The multi target time to acquire targets is horrible! 30 seconds for 4 target? It's a helicopter. A high volume of accurate and sustained small arms could shoot it down, not to mention four modern tanks equipped with 30mm and beyond MGs, some with the same aiming system design as the helicopter.

But since Eurocopter has yet to provide a combat ready Tiger for GER, i would have prefered the GER gov. to buy Apache instead for our troops in AFG. Tiger takes way too long to get ready for action.

And for the Apache... as I said, it's still one of the best, but it is old. The biggest problem we have with the Tiger is that it's still not done and way overdue.

@101andrewj Because it's much cheaper to upgrade a chopper already used in the Marines (with the training programs, the standardization, the same kind of choppers). That's also basically the same reason why the US government made a go on the F-18G Growler. It's nowhere near as good as the F-35 or the F-22 but it's a good way to slowly adapt and begin to introduce the stealth A/C into the US military.

The funny thing is that the Tiger actually doesn't carry that much less armamanet compared to the Apache. It pretty much only lacks the wingtip hardpoints, which can hold 2 Stingers each on the Apache. Otherwise, it got 4 underwing pylons that can carry a similar air-to-ground loadout or, like the Apache, stocked with air-to-air missiles.

ah, good to be in civilized company. Man, how I enjoy having a nice chat with lovely aussie folk. Bit rough, but good at heart.
As a matter of fact I am German and quite fond of the Tiger, as I am in general of European defence cooperation (although most projects still are a mess because the governments can't get beyond their egoism and distrust).
Problem with the German version however is, that our government, idiots that they are, ordered the wrong specs. No 30mm gun to start with.

It needs a better Area weapons system gun an I think the 30MM with high explosive incendiary cannon rounds doe sthe job.
I find this helicopter lacks in some key areas.
Example overall firepower should have been massive compared to the apache however the older Apache is equal to this an built in the 80’s.

@vsboy25 That's cause the Apache is a heavy attack helicopter, while this one is a rather light one. However Reconnaisance Technology of the Tiger is way better then the Apache Longbow's and it can cover almost double the distance in flight. Everything has its pros and cons.
But since Eurocopter has yet to provide a combat ready Tiger for GER, i would have prefered the GER gov. to buy Apache instead for our troops in AFG. Tiger takes way too long to get ready for action.

@DerTommy86 Germany makes some of the best things in the world, sadly the eurocopter is a fail. It’s not up too standards.
I honestly expected better from German engineering.
The eurocopter lacks state of the art optics and state of the art area saturation fire forgets control mechanisms.
The apache is old but still extremely state of the art even now.
Its area 30MM weapons cannon is extremely effective an its situational awesness features are outstanding.

@vsboy25 and that is simply not true. Where do you get your information from? The German UHT uses the OSIRIS mast-mounted sight, which is definately state of the art, and PARS 3LR and HOT3 Missiles. What do you want more? Classic Anti-Tank Combat is not what's gonna happen on a large scale in the nearest future, anyway.
And for the Apache... as I said, it's still one of the best, but it is old. The biggest problem we have with the Tiger is that it's still not done and way overdue.

The tiger is over budget over priced an over past its delivery date all as a result of poor design an computer failures.
Yes the basic airframe an aerial movement of the helicopter is great its armaments are very sub standard.
Its optics are excellent but it lacks tremendous fire power.
Its computer systems are full of computer ballistics faults.

@101andrewj Because it's much cheaper to upgrade a chopper already used in the Marines (with the training programs, the standardization, the same kind of choppers). That's also basically the same reason why the US government made a go on the F-18G Growler. It's nowhere near as good as the F-35 or the F-22 but it's a good way to slowly adapt and begin to introduce the stealth A/C into the US military.

You seem to be a bit behind the times. Protip: PARS 3 LR has reached full maturity for mass production in 2005. The money has been paid and 680 missiles will be delivered to the Bundeswehr between 2010 and 2014.

tiger is a leightweight attack chopper, the apache is a heavy gunship able to take out large enemies and long combat

The funny thing is that the Tiger actually doesn't carry that much less armamanet compared to the Apache. It pretty much only lacks the wingtip hardpoints, which can hold 2 Stingers each on the Apache. Otherwise, it got 4 underwing pylons that can carry a similar air-to-ground loadout or, like the Apache, stocked with air-to-air missiles.

@jers59 That's not a fair ocmparison. Aside from the fact that it HAS seen some deployment, it hasn't been around for as long as the AH-64. You're only biased because you're racist against Euros, and I've seen you denounce quite a few things Euro only because you think the American verison is betetr because you're American!
You can't compare these two; they're made for slightly different roles.

Although to be honest I prefer the a-129 Mangusta in looks, while they are very similar. Obvs though, the best looking helicopter in the world would be the ka-52/50 or rah-66 :)
