Also, it's funny you should say that Scotland "want independence"; Alex Salmon has had the power to call for a referendum over whether or not to withdraw from the Act of Union for rather a long time. The question is: has he? The answer is: no. The reason for that is because the Scottish spending plans wouldn't be sustainable in the current economic climate without subsidies from England.

If it fails then, that's one of their main ideologies out the window. England need Scotland just as much Scotland need England

Also England wanted to be in a union with Scotland in the first place. @jimmymckooel In actual fact, the result of Labour's stance towards university education led to a generation of people swamped by tuition fees debts, with meaningless degrees that employers didn't want. Many of these people cannot get graduate jobs and, as such, are forced to find mundane work that hardly pay well enough for them to cover their student loans. Many of these people, rather than pursuing academia, would have benefited from a vocational programme more than university.

@SeanieRs It’s up to the individual with the degree to make the most of it.Its a journey that should be available for all.Degrees are not meaningless,if you get a good grade you can take it to the table and least youve improved yourself.The fees in Scotd have been less than Engld, former students can pay back the loan when they are being paid a high enough wage.Education is a far better investment for the state,it gives knowledgeand skills to the many.Instead banker bonuses are given to the few.

@jimmymckooel The concept of it being 'open to all' is entirely different to the Labour model of ENCOURAGING an arbitrary percentage of young people into university education. Just because university is one option, doesn't mean that it is the only option, nor is it necessarily the best option. Labour supported pushing young people into university education, regardless of individual circumstance, all for the sake of their targets; conveniently coinciding with the initial introduction of fees.

They're not putting a gun at your head, if you've been pushed into it against your will, then your not very assertive - It's the structure that matters. I agree it shouldn't be the only option, however, the price shouldn't be so much to exclude those who can't afford it. The pursuit of knowledge and self improvement should not be an option that's only available to the well off. The power should be the to people not the elites.

@jimmymckooel Firstly, there is no reason why someone shouldn't be able to afford to go to university after the fees go up, that would have been able to go when they were only 3,200, due to the way in which the repayment programme has been altered. Secondly, the pursuit of knowledge in the form of a degree should be restricted to those who are most capable. If someone gets CCC in their A levels, there's no point them going to university and getting a 2:2, it's a waste of time and money.

I agree that there should be some minimum requirement to get into uni, however, a lot of people do get better when they are there. Not everyone gets a 2.2, people need to rise to the challenge and thats up to them - when a boxer gets into the ring, its up to him to fight. It should still be an attractive option. I guess we have different opinions.

A minority of people will be learning about the social sciences and natural sciences at a higher level in England. That's one less opportunity for these aimless, angry, youths who have no future. Not all people living in poverty commit these acts, it's a factor though.
