew I was paying for footage for the film. Odd. These are wonderful pieces of cycling history. Thanks for posting these super cool videos.
@klunkerbill See "Gary Fisher's Long Strange Trip" video on YouTube. It's entertaining. Other folks have found copies of this Crested Butte 1980 video, as well. drpaddle

This is really some great history. Thanks for putting it together. I still have the original EARTH STATION RADIO Klunker. And, the COLORADO PRESS PLATE is still on the handle bars. You did a great job here.. If you need more of 70's Crested Butte era visit the EARTH STATION RADIO videos on YouTube. The Professor
Here's some clarification on the source of this video (both parts 1 and 2). There was a film crew accompanying the ride on a flatbed truck. I don't remember who they were. Following the ride, the film crew provided Murdoch with an informal tape. The film crew also produced a documentary for cable including some or all of the material on the informal tape. Murdoch provided me with a VCR-to-VCR copy of the informal tape, which I sat on for 30 years before posting it to YouTube.
Neil Murdock AKA Richard Banister what a trip !! used to tinker around in his shop as a kid. then i found out about all his skeletons. crazy man !!!!!!!!!!!!!! he was always cool to me.
I don't remember the guy's name, nor am certain about which one he is. Been too long. However, he worked for Industrial Light and Magic. The Marin guys who see this may identify him.
His name is Howie Hammerman. According to IMDB the belch was for E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, but since he worked for the sound effects crew on Star Wars, he would also be Jabba.
Best vid on you tube thanks for posting
