The Nature series has a segment on elephant fostering in Kenya, where the keeper lives with the babies that have been rescued from killers of their parents for their ivory. They stay with them a year, then out from the jungle comes a matriarch elephant who speaks to them in elephant and calls them to her and the go. Every year. We humans are so arrogant we are killing ourselves with it.
Oh I just sent this video to the beautiful people who work with elephants because clearly Karl would care about their work of giving dignity and joy to overworked, retired, sad, traumatized elephants...and I hope they can find him, and bring him forth, because I'm sure he'd care, beautiful soul that he is, I just wish I could find him...
The man who wrote this was and is a genius. I've had this song in my head all day thinking about how angry I am that I, the child of Malcolm-X, JFK-loving hippies in Washington, D.C. in 1965 has been so lied to, fooled. This isn't any Democratic party in the U.S. This isn't a Democracy. It's how much money AIPAC has to buy the votes of our senators. Just today, we voted to keep sending over 3 billion a year to Israel so they can slaughter more Palestinians. Monsters! Ship of Fools, oh yeah. WP!
Karl Wallinger, the dude in the John Lennon glasses, is the one man genius behind this amazing band & album. Sounds like bubble gum music at first listen but open your heart & you will play this music for the rest of your life. So beautiful, melodically & in sentiment. I cry every time I really stop and listen to this album.
heart and soul with the brian kennedy version, please - thats junk - nobody can out-do the world party original, this is a great song - nobody should touch it.

I dunno......somehow when the guy that writes his song, then sings it......it just sounds great to me. I am sure that someone else....who didn't write the song can technically sing it better. For me THIS is the original !!!
such a great sound, even my kids have fallen in love with it! Another upbeat, positive song from a great band. Makes you smile, like so many World Party songs :-) Wish they were still touring.
World Party are one of those bands that should be listened to, occasionally, through some good headphones, to hear the fantastic arrangements in detail. Amazing music!!! DTOX1972NI try and remember that Brian Kennedy couldn't put his heart and soul into this song, if world party hadn't written this song in the first place!!!
I saw this video when it was new on MTV and i fell in love with it directly. Its from the LP called Goodbye jumbo. One of my favourites, still after all these years!!!
Wow! I haven't seen this in 20 FREEKIN' YEARS, Or heard the song anywhere in just as long. How funny that, even so, I still remember EVERY word of the chorus AND the main gtr. riff. Some things never leave you. And it's pretty safe to say that the 'Goodbye Jumbo' album, which spawned this song and another of their hits, "Way Down, Now", was one of the unsung classics of its time.

I am a huge ELO fan and walked into a record store when this album was new. They were playing it and I thought it sounded a bit like ELO. So I bought it....and loved it.
This is such a great song, and Goodbye Jumbo is my favorite World Party album, though when I looked recently, it seemed to be out of print. well worth looking for though if you like this.
i saw this group play on dec. 21 , 1996 at the mean fiddler club in london. i flew over there to check out the britpop scene as it was in it's height at the time. we checked out oasis/supergrass at wembley then after all the americans went back for christmas i found out this group was playing at a small club and we stayed. i wore this old time country western shirt (silk) that i bought in nashville and those brits looked at me like i was from outer space.
Okay, well first of all, I absolutely love this song and it can't possibly be better. They sound like a well put together fusion of the Beach Boys, Beatles, and Bob Dylan! And second of all, Youtube was being stupid in not letting me rate this again when I accidentally clicked a star only giving it one star! Well, I have to do the right thing and rate it without Youtube's jurisdiction and stupid restrictions by manually giving it FIVE STARS!!! * * * * * =D So up yours, Youtube. XD
May be, they had "that silly smile" on their faces because they were happy to make a video for a nice song. Being young men, with a life full of promises and a chance to be pop stars, what should they have thought about? Heidegger? Death coming?...
the keyboardist from the waterboys. this cd features a yound sinead o'connor, among others... other tunes from this were 'thank-you world', 'way down', 'sweet soul dream'....
Awesome tune! I heard this once when I was a child and remembered the lyrics about "put the message in to the box, put the box inside the car, drive the car around the world" I was to young to remember who it was by and asked loads of mates over the years about it and they all laughed at me & said it doesn't exist. But then I googled it and found it here!! HA HA Who's lauging now, eh?! Eh?! EH!!!!!!!
I'm mad at myself. Getting stuck in the daily rat-race and other distractions made me temporarily forget how much I love this tune and how great it is.
Today I had a hard day. I am a community radio host talking about difficult topics, such as deep 911 conspiracy, mercury in vaccines, fluoride toxicity etc. A once friendly board member complained of ''too much conspiracy stuff'' and asked me to scale it back. I played 'Ship of Fools' as an angry reply...
And found this song later and it reassured me so much. The message is important. I will drive it until it's heard.
I love this song so much, ever since I first heard it. It just makes you feel really good for some reason even if you don't listen to the lyrics. They just look like really nice guys too, like a bunch of university students having a jam session.
This song is like an old friend you kind of forget for a while, but you're very happy to suddenly remember and ring up for a nice chat. The whole "Goodbye Jumbo" album just says 1990 for me.
A classic, from circa 89-90. This song rocks like a Stones or a Beatles song, it's just infectious! I've always liked the lyrics to the song, an anthem for anyone that has a passion for what they believe in.
I miss this band and enjoyed them so much 20 years ago. Time to get "Goodbye Jumbo" once again....
This song and Ship Of Fools are two of the the most intelligent songs ever written. They are right up there with some of the Moody Blues best songs, which are many. Peace.
From my heart. Mr Wallinger is as good a song writer as St Mark Heard, Terry Scott Taylor, Randy Stonehill and Larry Norman and Randy Newman. Who? You may say. And rightly so. I think the worlds best kept secrets are also its best song writers. The above writers are by no means famous but many people say they are the greatest. I can not thank Karl enough for his input in my life. Bless him. Bless him. Bless him. I praise God Almighty for World Party and for you who listen. Thank you very much
i saw these guys in boulder co., i think it was 1996? i was sitting on the wall and talking to this guy and i bought him a beer and when i handed it to him i said: "you look like glen frey from the eagles" and he said i am and we watched the concert together.....he loves World Party, as i do also!! Fun day!!
damn...I remember this one! I was a junior in High School 1990 when I first heard this song...And they still sound as passionate...Awesome...I was watching "The Heartbreak Kid" with Ben Stiller and this tune came on and it was a Proustian moment except with sound...and not the smell of madelaines...but just as sweet and memomarable. Thanks for posting!
Good song, just wish World Party had a bit more edge, they were just so damned tasteful. I think they were a band people listened to alone, which is fine, but it's a bit of a solitary party. With a bit more more edge, they could have been shared, with the kids and more people would have got hear their message.
Well Jack, the ability to share outside the box only comes from within. Personally I have never cared who wanted to hear what I played, I always played it anyway.
I bought Bang and Goodbye Jumbo when a was 16, and remember trying to get my mates into them. I was listening to GBV's Bee Thousand as well, which was recorded on a 4-track, and was in someway intended to sound like Beetle's bootlegs. Would have been interesting to hear World Party cut an album of rough garage sounds.
So, let me get this straight.. you gotta put the message in the box, then put that box into the car and then drive around the world? That's fine and all but gas prices are a bit pricey nowadays - so i'm off on my trip I guess...
one of the happiest tunes ever! miss those guys and those times...

I think the worlds best kept secrets are also its best song writers. The above writers are by no means famous but many people say they are the greatest. I can not thank Karl enough for his input in my life. Bless him. Bless him. Bless him. I praise God Almighty for World Party and for you who listen. Thank you very much

damn...I remember this one!

Such a GREAT album. A+++

So, let me get this straight.. you gotta put the message in the box, then put that box into the car and then drive around the world? That's fine and all but gas prices are a bit pricey nowadays - so i'm off on my trip I guess...
